Fujifilm X-H2S, Fujinon XF150-600mm f/5.6-8 R LM OIS WR, and XF18-120mm f/4 LM PZ WR Shipping July 15th

The Fujifilm X-H2S, Fujinon XF150-600mm f/5.6-8 R LM OIS WR, and XF18-120mm f/4 LM PZ WR were supposed to ship on July 7th, but a few days ago Fujifilm mentioned something about July 14th in Japan. This confused some, but tonight I checked to see if the Fujinon XF150-600mm f/5.6-8 R LM OIS WR that I ordered would ship and I noticed the change to July 15th. This is unfortunate because I had plans to use the lens this weekend. Hopefully, the shipment date doesn’t slip further.

Atomos NINJA V/V+ Added Fujifilm X-H2S Support in AtomOS 10.77 and V/V+ Discounted

Atomos NINJA V+: B&H Photo / Amazon / Adorama
Atomos NINJA V: B&H Photo / Amazon / Adorama

Atomos has had the Ninja V/V+ discounted for some time with savings as high as $550 off a bundle. I have the Atomos Ninja V and have considered upgrading to the Ninja V+ since its release, but the Ninja V perfectly suites the Fujifilm X-T4 and GFX100 I currently use so upgrading would be to somewhat future proof my video recording setup.

When combined with the NINJA V/V+, the RAW video output from the Fujifilm X-H2S can be recorded as 12-bit Apple ProRes RAW at frame sizes up to 6.2K and frame rates up to 29.97fps. Up to 6.2Kp30 and 4.8Kp60 12-bit ProRes RAW with NINJA V+ and up to 6.2Kp24 and 4.8Kp30 12-bit ProRes RAW with the NINJA V, this new high performance flagship model in the X Series lineup comes with a new image sensor and processor with the highest video performance in the history of the X Series.

Godox Lux Junior Retro

The Godox Lux Junior Retro looks like it will match Fujifilm’s retro styling quite well especially if you have a silver camera. You can currently get one at B&H Photo.

Compatible with FUJIFILM, Canon, Nikon, Olympus, and Sony cameras, the Lux Junior Retro Camera Flash from Godox is a diminutive 2.9 x 2 x 2.8″ light source with basic features and is small enough to have it regularly mounted on your camera.

Called a “retro” flash, the unit has a simple dial that correlates ISO with apertures, power levels, and shooting distances. For example, if you want to shoot at 5′ with an ISO of 400, the dial lines up f/4 and 1/8 power. The flash has an Auto Mode, too, that defaults to f/2.8 at ISO 100.

Control features include an Optical Mode that offers S1 and S2 settings. In S1 the flash will fire in response to another manual or TTL flash, while in S2 the Retro Flash will respond similarly, but ignore the initial flash from cameras with a pre-flash function. The Junior Retro Camera Flash runs on two separately purchased AAA batteries and comes with a triggering cable and a storage bag.

FujiCast 226 With Marketing Manager Andreas Georghiade is Back With X-H2, X-H2S, X-T5, X-T5S, and X-Pro4 News

The FujiCast is back and you can listen too it below or read our summary of this 1hr+ podcast. Most of the good stuff is in the first half of the podcast if you just want to listen to the camera discussion, but the second half is more general discussions except at the end where they talked about firmware.

Fujifilm X-H2, X-H2S, X-Pro4, and X-T5

  • First Fujicast in person in 878 days
  • Fujifilm PSAM cameras are to make people coming to Fujifilm comfortable
  • Fujifilm X-S10 and X-H2S were designed to draw people into Fujifilm
  • More traditional dial cameras are coming
  • The Fujifilm X-H2 will be the first camera to get the 40MP sensor but there won’t be any surprises from the X-H2S design
  • Fujifilm believes X-H1 failed because it launched at the end of a tech cycle instead of the beginning
  • Fujifilm X-H1 was the most advanced camera physically at the time, but the internals were not
  • Fujifilm used to release new cameras with the same sensor and processor every 6 months, but then people expected the new features from the new cameras to be added to the older cameras
  • Its easier to sell someone a new sensor than new features
  • It’s unlikely they will do any other cameras with both the high-speed 26MP sensor and 40MP sensor due to the confusion it would cause among most consumers and instead, Fujifilm will cherry-pick which to use
  • Fujifilm isn’t working on any flashes that they are aware of and Godox offers a good enough system
  • Fujifilm doesn’t have the resources to do a full flash lineup and others are covering that now
  • Not sure if we will see an X-Pro4 over the next 12 months, but they are going to make one
  • Fujifilm X-Pro has been coming every 4 years so maybe Nov/Dec 2023/2024 based on the launch schedule
  • We will hear about more at the X-Summit in Dec so maybe X-T5, X-E5 or X-Pro4 will be discussed then

Fujifilm X-H2S/X-H2 AF Performance

  • Fujifilm X-H2S AF performance with the stacked sensor won’t perform like the 40MP sensor
The AF speed is based on the Processor, Sensor, and AF algorithm
  • Then Fujifilm X-H2S will be faster to focus due to checking all 3 boxes but the X-H2 will only have two
  • The Fujifilm X-H2 AF will be faster and better than current X cameras though

Firmware Updates

  • When Fujifilm started there was a lot more to get out of the camera processor and sensor because they were learning
  • Firmware updates have decreased because they know how to get more out of the processor and sensor from the start now
  • Fujifilm wants to get away from having people hooked on firmware updates now because they got stuck in a cycle of having to add features
