The world is pretty shut down today, but customers still need support and Fujifilm is there for them. Theo Georghiades, Fujifilm UK Imaging Division General Manager explains in his interview with Camera Jabber. You can get the excerpts below.
- Fujifilm’s divisions have handled COVID-19 in various ways, but the medical division is very busy right now
- Fujifilm started shutting March 15th when the photography shows started getting canceled/postponed this includes their house of photography
- A lot of Fujifilm’s photography side of the business is up close and personal so they took action early
- Camera production slowed in January which caused X100V and X-T4 to have staggered launches, but X-T4 would have come earlier if there was no COVID-19
- Fujifilm is still servicing cameras in a limited way and the are following social distancing
- Fujifilm cleans all cameras when they come in and works use gloves and masks when working on the gear
- Fujifilm doesn’t want you to be without a camera when you can be practicing your hobby
- When the camera is shipped out it is cleaned inside, but you should be mindful of the packaging when you get the camera back because Fujifilm doesn’t have control over the carriers
- All manufactures are facing the same challenges because there are lots of cameras coming and announcements on hold
- It’s hard to sell cameras that people cant try out first
- There has been a big surge in online printing
- Everyone starts their research online and then they usually like to go into stores and touch and try before buying
- Now people have more time than ever to get their prints done or to make photobooks
- The news is just focusing on the negatives atm so many find comfort looking at photos of the good times
- Theo thinks another positive is that people are talking a lot more
- Theo has been walking around taking pictures of the sky with his X-T3 because he has never seen it so clear
