Fujifilm X Summit: Shibuya 2019 – Fujifilm X-Pro3 Details, Firmware updates, Fujinon XF50mm f/1.0, Fujinon XF18-80mm, Fujifest, and More

Te Fujifilm X-Summit was today. I’m a little delayed, but I will cover the stream below.

  • It looks like a very low key affair this year
  • The two photographers talk about there style and history with Fujifilm
  • The Fujifilm XF16-80mm f/4 is selling very well and the factory is trying to keep up with demand
  • People that saw the first Fujifilm XF33mm f/1.0 thought it was too big, but that is necessary for such a specialized lens
  • The first mockup of the Fujifilm XF33mm f/1.0 has been updated and it has lots of front glass to handle aberrations, which has lead to an even larger design
  • 33mm has 15 elements and weighs a little over 1.3kg and Fujifilm added a tripod mount

  • So Fujifilm decided to turn the XF33mm into an XF50mm f/1.0 to make it 35% smaller and under 900g
  • The XF50mm will have richer and smoother bokeh
  • Photographers want the 35mm f/1.4 to be updated
  • The customer reaction on youtube was very good for the XF50mm
  • Above you can see some of the firmware update suggestions they received in Dubai and the highlighted ones are the ones they focused on
  • The three new features they focused on were multishot HDR, Focus bracketing, and Multiple exposures
  • Drone/gimbal support is an additional feature Fujifilm decided to add
  • Photographers ask Fujifilm for Wifi tethering
  • X100 came out about 10 years ago (it’s still a great camera)
  • Fujifilm came out with X100 because the compact camera market was saturated and Fujifilm wanted to make something that was similar to pure photography

  • Pure photography involves
    • Carry & Access – You need to carry the camera and have access to the subjects you want to shoot
    • Find & Frame – You need to find your subject and be able to frame for the best composition so the viewfinder is very important
    • Shoot to Express – Finally, you have to press the shutter to capture the subject
  • Rear screens arent very important for pure photography
  • The point of photography is to capture what has been
  • For carry and access, the camera has to be small, light, discreet, and durable

  • Fujifilm looked to Titanium to make the camera fit the above requirements their first titanium camera was from 20 years ago
  • You don’t really see Titanium cameras anymore because it is hard to work with and it doesn’t release the heat from inside the camera
  • Fujifilm will make a Titanium camera again
  • Fujifilm officially announces the X-Pro3

  • Feels and looks similar to the X-Pro’s from the past
  • The grip feels a little better
  • Fujifilm X-Pro3 will also have an extra-strong coating option to match the titaniums durability that is 10 times tougher than steel for resisting scratches almost on the level with sapphire
  • X-Pro3 will come in 3 colors, Black, DURA Black, and DURA Silver
  • Only camera with a hybrid viewfinder
  • The OVF has been updated to increase clarity, reduce distortion, and increase the angle of view so it is wider
  • Now you can see a lot outside of the frame
  • The EVF now has higher resolution, higher contrast, wider color space, brighter, and a faster frame rate
  • Our leaked screen was 100% accurate
  • The Photographers really like it because the screen can be used for waste level and overhead while staying out of the way so that you can focus on your photography
  • Fujifilm X-T3 can do everything reasonably well, but the X-Pro3 will give you an entirely different experience compared to past X-Pro cameras
  • Fujifilm X-Pro3 is weatherproof

  • The screen on the back shows film stock logos and does not go away when you turn off the camera
  • You can put a lot of images on one digital roll of film 😀

  • Fujifilm is introducing classic negative
  • Classic negative shows a more classic image rendering
  • Fujifilm will keep developing simulations

  • Fujifilm X-Pro3 announcement coming October 23rd

  • Announcing Fujifes and it will be held in 50+ cities across the world
