Fujifilm X-T3 Will Be Announced at Photokina 2018 and Fujifilm X-H1 Update

So the rumors are flying fast and furious and I don’t normally like to bug my source for more because he’s a busy person, but since someone keeps taking my rumors and muddying the water and people are asking for more here we go. Fujifilm X-T3 to come at Photokina 2018 with a new processor, which is where the X-H1 confusion came from. X-H1 will have the same processor as the X-T2. The max framerate will be 4k 60p for the X-T3, while the X-H1 max frame rate will be 4k 30p and 1080 120p, which is a little disappointing. The Fujifilm X-H1 will use the Fujifilm WP-126s battery which is also disappointing. It sounds like the X-H will only be special in the sense that it offers very special video-centric image quality via simulations. You can read an excerpt of our conversation below.

Battery type ;126 S

Proccesor will be Fujifilm x-processor pro like X-T2,

X-T3 will be announce at 2018 Photokina and it will have new Processor. and İt will have Max Framerate 4K : 60 fps”

( confused X-H1’s and X-T3’s processor)

X-H 1’s Max Framerate 4K :30fps. X-H1’s Max Framerate HD :120fps

While Rumors aren’t our primary purpose there are people inside Fujifilm that like our site and we would like to keep it that way. So I do not want to poke the bear more than I have to. I greatly appreciate any and all tips and I will respect your anonymity, but watch how quickly this rumor gets copied. I am going to get back to editing and hopefully shooting today 🙂

Fujifilm RAW Comparison Crops, Lightroom, Luminar 2018, Iridient X-Transformer, Capture One Pro 11, ON1 2018, Darktable, PHOTOEMUR, and Picktorial

I’m still in the process of deciding, which RAW editor is the best way forward and out of the world of Adobe, but Lightroom CC really surprised me in the above comparison. The above 100% crops were all taken from a Fujifilm X-T1 image I captured a while ago for my Fujinon XF100-400 Review and I always loved the detail in the feathers, which are very delicate and a great way to judge a RAW processor. Personally, I am heavily leaning towards Luminar 2018 for detail, but overall image quality is hard to decide.

I very lightly edited each of these images to taste for this post, but each gave very different colors without me adjusting color, which is interesting. I created the above image at maximum quality so you can pixel peep it, but to see the full images you have to check out my 500px account. I was going to provide multiple crops from these images to show how noise presents itself in shadows and more, but these files are big and Darktable in particular creates JPG files similar in size to RAW files so, for now, you will have to pixel peep around the 500px images below.

Capture One Pro 11

Luminar 2018

Lightroom CC Iridient X-Transformer

Darktable 2.4.0rc0

Photoemur

Picktorial

In a future post, ill try to grab some photos for this kind of comparison with my Fujifilm X-T2 and Fujifilm GFX. Maybe I’ll use a portrait or something that can be cross-compared. All of these RAW editors are very different and some can be a lot more frustrating than others to work with, which is another factor to take into consideration. Once you step outside the Lightroom bubble it can be hard to establish a rhythm, but many of these programs are getting better every day. Some took me seconds to edit, while others made me very frustrated.

If anyone wants to set me up with some additional RAW editors to include in the future I am more than happy to include them. I can only purchase so much and Capture One 11 has been a rather large and disappointing purchase so far. Maybe I will enjoy it with other cameras or maybe it will work better with 24MP X-Trans files. Future tests will tell. Below you can find links to all the tested software and many have very functional trials that you can try yourself.

Let the Fujifilm GFX 50S vs Sony a7RIII Comparison Begin

So this happened… I bought a Sony a7RIII because unlike other sites we use what we write about and even though this is a Fujifilm fan sight I am not a fanboy as you can tell from my Fujifilm GFX 50S review. I shoot a lot of gear and I like owning flagship cameras to compare across brands because memory is only so good and it switching things up. Of course it would be even better if I didn’t have to buy/sell/trade my old gear to stay on top of the latest and greatest, but we will get there someday as the sights continue to grow, but for now ill give you a first look at how they compare size wise and if you have any interest in Sony check out my coverage on SonyAddict, which will be a little different.

One of the best things about working very closely with our sister sites is that I also have access to gear like the Nikon D850 so we are going to get a very good look at how that camera compares to the Fujifilm GFX 50S and Sony a7RIII too and these cameras will remain in our available equipment for a long time to come. You will also find coverage of these cameras on Nikonrumors so check them out if you want a Nikon spin, but I don’t write over there since it’s outside my expertise.

Also, I have to thank B&H Photo for helping to empty out my bank account everytime this site fills it up, because they always have great customer service and are great to work with. If you decide to order a Fujifilm GFX 50S, Sony a7RIII or Nikon D850 at any time use one of our B&H affiliate links to help support the site and I will greatly appreciate the support. They are a great retailer to work with and I haven’t run into a snag with them yet beyond the holiday closures, but everyone deserves a break and B&H has had some great deals this holiday season.

Fake Rumors

It has come to my attention that there is a site out there that will remain nameless (simply because they scrub my name from the record) that continues to misinterpret my Fujifilm X-H1 and GFX Rumors (1, 2). This site has taken a number of my exclusive rumors and run with them, that turned out to be 100% accurate from the same source that gave me the X-H1 and GFX rumors, like the XF80 rumor here. The site openly criticizing my rumors is simply old and trying to hang onto their audience by flinging mud and parting out my rumors to improve their search engine optimization so the original rumors are harder to find so they can post more clickbait, which is something I do not do here because it is wasteful.

I am more than available right here if readers want to talk about what I think my source means by the text that I have made available for you to read. Further, I don’t go back and edit my posts to appear more accurate than I am unlike other sites and when I make a material edit I leave the original text. The above XF80 edit was made a few minutes after I posted it because my source contacted me about the typo in the E-mail. I leave errors on my site unlike others that scrub the record, but I am not going to waste any more time on this topic. There are a variety of reasons that different sites could receive very different leaks, but let’s hope none of them are actually happening.

Fringer EF-FX Smart Adapter Coming in Early 2018

Sounds like Fringer is making some progress with their Fringer EF-FX Smart Adapter for Fujifilm cameras. Some of the smaller adapter manufacturers are really amazing and dedicated to hacking camera systems. Hopefully, Fringer gets it dialed in. Below is an excerpt from Frinderdev:

After almost a month’s research and development, Fringer EF-FX smart adapter prototype’s PDAF performance has been further improved.

Unlike Sony E mount cameras, Fujifilm X mount is quite complex in PDAF support. More than two years ago, when A7r2 introduced phase detection AF (PDAF) for adapted lenses for the first time, I spent a night to find out the key mechanism and in very short time let my Contax N-E adapter become world’s first third party smart adapter supporting PDAF on mirrorless. Now I finally find the way to make X cameras do the same when adapting EF lenses. All the PDAF points on CMOS, not only the central one, but also the others around it, are all working properly, whatever the lens is wide or telezoom or prime and whatever the aperture is set wide open or stopping down.

Although the firmware of smart adapter for GFX50s can be easily modified to support X mount as what some other smart adapter manufacturer probably is doing , it doesn’t support PDAF. Compared with CDAF (contrast detection AF), PDAF is a performance leap. Thus, I developed the new version specifically for X mount. I made a short video to demo the AF-C zone focusing performance when PDAF is enabled. The lens is Sigma 30/1.4 art (for EF mount) and the camera is X-T2. Remember that S30/1.4A has a bad reputation for its slow AF speed.

In addition to that, I also did some real field tests. Using a EFs 55-250/4.0-5.6 IS STM lens and X-T2 camera, I tried continuous shooting on a moving vehicle towards the camera. I set the AF mode to zone and AF-C, continuous shooting mode to CH, and shutter mode to electronic only. The lens was at 250mm/F5.6.

I shot 34 photos in less than 4 seconds with a rough speed of 10 frames per second.

Those shots were used to make the moving gif below and the adapter currently has about an 80% hit rate, which is impressive. Read More »

Savings Sunday Left Over Deals Edition

Black Friday and Cyber Monday came and went, but there are still many deals left over to be had this holiday savings season. We greatly appreciate you supporting the site and using our affiliate links. I hope the deals that I have collected are useful for you this year. While the X savings haven’t been as strong as past years the GFX savings have been pretty fantastic. As readers know Fujifilm is investing a lot of time and resources in the Fujifilm GFX due to its success and I can’t wait to try out the Fujifilm GFX 50R, but I won’t be upgrading until the Fujifilm GFX 100S drops. Beyond the GFX I plan to purchase the Fujifilm X-H1 when it is released next year. We are one of the few sites that actually own and write about the equipment that we use daily and your support helps us continue this practice so thank you.
