TOKYO, January 27, 2021 — FUJIFILM Corporation (President: Kenji Sukeno) is pleased to announce the launch of the mirrorless digital camera “FUJIFILM X-E4” (X-E4) in late February 2021, the latest model to join the X Series of compact and lightweight digital cameras, known for superior image quality delivered with the company’s proprietary color reproduction technology.

The X-E4 is the most compact and most lightweight of all mirrorless digital cameras equipped with the Series’ fourth-generation image sensor and image processing engine. The beautiful camera body in a classical design carries a fast and accurate autofocus (AF) as fast as 0.02 seconds. It boasts exceptional operability, producing high-quality images with the company’s proprietary color reproduction technology.

The X-E4 is a mirrorless digital camera that caters to a wide range of lifestyles and situations, making it a perfect choice for those who want to carry a camera around anywhere and anytime to enjoy photo shootings of an advanced quality.


The compact X-E4 offers exceptional portability, weighing approximately 364g*, or approximately 448g even when it is mounted with the standard prime lens “FUJINON Lens XF27mm R WR,” also announced today.

The X-E4’s beautifully classical body features the 26.1MP “X-Trans™ CMOS 4”** sensor and the high-speed “X-Processor 4” image processing engine, which are also featured in models including the X Series’ flagship model “FUJIFILM X-T4.” Its fast and accurate AF can attain focus in as fast as 0.02 seconds, ensuring that users capture decisive photo opportunities. The camera can deliver diverse photographic expressions with Fujifilm’s Film Simulation modes, replicating the colors and tones characteristic of the company’s films such as the photographic film “Velvia” and motion picture film “ETERNA.” Users can take advantage of excellent color reproducibility, nurtured for more than 80 years, to enjoy high-quality photography with ease thanks to exceptional operability attributable to features such as the LCD monitor that can be flipped upward to 180 degrees and the Shutter Speed Dial.

Fujifilm will continue to deliver photographic pleasure through the X Series of mirrorless digital cameras such as the X-E4 and an extensive lineup of interchangeable lenses for the Series including the standard prime lens “FUJINON Lens XF27mm R WR” and the ultra telephoto zoom lens “FUJINON Lens XF70-300mmF4-5.6 R LM OIS WR,” also announced today.

1. Product features

(1) Compact and lightweight camera body in a stunning design

  • The rear LCD monitor can be stored flush in the back panel. The result is the most compact (W121.3mm x H72.9mm x D32.7mm) and most lightweight (approximately 364g) model among mirrorless digital cameras equipped with the X Series’ fourth generation image sensor and image processing engine. It can be carried anywhere in a bag for outstanding portability.
  • The top panel is made of magnesium, a highly rigid metal that is difficult to process. The use of a high-precision mold has led to sharp and streamlined edges. Both the front and rear grips are flat to create a beautifully classical design which reminds the traditional film cameras.

(2) Equipped with the latest image sensor and image processing engine

  • The X-E4 is equipped with the back-illuminated 26.1MP “X-Trans™ CMOS 4” sensor with on-sensor phase detection pixels as well as the “X-Processor 4” high-speed image processing engine to enable fast AF as fast as 0.02 seconds. This ensures users capture decisive moments, making it a powerful tool for snapshots.
  • The camera features a highly accurate tracking AF system, capable of accurately tracking a subject that is moving either toward the camera or away from the camera. Its exceptional Face / Eye Detection AF function keeps a moving subject’s face / eyes in focus, allowing users to focus on framing while shooting.
  • The AF system can operate in low light conditions, even in near darkness at -7.0EV***, attaining an accurate focus in poorly-lit indoors.
  • ***The minimum AF luminance of -7.0EV is achieved when the camera is mounted with the FUJINON Lens XF50mmF1.0 R WR.

(3) Fujifilm’s unique Film Simulation for diverse photo expressions

  • The X-E4 offers a total of 18 modes in Fujifilm’s proprietary Film Simulation function, including the vivid and high-contrast “Velvia” and high-contrast yet low-saturation “ETERNA Bleach Bypass,” which simulates the “bleach bypass”*4 darkroom technique to produce a solemn atmosphere. Users can pick and choose different styles to suit a subject or shooting scene as if to remove and insert a different roll of photographic film. Colors and tonal effects can be checked on the LCD monitor or the viewfinder, contributing to shortening time required for post-processing.

(4) Superior operability

  • The X-E4 features a tilting rear LDC monitor, accommodating various shooting styles, from high and low angles. The monitor can be flipped 180 degrees upwards for easy self-portrait.
  • The top panel of the camera body has the Shutter Speed Dial, allowing users to check the shutter speed setting without having to turn the camera on and smoothly move on to the next shots. This camera’s Shutter Speed Dial newly features the Program (P) position, in which the camera automatically chooses the optimum combination of shutter speed and aperture settings to take high-quality images with ease.
  • The functions offered by the rear dial in the current model, FUJIFILM X-E3, are reassigned to the front dial to secure enough space for resting the thumb when holding the camera for comfort and streamlined operation.


(5) Extensive video-recording functions

  • The X-E4 generates 4K video from the amount of data equivalent to 6K to ensure the footage is in high resolution with low noise. It supports recording 4K/30P video at 8-bit 4:2:0 onto an SD card inserted in the camera, and outputting 4K/30P video at 10-bit 4:2:2, containing greater color information, via the HDMI port.
  • The camera is also capable of high-speed Full-HD recording at 240fps, producing up to 10x slow-motion footage of a split-second motion of a fast-moving subject.

2. Optional accessories
(1) Leather case “BLC-XE4” (designed specifically for the X-E4)
This is a genuine leather bottom case that provides protection to the camera body while accentuating its stunning linear design. Its advanced features include the ability to change the battery without having to remove the camera from the case.


(2) Hand grip “MHG-XE4” (designed specifically for the X-E4)
This metal hand grip makes it substantially more comfortable to hold the camera. It helps reduce camera shake when shooting with a large-aperture lens. The camera’s battery or SD card can be replaced without having to remove the hand grip.


(3) Thumb rest “TR-XE4” (designed specifically for the X-E4)
This metal thumb-resting grip is installed at the top part of the camera body, providing a thumb rest for a firm grip. The part where the thumb comes in contact is coated with rubber non-slip strip to control camera shake even when shooting with one hand. Users can rotate camera dials without having to remove the TR-XE4, offering operating comfort and enhanced grip at the same time. It is available in black or silver to match color variations of the X-E4.

TOKYO, January 27, 2021 — FUJIFILM Corporation (President: Kenji Sukeno) is pleased to announce that the “FUJIFILM GFX100S” (GFX100S) will be released in late February 2021 as the latest addition to the GFX Series of mirrorless digital cameras equipped with a large format sensor** about 1.7 times the size of a 35mm full-frame sensor.

The GFX100S is a mirrorless digital camera that uses the world’s highest* 102MP large format sensor and unique color reproduction technology to deliver superior image quality on a whole new level. Its compact and light weight body, weighing just 900g***, packs up to 6.0-stops of five-axis image stabilization mechanism*4 as well as an autofocus (AF) function with a high level of speed and accuracy. It delivers portability that is unprecedented for a digital camera carrying an image sensor bigger than 35mm full-frame sensors, broadening the scope of photographic situations for its users.

The GFX100S is a innovative mirrorless digital camera that offers superior image quality easier than ever before. Rich tonal reproducibility and shallow depth-of-field unique to the large format sensor realizes three-dimensional definitions. It is a perfect choice not only for professional photographers who want to take advantage of the large sensor for added photographic expressions but also photography enthusiasts who wish to enjoy the world of 100MP images while hand-holding the camera.

The GFX100S is a mirrorless digital camera that is equipped with the world’ highest 102MP sensor and the high-speed image processing engine “X-Processor 4” which are used in the GFX Series’ flagship model “FUJIFILM GFX100” (GFX100). Its compact body weighs just 900g, approximately 500g lighter than the the GFX100. The inclusion of up to 6.0-stops of five-axis in-body image stabilization (IBIS) mechanism means users can produce images of ultra-high resolution hand-held. Phase detection pixels are spread across the sensor to enable fast and accurate AF. The ability to attain focus on a subject quickly and accurately increases the camera’s portability. The GFX100S model can cater to a wide range of scenes thanks to its excellent operability, dust and weather resistant, and the capability to operate at temperatures as low as -10℃. Furthermore, the camera enables video production in premium image quality, thanks to its capability to record smooth 4K/30P video in rich tonality.

Fujifilm will continue to offer the joy of photography with the GFX Series including the new GFX100S, the X Series of APS-C sensor cameras, and an extensive lineup of interchangeable lenses.

1. Product features
(1) Superior image quality on a whole new level with the use of a 102MP large format sensor

  • The GFX100S is equipped with the same 102MP large format sensor used in the GFX Series’ flagship model, “GFX100.” It takes the level of image quality to a whole new level by combining the sensor with the high-speed image processing engine “X-Processor 4,” “FUJINON GF lenses” that bring out an astonishing level of image resolution, and the color reproduction technology fostered over many years in the photographic film business. Enlarged images clearly illustrate the camera’s capability to capture every detail in sharpness across the frame.
  • The GFX100S features a back-illuminated image sensor with excellent light-receiving performance. Despite the ultra-high sensor resolution, the camera takes advantage of its wide dynamic range to achieve rich tonality and low noise. Clipping in highlights and shadows is reduced to create images in three-dimensional definitions as seen by the naked eye. The shallow depth-of-field unique to the large format sensor also renders the background out of focus for smooth bokeh.
  • The GFX100S offers the new Film Simulation mode “Nostalgic Neg.”, characterized by high saturation and soft tonality. This mode uses colors and tones reminiscent of the “American New Color” , which emerged in the 1970s to replace monochrome pictures with color photography as the mainstream style for photographic fine arts.


(2) Compact camera body for excellent portability

  • The optimized layout of in-body devices complements the use of IBIS and the introduction of a smaller shutter unit, resulting in a compact camera body weighing approximately 900g and measuring 104mm in height and 87mm in depth.
  • The casing is made of highly rigid magnesium alloy. Added thickness around the base of the lens mount, which is subject to greater load, has made the camera body highly robust. The dust and weather resistant structure that withstands operation at temperatures as low as -10℃ means the camera can be used in the toughest of shooting conditions.
  • The grip has been shaped to make it substantially more comfortable and stable to hold the camera. For example, it reduces hand strains significantly when using a large zoom lens for a comfortable shooting experience.

(3) Newly-developed IBIS mechanism providing a powerful support for hand-held shooting

  • The GFX100S features a newly-developed up to 6.0-stops of five-axis IBIS mechanism. It is connected to the camera’s base board in optimized wiring to make the unit smaller by approximately 20% and lighter by approximately 10% compared to the IBIS unit in the GFX100. It uses high-performance gyro senor and acceleration sensor as well as an updated algorithm for detecting vibrations for better image stabilization than the GFX100. The ability to control camera shake during hand-held shooting for both stills and video brings an enhanced comfort to users.

(4) Fast and high-precision AF capturing a subject quickly and accurately

  • The GFX100S delivers fast and high-precision AF thanks to the high-speed image processing engine “X-Processor 4” and the image sensor that has 3.76 million phase detection pixels across the surface (approx. 100% coverage). The algorithm for movement prediction and face/eye detection has been updated to track a moving subject and people within the frame accurately, ensuring to capture decisive photo moments.
  • The camera attains focus smoothly even in near-darkness conditions down to -5.5EV*5, such as in a dark room or at night outdoors illuminated only with starlight, providing users with accurate AF in low light.

(5) Easy operability for a smooth shooting experience

  • The Mode dial, on the top panel of the camera body, offers six customizable positions C1 – C6. Users can register functions of their choice to each of the positions so that they can be activated swiftly for a smooth photo shoot.
  • There is a selector to instantly switch between the still and movie modes for added convenience in camera operation.
  • The newly-designed Focus Lever has adopted a flat shape so as not to cause physical discomfort even after many hours of use. It responds with enhanced sensitivity when moving the focus point, allowing users to autofocus quickly for the intended area in the frame.
  • A 1.8-inch sub LCD monitor with excellent visibility is featured on the top panel, displaying key EXIF settings such as shutter speed, aperture, ISO sensitivity, as well as the number of frames remaining while shooting stills and the duration of time remaining while recording video. The display can be customized for added convenience.
  • On the rear panel is a 3.2-inch main LCD monitor with approximately 100% coverage. It can tilt in three directions to facilitate high- and low-angle shooting, for which the use of the electronic viewfinder (EVF) is difficult.


(6) 4K/30P video capability enabling high-quality video production

  • The GFX100S can capture smooth 4K/30P video, recording 4K/30P 4:2:0 10-bit video onto an SD card inserted, and supporting the output of 4K/30P 4:2:2 10-bit video via the HDMI port for greater color sampling.
  • In the DCI format (17:9 aspect ratio), commonly used by digital cinema cameras, the camera records video with a sensor area measuring about 49.5mm diagonally*6. The size, bigger than that of large sensors increasingly adopted by high-end cinema cameras*7, results in outstanding high ISO performance, shallow depth-of-field capability and wide tonal reproducibility. This makes it easier than ever before to produce premium-quality video footage with more detailed textures and three-dimensional definitions while even capturing the atmosphere of the scene.
  • The GFX100S supports the highly efficient H.264 and H.265/HEVC compression codecs as well as the “F-Log” mode that reproduces rich tonality and the “Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG)” for recording high dynamic range (HDR) footage with ease. The bit rate can be set up to 400Mbps to produce video as intended.
  • When used with the “NINJA V”*8 by ATOMOS, the GFX100S can record video in the Apple ProRes RAW format. The RAW data, free of any in-camera processing, allows users to apply exposure adjustments and color grading with flexibility for fully-fledged video production.

Hand grip “MHG-GFX S”
Metal hand grip makes it substantially more comfortable to hold the camera, even when it is mounted with a large zoom lens, thereby reducing camera shake. The bottom part may be used as an Arca-Swiss plate, allowing use as a quick shoe mount when using a compatible tripod.

New Firmware Updates For Fujifilm X100V, X-T30, and X-Pro3 Coming In February

FUJIFILM President Kenji Sukeno is proud to announce that Fujifilm will release free firmware updates for FUJIFILM X100V (X100V), FUJIFILM X-T30 (X-T30) and FUJIFILM X-Pro3 (X-Pro3) X Series cameras at the end of February 2021. These updates reflect feedback provided by FUJIFILM X Series users and address requests for new functions and enhanced usability.

Main updated features:
Support for FUJIFILM X Webcam has been added to X100V and X-T30, while X-Pro3 receives a slight usability enhancement to the OVF/EVF.

■ FUJIFILM X100V (Ver.2.00)
1. Support for FUJIFILM X Webcam
This update adds compatibility with the FUJIFILM X Webcam (X Webcam) software, which allows the camera to be used as a high-quality webcam by installing X Webcam on a computer and connecting the camera to a computer via a USB cable.
2. Apply Film Simulations through X Webcam
Apply Fujifilm’s one-of-a-kind Film Simulation modes to provide a personal touch to any web meeting or interaction.*1
＊1 This upgrade does not provide the capability to make adjustments to camera settings from a tethered computer.
3. Use the built-in ND filter in the video mode
The built-in ND filter can now also be used in video mode, while recording video, which will let image makers use wide apertures in bright light or slower shutter speeds.
4.Set the Position of the Bright Frame to its Shifted Location
In optical viewfinder mode, the Bright Frame shifts to the actual shooting area when the shutter button is pressed halfway. This update adds an option to set the camera to remember the Bright Frame’s shifted location. Turning the setting to ON means the camera will not need to readjust the frame’s position every time focus is acquired.
5. Expanded Functionality
When using the digital teleconverter function, you can save still images in RAW + JPEG to the memory card.

■FUJIFILM X-T30 (Ver.1.40)
1. Support for FUJIFILM X Webcam
This update adds compatibility with the FUJIFILM X Webcam (X Webcam) software, which allows the camera to be used as a high-quality webcam by installing X Webcam on a computer and connecting the camera to a computer via a USB cable.
2. Apply Film Simulations through X Webcam
Apply Fujifilm’s one-of-a-kind FIlm Simulation modes to provide a personal touch to any web meeting or interaction.*1

3. Rating Information is Now Saved
Rating information assigned in-camera, is now visible in third-party software to allow for enhanced catalog management.

This update adds an option to set the camera to remember the Bright Frame’s shifted location.   • Comparing the X-E4 having a flat front to Leica and how you can add a thumb grip if you want and Fujifilm is even making one
  • Sony A1 is an impressive camera by all accounts, but not sure why you would want to go there with the GFX100 having better IQ and color
  • If you shoot Canon it is easier to switch to Sony, but if you shoot Nikon it is easier to go to Fujifilm
  • Photographers asking for a digital XPan with a proper range finder etc…

Nokishita just leaked the pricing for Fujifilm’s announcements the XF70-300mm will be $799, XF27mm $399, and GF80mm $2499. Plus the GFX100S will ship at the end of February 2021.

The US price of the new Fujifilm lens will be $ 799 for the XF70-300mm, $ 399 for the XF27mm, and $ 2499 for the GF80mm. The planned domestic release date of GFX100S is the end of February 2021.
