DPRTV: Five Best Handling Digital Cameras

Any list of the best handling cameras would be incomplete without a Fujifilm camera and DPRTV decided to include the Fujifilm X100V in its top 5 list.

  1. Canon R3 – Felt the most right to Chris
  2. Nikon D750 –  Just feels right
  3. Fujifilm X100V – refined feature-rich pocketable camera
  4. Leica Q2 – looks and feels great with a great tactile layout and simple interface
  5. Pentax K-1 – complicated camera with a simple interface

Not exactly the list I would put together myself, but I have decided to make my own list below, and feel free to share your own in the comments.

  1. Leica M9 – Nothing beats shooting an M and the Leica M9 has the best feel/experience of any digital M
  2. Fujifilm X-T4 – Once your camera is set up you pretty much never need to use a menu again
  3. Leica Q – Great menus and controls providing a very Leica centric experience that should not be missed
  4. Fujifilm X100V – The hybrid viewfinder is one of a kind and it provides a Leica experience that is almost superior to the M and Q
  5. Panasonic GF1 – One of the first digital cameras that excited me because it got away from the bulky form factor of DSLR cameras, which I have never enjoyed using

If you didn’t notice I have a preference for rangefinder design, but I prefer the Fujifilm X-T4 over the X-Pro3 and X-E3 due to its versatility, but I would be equally happy with either camera in place of an X-T4.

Fujifilm X-E3: B&H Photo / Amazon / Adorama

New FUGUFILM 400 Slide Film

Japanese Camera Hunter has been working on a new slide film FUGUFILM 400 for the past 3 years. They were not able to use the original chemical formulation for slide film due to many of the chemicals used to produce it being banned so this was a difficult task to achieve. Japanese Camera Hunter decided to take on slide film because they believe better results are easier to get when digitizing color positive film than digitizing color negative film. There also is a complete lack of high-speed slide films since Fuji cut the Provia 400x line in 2013.

FUGUFILM 400 will be ready when it is ready so in the meantime check out their social media pages on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. It is believed this is the first completely new reversal film emulsion in almost two decades so this is quite a step forward for film fans that want to see film come back. Fuji Fortia was the last new color film positive created and its availability was limited. FUGUFILM 400 was originally scheduled for release in late 2020 to mid-2021, but COVID delayed its launch.

There will be no crowdfunding for Fugu Film because this is a privately funded passion project that likely won’t make a lot of money, but it is being developed for film fans by film fans. You can read more about this completely new emulsion at Japanese Camera Hunter.
