Cheap M42 Manual Lenses Adapted for X-Mount and Maybe G-Mount

Roy Cruz put together a video discussing the joy of shooting adapted glass on X-mount cameras. Friends of mine swear by the Helios 44-2, which is a great lens for portraiture. You can even buy them with an adapter attached or buy your own adapter. Beyond Helios there are Jupiter lenses available that are great for the price, but there is a lot of old screw mount glass out there, you can see some of the M42 glass available on Amazon here. Roy’s rather nice collection only cost him $360 including adapters, which is quite affordable compared to modern glass.

The Fujifilm X-T2 and X-T1 are both great cameras for adapted glass thanks to their big electronic view finders. I greatly prefer the X-T2 EVF over any other EVF on the market at this time for shooting adapted glass and highly recommend owners try it. You could even try useing a Canon EOS (EF / EF-S) D/SLR Lens or Nikon Nikkor F Mount G-Type D/SLR Lens adapter for the Fujifilm GFX with a Fotodiox Pro M42 Type 2 Screw Mount Lens to Canon EOS or Fotodiox Pro M42 Type 2 Screw Mount SLR Lens to Nikon F Mount if you can’t wait until they have a single mount adapter. This is not the preferable way to adapt glass, but it has been known to work. A few users in our Fujifilm GFX Owners Group are experimenting with adapted glass already and some of the results are great.

Fujifilm GFX 50S Shutter Lag Explored and GFX Goes Down Route 66: Updated

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XaEPMEAxg7o

The shutter lag is quite long in the above video and I have seen some videos that make it look a little better passively, but J I M I Z E L L’s video goes through quite a few settings. He also show burst shooting. Hopefully he follows up with a video showing the Mechanical + Electronic Shutter option.

Photographers Are Choosing The Fujifilm X-T2

Markus & Koala just completed a new project using the Fujifilm X-T2 here and here. Last time Markus Klinko and Koala complete a project they did so with the Fujifilm GFX 50S and shared some photos with us here.

Mike Kobal decided to switch from the Sony a7RII to a pair of Fujifilm X-T2 for his professional work. He has an interesting dual purpose video/photography rig that’s worth checking out in his mini review.

Finding Middle Earth did a lengthy review and comparison between the Fujifilm X-T2 and Nikon D810.

What I liked The Most

  • Build quality
  • Snappy autofocus in good AND bad light
  • Autofocus tracking accuracy after tweaking the settings
  • Sharpness and image quality
  • Clean details and color accuracy at high ISO
  • manual dials
  • EVF

What Needs The Most Improvement

  • Continuous autofocus tracking in default AF-C mode
  • dynamic range shadow recovery
  • Base ISO lower than 200
  • Fujifilm app and Wifi communication reliability
