Fujifilm X Mount Surprises: Fujifilm X-H2 Stacked Layer BSI X-Trans Sensor, XF23mm f/1.4 With Clutch Discontinued, and More

If you followed the Fujifilm X Summit closely Fujifilm announced the development of the Fujifilm X-H2 without saying it directly with the announcement of the new Stacked Layered BSI X-Trans Sensor coming to Fujifilm cameras. Fujifilm also made it clear that the new XF18 f/1.4, XF33mm f/1.4, and XF23mm f/1.4 are the first lenses designed specifically for the higher megapixel sensor that is coming.

Unfortunately, if you watch the Fujiguys after the show they said the clutch focus Fujifilm XF23mm f/1.4 will be discontinued! I would guess this also means that the Fujinon XF 35mm f/1.4 will also get discontinued. So if you like focus clutch lenses or the classic XF35mm f/1.4 I highly recommend you grab one while you can. I already have and love the XF35mm f/1.4, but I will be picking up a Fujifilm XF23mm f/1.4 soon because I love the focus clutch design and wish they would have included it on all of the new lenses.

In fact, I personally am not going to buy any of the new lenses until I feel that I have to because I prefer the original designs. The XF16mm f/1.4, XF23mm f/1.4, and XF35mm f/1.4 are some of my favorite lenses of all time and these updates sound like a step down in some respects and too clinical to be worth the investment for me. Each is a great lens in its own right and I understand the desire to pursue resolution, but the unique character is what matters most to me on X mount since I have a GFX with GF lenses if I want to be clinically sharp.
