DC.Watch: Fujifilm GFX 50S Interview

DC.Watch has an interesting interview with Mr. Yasunori Hirai of Professional Photo Sales Division Manager of Photo Imaging Division FUJIFILM Imaging Systems Co., Ltd. and Mr. Koshiuchi Koshiuchi of Pros Marketing Team Manager, Sales Support Department, Digital Camera Division. Below are some excerpts:

  • GFX JPEG’s were designed to be final images ready to print from the start.
“Nowadays, with digital cameras, it is mainstream to adjust RAW data after shooting, but this is a completely different flow from film, so even veteran people who could not keep up with this change once and who have been shaken off from professional work It was pretty. In the GFX 50S, the image is completed at the time of pressing the shutter, which is close to the feeling of filming, and because it means that almost no digital post-processing is required, I think that it is easy to handle even for people.”
  • Fujifilm is well aware of their color advantage.
“That’s color making. As we are doing films and printing all the time as a business, there is accumulation of know-how on what kind of color should be finally made. For example, the impression of the color seen by a person, the so-called “memory color” and the actual color are different.Regarding how to fill that gap, there is a past that has cut off from competing film makers, and I think that it is our strength to know that “I know the ultimate goal” that I have studied at that time.”
  • EVF is ideal for professionals because you see what you are getting and now they can keep up.
“Even when digital cameras became mainstream as well as the age of film cameras, this was a problem that could not be realized easily due to the performance problem of EVF. In recent years, however, we decided to mirrorless even in medium format, based on the advent of a high-performance image processing engine and EVF, which enabled us to be practical enough.”
  • Fujifilm is aggressively expanding the GFX lineup which is apparent from our extremely reliable sources. You can also see the GFX performance improvements in the new lens lineup, which is faster than the launch lineup. I have no doubt Fujifilm will continue to greatly expand performance going forward, which is typical Fujifilm and it’s good to hear they want to continue working with software venders to improve support.
“Kiuchi: I want to urgently expand the lens lineup. Since there are still many focal lengths that can not be covered for the required applications, I’d like to first use a resource for developing a telephoto lens and developing a teleconverter.
HIRAI: Regarding the body, I want to correspond as much as possible to the part that can be solved with firmware, including the speed of AF and shooting function. Regarding shooting data, I also want to improve cooperation with software other than genuine.”

Fujifilm GFX 50S: Roundup

The Fujifilm GFX 50S feels at home doing just about any task and with the upcoming lenses we will begin to see more birding and maybe even some sports photography, but man is the GFX amazing in a studio setting. The new Fujinon GF 110mm f2 R LM WR and GF 23mm f4 R LM WR are very snappy lenses and Fujifilm will only continue to improve AF performance. The only real short coming of the GFX at this time for high speed shooting in my opinion is how the EVF slows down when you half press, which forces the photographer to prefocus and just hammer down on the shutter button when trying to catch subjects in motion.

The Fujifilm GFX 50S Lens Selection is About to Get a Lot Bigger

I just received an E-mail from my most reliable source. The same source that broke the GFX price first, the GF110 and GF23 prices first and every GFX leak we have posted on FujiAddict with 100% accuracy, so this is solid news! There is a lot of great glass coming to the Fujifilm GFX soon and I can’t wait to get my hands on all of it!

And I have some other news

Yes, GFX 80mm F/1.4 is coming but also
GFX 180mm F/3.5,
GFX 30 mm F/2.8  or  GFX 35 mm F/2.8
GFX 20-40 mm  F/ 4 or 4.5
GFX 80-180 mm 100-200mm F/ 4 or 4.5 (updated 2/10/17)
GFX Tilt -Shift 30mm or GFX Tilt- Shift 35mm F/???  are coming.

I do not know when to ship, Firstly, May be 80 mm and 180 mm can be announced at the end of 2017 or may be they can also be shipped at the end of 2017

Above you can see exactly what the source had to share with all of our readers and it goes well beyond the Fujifilm roadmap.

So the telephoto prime coming to the GFX will be the Fujinon GF 180mm F/3.5 R LM WR. Beyond that, we can expect to see a Fujinon GF 80mm F/1.4 R LM WR in the near future along with a Fujinon GF 30 or 35mm f/2.8, Fujinon GF 20-40 f/4 or f/4.5, Fujinon GF 80-180mm f/4 or f/4.5 zoom and let’s not forget a Fujinon GF 30 or 35mm tilt shift! My wallet is screaming for mercy!

DPReview: Fujifilm GFX Product Overview

Well, now we know why I started coming across new DPReview videos a few days ago. DPReview put together a new product overview post with a few videos on their page and I just found some of the videos before the post was ready.

It looks like DPReview is going to start producing more GFX content in the near future, which is probably due to the popularity of the system, or they might have received some Fujifilm marketing money since the videos are sponsored by Amazon and Fujifilm. Either way, it’s good to see the GFX get more attention because it’s a great system to shoot and the more it grows the more Fujifilm can justify investing in the format.

Fujifilm GFX 50S: Fujinon GF 23mm f4 R LM WR, Macro and More

https://vimeo.com/223739357

The Fujinon GFX 50S is quickly becoming a well-rounded medium format system with the release of the Fujinon GF 23mm f4 R LM WR and Fujinon GF 110mm f2 R LM WR. Now that we have 18mm, 25mm-50mm, fast 50mm, 85mm and 90mm Macro available, most photographers will be satisfied and there is a telephoto lens on the way with a teleconverter. Fujifilm is also getting all their lighting support taking care of too (1, 2, 3). Fujifilm continues to do a great job addressing any and all shortcomings of their system quickly and logically.
