First Pictures of The Fujifilm Instax Square SQ10 Camera Posted on Instagram

The first pictures of the upcoming Fujifilm Instax Square SQ10 camera, that were supposedly leaked, are actually published on Instagram (Instax_Square). Instax Square was announced at Photokina last year and a musical teaser surfaced later. We should have more details about availability in Spring of 2017.

Cambo Lens Adapter for Fujifilm GFX 50S

Today Cambo announced a new lens adapter to fit Canon lenses to the Fujifilm GFX50s.

The CA-GFX will be the third Canon lens adapter that Cambo have manufactured and marketed for camera movement. Having successfully adapted Canon lenses to the Cambo ACTUS (ACB-CA) and more recently the WIDE series camera (WRES-CA.) It was a natural transition to manufacture the adapter as it gives many photographers the option of using their existing lenses with the latest mirrorless, large sensor, Fujifilm GFX50s (CA-GFX.)

The CA-GFX adapter fits directly to the bayonet of the GFX camera body and the lens aperture is controlled electronically when dialing in the required f-stop. As there is no direct connection between lens and body, there is no data received; aperture, auto-focus or EXIF, from the lens.

Why make this lens adapter?
The Fujifilm GFX50s sensor measures 33x44mm and Canon lenses such as the 17mm T-SE and 24mm T-SE have very large image circles, they will cover the sensor size and will enable the photographer to apply movement.

Fujifilm Professional Services USA: GFX

The US Fujifilm Professional Services program has surfaced and I am a little disappointed, but ill be joining. The GFX system is simply too big of an investment to not be a member in my opinion. I spoke with a manager in Fujifilm support about the program directly before publication and he informed me that the program won’t really be in full swing until April, but it sounds like Fujifilm is gearing up to provide their GFX customers with first class support. The details are below:

Fujifilm Professional Services (FPS) provides outstanding support for professional photographers. For only $499 per year, qualified GFX system owners can rest assured that they have Fujifilm’s Professional Service on their side. Members in the GFX FPS Program will receive exclusive phone and email support, complimentary Check and Cleans, discounted and expedited services, and express repairs and loaners where applicable.

Annual Membership Fee: $499

You can sign up for the program here.

Fujifilm GFX 50S Potential Long Exposure Issue Follow-Up

Yesterday I included the above crop in my post about a potential issue during long exposures with the Fujifilm GFX50S. There were a few plausible suggestions in the GFX Owners Group relating to a defect, but after more testing, none of them seem to be the problem. There is supposed to be one other similar image on the web from a GFX at this time so maybe it’s a fluke.

The issue didn’t show up at all in the above 16 minute exposure or any of the below 8 minute exposures that I took last night. Read More »

Fujifilm GFX 50S Goes To The Pool and More Testing

I have owned a few “weather resistant” Fujifilm cameras over the years, but the Fujifilm GFX 50S is probably the first that I would feel comfortable shooting in the rain or getting splashed. The camera just feels solid and all the the seals feel and look robust especially between the lens to the camera. The Not Another Bikini Shoot project definitely required a well sealed system because as you can see in the production video above it was a wet time. I’m just waiting for the first water challenge GFX video to show up.

Michael Lidski: TESTING FUJI &emdash;
Lordofthelens (ultimate.photography) did a third party lens test that is worth a look. You can find his gallery here. In a Facebook post he states:

“First of all I would like to apologize for not so artistic images – they were taken for a purely technical purpose. Second – those are not straight OOC but processed to taste. Now for the actual photos: Samyang 8mm fisheye designed for crop, circumcised by me, at F8 – works as a circular; Samyang 12mm fisheye designed for FF, at F8 – produced a bit of vignetting in the corners but quite fixeable as you see; Sigma 8-16mm orthogonal wideangle designed for crop, at 16mm, F8 – same, but here we see mushy corners, not really useable; 200mm F1.8 wide open, no problem here! That’s number 7 & 8 in the gallery, hope you follow? Now Sigma Art 35/1.4 – no problem at F8, a little vignetting in the corners wide open but easily manageable. Number 11 is getting rather extreme, actually 600mm – Sigma 120-300mm at 300mm + 2x Canon extender wide open, looks good. Numbers 12-16 are 85mm 1.2 wide open, tasty ey. Number 17 is crazy – actually 1200mm wide open, 2 stacked 2x extenders on the 120-300 at 300 end, not too bad. Next three are with Sigma Macro 150mm/2.8 wide open, looking good! Number 23 is a Cyclop, looking good. Next three are 3 different custom-made monocle lenses, very nice! And finally the ancient Tessar off a bellows ‘pocket’ camera from the 30-ies at 5.6. All working!!! Issues? No AF, need to pre-set distance and aperture with EOS ones by wire, and maybe the extreme corners with, say 85/1.2 are not quite as sharp as the centre. Worst – extreme wideangle is obviously a problem, maybe the 17mm TS-E should work, but I do not have it to try. Questions welcome! Finally i would like to express huge thanks for letting me play with the camera to Photo & Video International!”

Finally DIY has a few Fujifilm GFX50S vs Canon 5DS R comparison photos to check out. Some might not like the lens choice, but the GFX has been bested the 5DS R and Sony a7RII in every head to head that I have read. You can see their comparison here.
