Fujifilm Dominated Map Camera’s November Sales Rankings

Map Camera released its sales rankings for November and the Fujifilm X100VI, X-M5, X-T50, and Fujifilm X-T5 dominated the sales charts taking 4 spots in the top 10. Canon came out first over all, but the Fujifilm X100VI wasn’t far behind it. You can find the rankings and their statements below:

Coming in second is the FUJIFILM X100VI.
As before, new pre-orders are not being accepted.
The number of units in stock has increased since the last time, but when new units arrive and we accept orders, they sell out in an instant. It will likely be
some time before those who see the various content introducing its appeal and feel that they want it can easily purchase it.

The FUJIFILM X-M5, released on November 28th, tied for third place on its first appearance.
The series had been discontinued for a long time since the X-M1 was released in 2013. Many people were surprised by its sudden appearance as the second generation.
It has a small and lightweight body weighing about 355g, making it the lightest of the X-series so far.
The film simulation dial, which was well received on the X-T50, is adopted on the top left shoulder. In addition, it is equipped with a full range of functions such as subject detection AF that can detect moving objects using AI and a 6.2K/30P video recording function, making it a machine that can be adapted to both still image and video shooting.
In particular, it is characterized by various functions that are of interest to those who place importance on video shooting for SNS, such as “Vlog mode” that allows you to intuitively change shooting conditions by touch operation on the LCD, and “9:16 short video mode” that makes it easy to shoot vertical videos. It seems that
reservations are also prominent from people who are conscious of video shooting.
Unfortunately, the first shipment was not enough for everyone who pre-ordered, but it still ranked third in popularity. It will be interesting to see how much FUJIFILM can attract in the future to a different target demographic than the X-T5 and X-T50.

Since August, when the supply of the X-T5 stabilized, the X-T5 has been ranked higher than the later X-T50 for three consecutive months.
I have said that one of the reasons is that there is not much price difference between the two, but this time the rankings have been reversed.
The appearance of the X-M5 may also have had an impact here.
I introduced the X-M5 as a camera that you can casually enjoy Vlog shooting, but it is equipped with an electronic image stabilization mechanism that is only effective when shooting video. In contrast,
the X-T50 is equipped with a 5-axis, maximum 7.0-stop in-body image stabilization function. Those who want to shoot more serious videos may have chosen the X-T50. By the way,
the X-T5, which has a similar in-body image stabilization mechanism, is positioned as a “photo machine,” that is, a camera that places emphasis on still image shooting, as the manufacturer claims to be “returning to the roots.”
If the introduction of the X-M5 has sparked interest in videography that makes full use of film simulation, and if the cameras were selected based on each photographer’s shooting style, then it seems likely that these three models will coexist well and become established in the rankings for a long time to come.

Fujifilm Interview With Theo Georgiades Part 2 – Smartphones, Film, Modern Photographers, GFX, and More

The amateur photographer posted an interview with Theo Georgiades about the state of Fujifilm in the UK. Part one of the interview can be viewed here and part 2 can be read in full here or check out the bullet points below.

  • New photographers and videographers do not have allegiance and there are lots of options
  • Today people want quality straight out of the camera
  • Products like Instax and camera phones have looks baked in which is similar to film simulations
  • 2023 is when film simulations exploded for Fujifilm even though they have been there all along
  • Old and new generations are drawn to film simulation
  • Fujifilm has an advantage with film simulations because they own the films they are simulating
  • People want smaller, lighter, easier-to-use cameras which is helping to inspire a new generation
  • Fujifilm prefers to see camera phones in a positive light because it made everyone into a photographer even though it ate into the traditional market
  • In the past when new models were introduced Fujifilm saw spikes in lens sales, but today they do not because most new photographers are happy with kit lenses
  • Smartphone photographers get used to working with only a few focal lengths so this is probably why new buyers are ok with limitations
  • Lenses like the 70-300mm still sell very well
  • The X-M5 has been selling well because of the shift to video some have made
  • The X100VI has introduced new photographers to Fujifilm
  • Many smartphone users arent used to a viewfinder so they do not miss it when a camera like the X-M5 doesn’t have one
  • Fujifilm is trying to expand its market share by producing more niche cameras like the X-M5
  • Fujifilm still sees growth for X, GFX, and Instax cameras as users look for more than a smartphone can provide
  • Theo Georgiades brings up how he now owns a digital notepad even though he has a Phone and iPad as an example of how people like more specialized devices sometimes.
  • People like the look of the X100VI compared to a pretty bland phone regardless of the model
  • Theo Georgiades has been with Fujifilm for 25 years and would never say Fujifilm wouldn’t make another film camera, especially with its resurgence
  • Fujifilm is currently unsure if the resurgence of film is a long-term fad or a true resurgence of the market
  • Fujifilm always intended to grow the medium format market with GFX and shake up full frame
  • The growth of GFX in film gives Fujifilm another path to grow
  • Fujifilm wont rest on its laurels and will continue to push GFX hard
