We received an anonymous tip with the following about the new instax share SP-2

“All new design, 10 second prints vs 16 from the original. Faster WiFi, higher 320 DPI prints. Overall a much better product.”

I am looking forward to purchasing one.

Fujifilm Aperture/Focal Length/Price Laid Out

ad3ba2d440ea4851a09a39e70614f89b

John on the DPReview forms made this useful bubble chart of APS-C prime lenses that he gave us permission to use here. You can see pretty clearly how well Fujifilm compares across the market on the chart. While they have some overlap, Fujifilm tends to offer more attractive apertures at an equivalent price/focal length to its competitors. This chart becomes even more compelling if you take into consideration how deeply Fujifilm discounts their lenses during their annual sales. Sony is starting to catch up, but they haven’t matched the X system yet, especially when their sale comes around.

The Fujifilm X-Pro 2 Might Have The Best APS-C Sensor on The Market

a6300_camera_overall_score
Sony has been producing dominant sensors for some time now, which is why Fujifilm decided to have them manufacture the sensor in the Fujifilm X-Pro 2, but the Sony a6300 currently is the best APS-C sensor on the market by DXO’s measure, which can only be beat by the Nikon D7200 at base ISO. Sadly we will probably never know how much performance Fujifilm squeezed out of their X-Tran Sony sensor, but it has been reported that it has a lot in common with the a6300 sensor so the a6300 DXO test should give us an idea of how the X-Pro 2 compares. Fujifilm and Sony should be very happy that Sony’s new sensor bested the Nikon D500 and only fell slightly behind the Nikon D7200 at base ISO. We have a lot to look forward to with the Fujifilm X-T2 right around the corner.

Portraits of Love

Fujifilm, Sony, Nikon, Panasonic, Ricoh, Canon, Samsung, Sigma, Tamron, EyeFi, and Digital Photo Academy, sponsor the Portraits of Love project along with the USO and PMDA, which is a project that tries to capture a memory for soldiers to take with them when they are deployed. If you have the time/resources/skill it is a worthy cause to donate too. Alpha universe has and interview of a Sony photographer that joined the program, which might interested you if you’re thinking about applying.

The Fujifilm XF100-400mm Can Do Concerts

The Fujinon XF100-400mm F4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR is an incredibly versatile lens. I loved it when I reviewed it and have seen a lot of incredible work done with the lens. Fujifilm Blog just released a great account of using the Fujifilm XF100-400mm for photographing a Bruce Springsteen concert that I couldn’t agree more with. This is a must have lens if you need to shoot something from a distance.
