It looks like Canon is finally taking mirrorless cameras seriously and it will be interesting if they are able to shake up the market some. The Canon R5 is also the first camera to support 8k recording and more should follow this year and next. Canon also released a lot of long slow glass with the new Canon R5, which is an interesting move during a recession/depression.

Fujifilm X Lab Episode 1

Fujifilm gathered together people with a hardware and software background to have a discussion about Fujifilm cameras for their first episode of X Lab. Below is a summary of the translated video:

Talking about software today and autofocus/autoexposure
The people invited to talk have been working on Fujifilm cameras since the X100
The X-Pro1’s top criticism was slow autofocus
Fujifilm is now up to 18 film simulations with the X-T4
Users happy with color but want good AF
It took a lot of experimenting to get the colors just right
Reached professional stability around 2012/2013
The camera is made of firmware
Without firmware, a camera is just a box
Firmware updates should really improve the camera
Fujifilm started off selling image quality
No matter how good the colors AF is needed to capture an image in focus
EVF refresh rate, button placement, camera responsiveness, and other issues also affect AF too this is a complex issue
Fujifilm had to make their cameras responsive enough to not affect autofocus
Fujifilm X-T2 reduced blackout, made the shutter more responsive, and improved interval shooting

If autofocus is good you can get a good image later with editing or you can set your exposure manually
Another limitation is the motor used in the lens because even if the algorithm for focusing is good the motor might limit the camera
It’s very difficult to make a camera

*Decompress the “F-Log_LUT_E_Ver.1.17.zip” file and launch “.cubu” file from a movie editor.

1. Introduction
This document describes the features of the 3D LUTs (3 Dimension Look Up Tables) for F-log which is loaded on FUJIFILM digital cameras. Each of the 3D LUTs is the preset of tone and color reproduction in the primary color correction for a movie production, which can be loaded to a movie editor or editing software.

2. Three Types of the 3D LUT
1)FLog_FGamut_to_ETERNA-BB_BT.709
It is designed to create Film Simulation “ETERNA BLEACH BYPASS” image where the gamut complies with ITU-R BT.709.
2)FLog_FGamut_to_ETERNA_BT.709
It is designed to create Film Simulation “ETERNA” image where the gamut complies with ITU-R BT.709.
3)FLog_FGamut_to_WDR_BT.709
It is designed to create a neutral image where the black level is 0 by 10 bit and where the gamut complies with ITU-R BT.709.
4)FLog_FGamut_to_FLog_BT.709
It is designed to create a neutral image where the black level has an offset as its tone is the same as the F-log data. This gamut also complies with ITU-R BT.709.

3. FAQ
Q. Is the 3D LUT for day light or tungsten light?
A. .Predominately, the 3D LUT is for daylight but is also suitable for tungsten light.
Q. Is a 3D LUT for any Film simulation going to be provided?
A. No, not at the present.

New Fujifilm X-T4 JYJZPB NP-W235 3rd Party Battery + Charger Now Shipping

Third-party Fujifilm NP-W235 batteries have been showing up all over with long shipment delays, but the JYJZPB NP-W235 is currently in stock and you can have it as soon as Monday with Amazon Prime. The double battery package comes with a Fujifilm like doubt battery charger. So far I haven’t felt the need to purchase a second battery, but if I do I will probably get the Wasabi NP-W235 myself since I have had good experiences with them lasting.
