Fujifilm X100VI vs Fujifilm X100V: What Are The Differences

Fujifilm X100VI Silver and Black:

If it’s not broken don’t fix it, or at least that is what Fujifilm believes about the X100 line of cameras. Remarkably little has changed over the years with one of Fujifilm’s most popular cameras, but is it worth the upgrade? I have been watching many videos about the X100VI and while I want one I think I will try to pick up a refurbished X100V if prices come down to something reasonable. Don’t get me wrong the Fujifilm X100VI is a beast of a camera, but I still feel like the X100V is plenty for my needs if prices come down thanks to the X100VI being highly available, but I will have to wait and see. Until then you can see how the cameras differ above.

BTW B&H Photo  just posted some new X100V in stock

Fujifilm X100V In Stock Save $200 Instead of Getting X100VI

I was pretty sure we would never see the day that the Fujifilm X100V was in stock somewhere since Fujifilm timed its discontinuation to coincide with the launch of the X100VI, but B&H Photo has some in stock right now if you would like to save $200 and you do not want IBIS clunking around in your camera when it is turned off.

Introducing FUJIFILM X100VI

Fujifilm X100VI Silver and Black:
B&H Photo / Amazon / Moment / Adorama

Fujifilm launches “FUJIFILM X100VI”
– The latest model in the X100 series, the origin of high-end compact digital cameras
– Equipped with a 40.2-megapixel sensor and the latest processor, and the first in-body image stabilization function in the series

TOKYO, February 20, 2024 – FUJIFILM Corporation (President and CEO, Representative Director: Teiichi Goto) announces the launch of the high-end compact digital camera “FUJIFILM X100VI” (X100VI) from the end of February 2024. The X100VI is the latest model in the X100 series of high-end compact digital cameras, featuring a back-illuminated 40.2 MP sensor and the latest processor. It is the first model in the series to incorporate an in-body image stabilization function in pursuit of even higher image quality and performance.

The first model, the FUJIFILM X100 of the “X100 Series,” was launched in 2011. The “X100 series” has established a unique position, and has been highly acclaimed by users around the world for its unique “Hybrid Viewfinder” that can switch between optical and electronic systems, its design that achieves high-quality appearance and intuitive operability, and its high image quality achieved through unique color reproduction.

The new “X100VI” retains the popular “Hybrid Viewfinder” and excellent design, while adopting the back-illuminated “X-Trans™ CMOS 5 HR”*1 sensor with approximately 40.2 megapixels and the high-speed “X-Processor 5” image processing engine. In addition, it is the first in the X100 series to incorporate a newly developed in-body image stabilization function with a maximum of 6.0 stops*2 while achieving a compact and lightweight body weighing approximately 521g. It can be used for photography in a wide range of situations.

The X100VI combines a thorough attention to detail in its design and operability with outstanding features that deliver exceptional image quality, bringing the joy of camera ownership and the wonder of photography to a wide range of users from professional photographers to photography enthusiasts.

The Fujifilm Group was founded in 1934 with the mission of producing photographic and motion picture film domestically, and celebrates its 90th anniversary on January 20, 2024. To commemorate this anniversary, in addition to the regular model, the Limited Edition X100VI will be released in a limited number of 1,934 units worldwide. This limited edition will be packed in a special box that includes a limited edition strap, soft release button, etc. The camera body is engraved with the corporate brand logo from the company’s founding in 1934 and a unique serial number as proof of the limited edition. Please contact your local Fujifilm sales company to explore the opportunity to purchase.

*2 Compliant with CIPA in pitch / yaw directions, when EVF/LCD is used.

Product Features
(1) High image quality and performance achieved by high-performance sensor and high-speed image processing engine

  • The new sensor is equipped with the back-illuminated “X-Trans™ CMOS 5 HR” sensor with approximately 40.2 megapixels. It can capture more light efficiently thanks to an improved pixel structure, allowing ISO 125, which was the extended sensitivity in the previous model*3, to be used as the normal sensitivity. In addition, the new sensor, together with the 23mm F2.0 lens with high resolution performance, delivers sharp, high-resolution images by fully utilizing the approximately 40.2 million pixels.
  • The “REALA ACE” mode, which combines faithful color reproduction and crisp gradation in the “Film Simulation” mode that enables a wide range of color tones, is included for the first time in the X series of digital cameras, including the X100 series. Users can enjoy a wide variety of color expression by switching between a total of 20 modes according to the subject and scene, just like selecting a photographic film.
  • It is the first camera in the X100 series to be equipped with an subject-detection AF that is built using Deep-Learning AI Technology. It detects animals, birds, cars, motorcycles, bicycles, airplanes, trains, insects, and drones*4. In addition, the camera is equipped with an AF prediction algorithm that is more advanced than that of previous models. It is possible to capture a wide range of subjects, including fast-moving cars and animals.

*3 “FUJIFILM X100V”.
*4 Set the subject detection setting to “Bird” to detect insects, or “Airplane” to detect drones.

(2) Enhanced functions to further expand the shooting range

  • The X100 series is equipped with a newly developed 5-axis in-body image stabilization function with a maximum of 6.0 stops, yet it has a compact and lightweight body weighing only 521g. The X100 series does not compromise on the portability that is a hallmark of the X100 series. This allows comfortable handheld shooting even in dark scenes such as night scenes.
  • The “Advanced Hybrid Viewfinder” allows users to switch freely between the optical viewfinder (OVF) and the electronic viewfinder (EVF), pursuing the “shooting through the viewfinder style” that is the hallmark of the X100 series. The OVF allows the photographer to capture the subject as it is while the EVF allows the photographer to check exposure and other shooting conditions, The EVF is equipped with a high-resolution 3.69 million-dot OLED panel, which enhances the immersive shooting experience.
  • The “Electronic Rangefinder” function allows a small EVF to be displayed on the OVF at the same time, allowing the photographer to capture the subject in the OVF while the small EVF magnifies the in-focus area, thus the possibilities of the viewfinder have been pursued. This function is highly convenient for taking snapshots.
  • For the first time in the X100 series, the X100Ⅵ is capable of 6.2K/30P movie recording. A tracking AF function during movie recording is also provided for high-quality movie recording.
  • Compatible with Frame.io Camera to Cloud service. Video and still image files can be uploaded directly to Frame.io, dramatically speeding up the workflow from shooting to editing.

(3) Sophisticated product design with the ultimate in functional beauty

  • The aluminum used for the top and bottom of the camera body is carefully molded, textured, and colored to create a high quality appearance.
  • The ultra-thin tiltable LCD monitor can be retracted to a completely flat position. It enables shooting from high and low angles in a variety of styles. In addition, excellent touch response and intuitive operability provide a high level of functional beauty.
  • The shape of the grip area has been fine-tuned to improve grip. The buttons on the back of the camera have also been moved to a position that is easier for the right hand to operate, making it more comfortable to shoot while looking through the viewfinder.

(4) A wide variety of accessories to expand photographic enjoyment

  • The camera is weather-resistance when the AR-X100 adapter ring (sold separately) and PRF-49 protect filter (sold separately) are attached. This allows users to shoot safely even in light rain or dusty outdoor environments.
  • The lens hood “LH-X100” (sold separately) is also compatible. In addition to being lightweight and precisely crafted from machined metal, the hood has a slit so that it does not obstruct the field of view when looking through the viewfinder, thus achieving both light-shielding performance and good design.
  • Two types of conversion lenses (sold separately) allow users to change the focal length without changing the optical performance or f-number, further expanding their photographic enjoyment.
    1) Wide conversion lens “WCL-X100 II”
The focal length can be changed by approximately 0.8x to 19mm (equivalent to 28mm in 35mm format), which is useful for landscape photography.
    2) TCL-X100 II tele conversion lens
The focal length is increased by approximately 1.4 times to 33mm (equivalent to 50mm in 35mm format), making it ideal for portrait photography, etc., with its natural perspective.
  • The LC-X100V genuine leather case (sold separately) gives the camera a luxurious appearance. The memory card and battery can be inserted and removed without removing the case.
