Support for FUJIFILM X Webcam.
This update adds compatibility with the FUJIFILM X Webcam (X Webcam) software, which allows the camera to be used as a high-quality webcam by installing X Webcam on a computer and connecting the camera to a computer via a USB cable.

Apply Film Simulations through X Webcam.
Apply Fujifilm’s one-of-a-kind Film Simulation modes to provide a personal touch to any web meeting or interaction.*1
*1 This upgrade does not provide the capability to make adjustments to camera settings from a tethered computer.

Use the built-in ND filter in the video mode.
The built-in ND filter can now also be used in video mode, while recording video, which will let image makers use wide apertures in bright light or slower shutter speeds.

Set the Position of the Bright Frame to its Shifted Location.
In optical viewfinder mode, the Bright Frame shifts to the actual shooting area when the shutter button is pressed halfway. This update adds an option to set the camera to remember the Bright Frame’s shifted location. Turning the setting to ON means the camera will not need to readjust the frame’s position every time focus is acquired.

Expanded Functionality.
1) When using the digital teleconverter function, you can save still images in RAW + JPEG to the memory card.
2) Ratings to images recorded in the [Jpeg + RAW] mode are applied to both Jpeg and RAW files.
3) SPOT METERING LOCK is added to the functions which can be alocated to the Function buttons.
4) Setting menu of the VIEWFINDER SELECTOR is changed in Setup Menus>BUTTON/DIAL SETTING>LOCK>FUNCTION SELECTION.
5) The phenomenon is fixed that in a multiple-flash shooting where the EF-X500 is used as a commander, flashes in some groups sometimes don’t fire correctly. Also in case the EF-X500 is used as a commander and the EF-60 as a remote flash, upgrade the camera firmware to the latest version.

(2) “∞” (infinite) is added to the options of the number of shots for “Automated Shooting” and “INTERVAL TIMER SHOOTING” to continue the shooting until you stop it.
(3) You can move displayed area of enlarged or shrunk preview of live view by a trackpad.

Compatibility with macOS11 Big Sur (universal 2compatible) is added.

Federal Court Holds National Parks Service Film Permitting Rule Unconstitutional

The NPPA has helped to strike down some permitting requirements in national parks for videographers that they hope to extend to photographers. I republished their press release below about the case (which you also find here), but as with anything legal, you should consult a lawyer before relying on statements even though this is a recognized professional organization.

I remember the first time I took photos in a national park I was concerned about the various permitting requirements and I also seriously doubted that the requirements were legally enforceable, so it looks like I might have been right. Hopefully, the NPPA can take this further in the future. You can read the full case here and the press release below.

NPPA is celebrating a victory for videographers after a federal judge struck down a portion of the Department of Interior film permit requirements on Friday. The judge ruled that the “commercial filming” permit requirements violate the First Amendment and enjoined their enforcement. The National Press Photographers Association, as a part of its partnership with  the First Look Media Works’ Press Freedom Defense Fund, drafted and filed an amicus brief in the case, which was joined by nine other organizations. The ruling overturns commercial film permit requirements in the National Park Service, the Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

MC Rubinar 10/1000 Macro, MC Rubinar 8/500 Macro, MC Rubinar 5.6/500 Macro, and MC Rubinar 4.5/300 Macro

Mirror lenses are great if you want a compact, affordable, lightweight telephoto lens, but most of them are t mount (telescope), but the MC Rubinar 1000mm f/10 Macro, MC Rubinar 500mm f/8 Macro, MC Rubinar 500mm f/5.6 Macro, and MC Rubinar 300mm f/4.5 Macro are M42 mount. They also have donut bokeh that can be busy. I was into mirror lenses for a while and wrote a review about an affordable one here that is extremely compact and it comes with an X mount. The 1000mm should be about $800 based on shvabe.

The range includes lenses with focal lengths of 300, 500 and 1000 mm, which are suitable for creative and astronomical photography. The developers of Shvabe Holding have updated the design and improved technical characteristics.
MC Rubinar 10/1000 Macro, MC Rubinar 8/500 Macro, MC Rubinar 5.6 / 500 Macro and MC Rubinar 4.5 / 300 Macro went on sale. The new versions of these devices received a redesigned hood, improved matte inner surfaces and anti-reflective coating – which is especially important for digital photography.

The metal body is not made from a pipe, but is milled from a workpiece. This solution provided a higher manufacturing accuracy ad stability of the optical circuit during operation. At the Shvabe Lytkarinsky Optical Glass Plant (LZOS), which developed the products, they note: at the moment, Rubinar is the only serial mirrored lens in Russia with such characteristics.

“In the new look, lenses have become more modern and acquired a number of advantages. So, creative people will love the ring bokeh and macro mode. At the same time, our specialists have retained the M42 mounting thread for greater unification with all existing bayonets through simple and inexpensive adapters. At present, the first batch has been manufactured, ”said Alexander Ignatov, General Director of LZOS .

For astrophotography lovers, the LZOS developers offer an additional service for adjusting the lens “MC Rubinar 10/1000 Macro”. This model is suitable for photographing the surface of the moon, stars and planets of the solar system.

Fujifilm Continues The Fight Against COVID-19 With More Vaccine Progress

Promote mass production of candidate drug substances for new coronavirus infection vaccines at two bases in the United States
Started mass production preparations at the UK base
FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies (FDB), a contract development and manufacturing company for biopharmacy (CDMO) * 1 , has joined FUJIFILM Co., Ltd. (President: Kenji Sukeno) , following its base in North Carolina, USA. We are pleased to announce that we have begun manufacturing the drug substance for the new coronavirus infection (COVID-19) vaccine candidate at our base in Texas, USA. Currently, FDB is mass-producing the drug substance of the COVID-19 vaccine candidate at two bases in the United States.

In addition, we are accelerating efforts toward the rapid and stable supply of the COVID-19 vaccine candidate, such as starting mass production preparations for the drug substance of the COVID-19 vaccine candidate at our base in the United Kingdom.

FDB is under development by US biotechnology company Novavax, Inc. , and is one of the COVID-19 vaccine candidates supported by the public-private partnership project “Operation Warp Speed” * 2 launched by the US government. “NVX-” We are entrusted with the manufacture of APIs for “CoV2373”. At the North Carolina base in the United States, mass production of the drug substance of “NVX-CoV2373” started in July 2020 using a 2,000L cell culture tank, and a visit was conducted by former US President Trump at the same time.

With the support of the US government, FDB has completed the installation of nine 2,000L cell culture tanks, which it has been promoting at its base in Texas, USA, and has started the drug substance production of “NVX-CoV2373”. Going forward, we will contribute to the prompt and stable supply of COVID-19 vaccine candidates in the United States through a mass production system at two bases, one in North Carolina in the United States and one in Texas in the United States.

In addition, on February 13, 2021 (UK time), British Prime Minister Boris Johnson visited the UK base, which is preparing for mass production of the drug substance of “NVX-CoV2373”. In the future, FDB will manufacture the drug substance of “NVX-CoV2373” procured by the UK government at the UK base using the production process technology transferred from the North Carolina base in the United States and the 2,000L cell culture tank.

“NVX-CoV2373” is a COVID-19 vaccine candidate that uses a part of the antigen protein created based on the genetic information of the new coronavirus. Novabax began late-stage clinical phase II trials in South Africa in August 2020 and clinical phase III trials in the United Kingdom in September of the same year. In January 2021, we announced that we achieved the primary endpoint and demonstrated efficacy as an interim analysis result of each study. In North America, we are conducting Phase III clinical trials in the United States and Mexico.

FDB has more than 30 years of contract experience, advanced production technology and the latest equipment, and in addition to developing the production process of all kinds of biopharmacy such as hormone preparations, antibody drugs, gene therapeutic drugs, vaccines, etc., from small quantity production to mass production We are entrusted with the manufacture of APIs for COVID-19 vaccine / therapeutic drug candidates by taking advantage of our strength in manufacturing from API manufacturing to formulation / packaging. In the contract of COVID-19 therapeutic drug candidates , mass production of drug substances for antibody drugs of Eli Lilly and Company in the United States , which the COVID-19 treatment promotion project “COVID-19 Therapeutics Accelerator” * 3 supports development and manufacturing It is scheduled to start in April 2021 at the Danish base.

In the future, we will cooperate in the development and manufacture of COVID-19 vaccines and therapeutic agents by utilizing the manufacturing infrastructure of FDB’s bases in Texas, North Carolina, the United Kingdom, and Denmark.

FUJIFILM believes that the fact that the government leaders visited the manufacturing bases in the United Kingdom as well as in the United States shows that the supply of COVID-19 vaccine is a socially important issue. In the future, as development and manufacturing of not only COVID-19 vaccines but also therapeutic agents progress, we will promptly and globally supply high-quality biopharmacy that meets customer needs, prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection, and prevent epidemics.
