Shoten (Techart) EF-FG 01 Firmware Update 2.0.1

The Shoten EF-FG01 just received a firmware update to 2.0.1 and you can download it here. The Shorten EF-FG01 is basically just a generic Techart EF-FG01.

Improvements
Corresponds to “35 mm format mode” setting

Initialization of TechartEF-GFX adapter
The firmware v2.0.1 requires initialization at first connection. The camera has to save the parameters of your lens in the first connection. The lens will run a full focusing from closest to infinity automatically after connected. (it normally takes less than 5 seconds).  Please do not disturb or press any buttons during this initialization process. Once the camera has saved the parameters of the lens in the first connection, no further initialization is needed for the same lens. This initialization will repeat itself when a different lens is mounted onto the adapter.

Update Instructions

  1. Prepare a mini-USB cable and connect the adapter to a computer with Windows 8 / 10 operating system
  2. Unzip and open the application.
  3. Left-click the EF-GF01 Adapter firmware
  4. Click the ‘Update’ button
  5. Wait until the power bar goes to complete (It usually takes less than 10 seconds)
  6. Update is finished

Cactus RQ250 TTL Wireless Monolight Kickstarter

Cactus has been supporting Fujifilm cameras for a long time now with their Cactus V6 II which can also be used to trigger their new Cactus RQ250 TTL Wireless Monolight. There are still a lot of early bird specials left for this affordable lighting option and if you already own a Cactus V6 II, you might want to take advantage and pick up a few lights before other Fujifilm sites copy this post later.

Press Release:

Cactus RQ250 is now on Kickstarter

The Cactus RQ250, a palm-sized, 250Ws, Li-ion battery-powered TTL wireless monolight, is now on Kickstarter!
Cactus, the award-winning manufacturer of the world’s first cross-brand wireless trigger, is proud to present its first project on Kickstarter: The RQ250 Li-ion battery-powered TTL wireless monolight.

With the freedom of going wireless using portable flashes, location shooting is much easier than before. “Over the years, Cactus started to think about making a flash with all the essentials of a studio strobe, powerful yet portable enough like a speedlight, a light that can pair up with various kinds of modifiers to shape the light photographers want. A light photographers can use on location, fast and smart,” says Henry Chan, the head of R&D at Cactus.

The Cactus RQ250 is small, versatile, fits all kinds of light modifiers in just a click, and addresses all location shooting needs. Read More »

7artisans Photoelectric 12mm f/2.8 Lens for Fujifilm X-mount

Update: Yes this lens was teased 8 months ago and my post for it is here, but it wasn’t available at that time and I did not receive any additional details to share until now. A certain site is trying desperately to paint a different picture for some reason… Must be running out of ways to infer things from the rumors I leaked first.

7artisans released their Photoelectric 12mm f/2.8 Lens for Fujifilm X-mount. This lens is a very good value and the samples look pretty good too. You can find the Photoelectric 12mm f/2.8 Lens for Fujifilm X-mount at B&H Photo.

Lensbaby Sol 45 f/3.5 Tilt-Shift Lenses Available For Fujifilm X-Mount

Fujifilm is still waiting for an official Fujinon tilt-shift lens, but until then Lensbaby is a good inexpensive option if you’re looking to learn. Lensbaby even released a step by step guide which you can read here about how to do tilt-shift photography.

Create unique-looking photos with the selective-focus SOL 45 f/3.5 Tilt-Shift Lens from Lensbaby for Fuji X-mount cameras. With 8.5° of tilt, this lens lets you easily isolate a subject within the frame and surround it in blur and smooth bokeh. The lens also features a center-locking feature that will lock the lens into place for dead-center focus. Furthering its creative potential are two adjustable bokeh blades that can add slight lines or textures to bokeh. This manual-focus lens also has an all-metal construction and accepts 46mm filters.
