Fujinon GF80mm f/1.7 Review – Exactly What You Expect From Fujifilm GFX

Damian Brown posted his Fujinon GF 80mm f/1.7 review. You can watch the video above or check out the bullet points below:

  • 3rd stops that are solid and audible up to f/22
  • 70cm is the close focus distance
  • weighs 795g
  • Nice lens hood that fits well
  • 12 elements in 9 groups 1 ASPH and 2 Super ED
  • The 35mm equivalent of 63mm in 35mm with an angle of view of 37.7 degrees
  • Great short portrait/tele lens
  • Excellent first-class build quality
  • Fastest AF lens in the GFX system
  • The 110mm f/2 set the bar very high
  • The 80mm f/1.7 is more standard
  • Good compression
  • DC Motors so there is room for AF speed improvement
  • Face and eye detection is only fairly fast and reliable
  • Doesn’t really hunt in low light
  • Testing was done on GFX100S
  • Image quality is excellent with plenty of sharpness where it counts
  • Corner sharpness falls off, but the lens is designed for portraits so that is fine
  • MTF charts back up what he is seeing
  • Lens has some character that works well for portraits
  • f/1.7 is great on the GFX
  • Great faithful colors
  • Chromatic aberration is minimal
  • Flaring is low
  • Great subject separation with lots of pop and appeal
  • Torn between this and the GF110mm but he prefers the 110mm even though the 80mm is more versatile
  • The GFX performs super well with the GF80mm but it can get better via firmware updates in the future

WD My Passport Wireless SSD Savings

I reviewed the WD My Passport Wireless SSD in 2018 and was really impressed with the portable backup solution from WD that also doubles as a decent external SSD. Since then my 1TB model has worked flawlessly and it is great for backing up SD media when I am out in the everglades shooting time-lapses and/or star trails. If you’re interested in picking one up yourself it looks like B&H Photo is closing out the 2TB models with $400 in savings. The price has never been better and with all the great features of the WD My Passport Wireless SSD, they shouldn’t last long. B&H Photo’s holiday savings won’t last long also, but there are still a lot of deals from Fujifilm that you can check out here.

Photons to Photos: Fujifilm X-E4 Results Published

Photons to Photos published its results for the Fujifilm X-E4 and you can manipulate the results here. Fujifilm has designed the X-E4 sensor to perform similarly to the X-S10 with a base ISO of 160 and dual conversion gain at ISO 500. The recently released Fujifilm X-T30II probably has the same design.

TTArtisan 90mm f/1.25 For Fujifilm GFX Announced

TTArtisan has announced its TTArtisan 90mm f/1.25 for GFX and you can get one for yourself from Amazon. This lens covers the GFX shockingly well and I love it on G and X Mount. If you want to use this lens on your G and X mount bodies get the M mount edition w adapter, but if you are just going to shoot it on GFX then get it for G Mount. I also included some of my own samples below or you can check out my Instagram.

Description

  • Compatible With Sony E-Mount, Nikon Z-Mount, Canon R-Mount, Leica L-Mount, Leica M-Mount and  Fuji GFX-Mount cameras.
  • Sets of Achromatic Doublets
Dispersion is a common optical phenomenon, especially in fast lenses. 4 sets of Achromatic Doublets are used in M 90mm f1.25 lens to significantly improves the chromatic aberration and the resolution performance, presenting excellent image quality. The spherical aberration of achromatic doublets is better than singlets.
  • First Choice for Portrait and Close-up Beauty
Its high speed and the unique aesthetics of its depth of focus make this telephoto lens the first choice for portrait photographers. The angle of view is 27 degrees. It highlights the main body while avoiding the suffocating sense of space compression caused by super telephoto lens.
  • Smooth Bokeh with Fast F/1.25 Maximum Aperture
Extremely fast f/1.25 maximum aperture affords notable control over depth of field for selective focus shooting, and also benefits handheld shooting in difficult lighting conditions. The smooth transition between the focus object and the bokeh creates a dreamy picture with an ideal depth of field and fascinating background blur.
  • Lens Hood Reverse Attaching
Handy reversible design allows you to attach the lens hood in reverse for easy storage. With the extended lens end, it can protect the lens from moisture, wind-blown debris and impact.
  • Bring with Tripod Mounting Hole
Due to the size and weight, the 90mm F1.25 manual focus lens fits on a tripod for a more stable shot, so there is a tripod mounting hole at the bottom of the lens.
  • A Clicked Aperture Ring
The aperture ring is stepped with the right amount of resistance and click, marking on full stops from f/1.25 to f/16.
  • Support Macular Linkage
Support the macular focusing of Leica/Voigtlander/Minolta and other paraxial m-port cameras.
