Fringer EF-GFX Pro Firmware 1.30 Released

We are glad to anounce that the new firmware (v1.30) is released for Fringer EF-GFX Pro smart adapter. There are many improvements introduced by this version. Please check the release notes for more details.

In additional to ordinary updates like being compatible with more lenses, a new function is added, i.e., in-body vignetting and distortion correction support. The adapter firmware 1.30 has embeded with the correction profile for the following lenses.

Take Sigma40/1.4ART as an example.

Since the lens is designed for 35mm cameras, the vignetting is too strong to be eliminated completely. But it is much improved.

Tamron What’s Next?

Only six months ago Tamron soft announced that they were working on three lenses for X-Mount during an X-Talk. At the time of the announcement, Tamron had two APS-C mirrorless lenses that seemed like no brainers to launch for X-mount the Tamron 11-20mm f/2.8 DI III-A RXD and Tamron 17-70mm f/ 2.8 Di III-A VC RXD. Since that time Tamron has announced the Tamron 17-70mm f/ 2.8 Di III-A VC RXD for X-mount and we expect that the Tamron 11-20mm f/2.8 DI III-A RXD will follow shortly.

The third lens for X-mount is still a mystery, but it is expected to be telephoto. Tamron approached their Sony lineup in a similar way by releasing an attractive lineup of zoom lenses covering 11mm to 180mm with some non-traditional constant aperture zooms covering slightly offset focal ranges from the traditional 10-24mm, 24-70mm, 70-200mm trio of lenses that most photographers own. The approach for X-mount will likely be similar with some kind of 70-200mm f/2.8 coming sometime in the future.

Tamron has really impressed a lot of photographers on E-mount and I am sure they will do the same for X-mount photographers. If Fujifilm’s new 40mp X-Trans sensor required new zoom lenses to fully utilize its resolution then upgrading to Tamron’s lenses might be a good value option in the not too distant future. I personally dumped all my Sony zooms for Tamron zooms due to them being a far better value while providing equal or superior performance and the same could happen with X-mount especially if we have to upgrade our zooms to fully utilize 40MP X-Trans.
