Profoto Air Remote TTL-F Compatible With Fujifilm X-H1 and Fujifilm X-T20 Support Coming in April Via Firmware Update, Plus Special Offer

The Profoto Air Remote TTL-F already Fully supports the Fujifilm X-H1, as you can see in this review, surprisingly not many reviewers tested the pair even though Fujifilm is marketing the Fuji X-H1 as their professional camera. Profoto Air Remote support will also be added to the Fujifilm X-T20 in April via a firmware update if you are interested in using the combination together, but chances are if you can afford Profoto you are shooting Fujifilm’s Flagship camera lineup. Also, don’t forget that strobes and electronic shutter do not mix.

If you’re in the market for studio strobes Profoto is running a special right now. Buy any B1X or B2 kit and get an OCF Beauty Dish for free.

Fujifilm Explains The New Fuji X-H1 Shutter, IBIS, Heat Sink Design, and More X-H1 Videos

Fujifilm went beyond just adding rigidity to the new Fujifilm X-H1. They also redesigned the cameras thermal footprint in their new article X-H1 Development Story #2 -Frame Pt.2.

“The continuous movie shooting time for X-H1 is 1.5x longer than X-T2. 4K shooting requires high processing power and to avoid the overheating issue, there is the limiter. So how can the X-H1 take longer movies than the X-T2 while the two cameras use the same device?

The frame design is one of the answers. The X-H1 has a larger heat sink to efficiently dissipate the heat generated by the processor to the outside. And by transferring the heat absorbed by the heat sink to the front and back of the camera and by securing more surface area, the heat is released to the outside of the camera in much quicker time.”

The article also touches on the new IBIS system,  but future articles will go into more detail.

The IBIS unit is supported by endoskeletal framework. The framework has a complicated shape, so magnesium, which is excellent in workability, was adopted. The frame is considerably thick. So it itself is a solid support, but steel reinforcements are combined to further increase the strength. Even if the IBIS unit vibrates at a high speed, it will not move a tiny bit.”

Fujifilm has always designed its cameras to suppress shutter shock and they have a tried and tested focal plane shutter that causes very little vibration to begin with, but the implementation of IBIS introduced one more element that could move and blur a photo when the shutter moves so Fujifilm redesigned their shutter to be suspended by springs.

“The shutter unit is suspended with five springs so they act as a shock absorber when the shutter is pressed. With this, vibration is not transmitted to other devices inside the camera.

The tension of each of these five springs is different because the impact on each of the 5 points is different when the shutter is pressed. The effect of this countermeasure is astounding. The impact on the image quality is barely noticeable.

The shock absorber also contributes to quietness of the shutter. You can see the adavantage with the following videos by Robert Falconer and Fabio Lovino.”

This sounds like a very interesting approach for suppressing vibration, but I wonder if this will affect how long these cameras last. Springs tend to lose tension over time and need service. This isn’t a short-term issue to worry about, but in 3-5 years the springs might go out of speck or an extremely violent acceleration could cause them to become damaged. Not something you have to worry about if you upgrade frequently, but I know a few photographer that like to keep cameras a very long time.

I keep going back and forth about whether I want a Fujifilm X-H1 or not, but the more we learn about this camera the more I hope these features end up in the Fujifilm X-T3 later this year. Make sure you check out Robert Falconer’s video below he’s been a great help lately and is a reader of the site. Drop any questions you might have for him below and I am sure he will be more than happy to answer them.

Godox AD600 PRO review, part 2: ready for prime time
Is the Godox Witstro AD600 Pro a substantially better flash than its predecessor, the AD600?

I have now had the Godox AD600 PRO in my hands for 48 hours, since posting my ‘first impressions’ review. What have I discovered since, and is it a substantially better flash than its predecessor, the AD600?

All images by Markus&Koala.

I used the brand-new Pro unit earlier today on a fashion shoot for Berlin-based fashion brand, Hadas Hinkis.

Since in my first round of clinical testing, I had already determined that one PRO has roughly the same output as the twin H1200, when paired with the legendary Broncolor Flooter S, I felt confident to bring only the PRO on set.

As expected, the PRO performed flawlessly during the entire shoot. Read More »

Accurate Fujinon XF 200mm F2 R LM OIS WR Lens Comparison on Fujifilm X-H1

There is a poorly done photoshop of the Fujinon XF 200mm F2 R LM OIS WR floating around so I decided to do one the right way. Fujifilm’s diagram is perfectly square, because it’s computer rendered, while camerasize comparison uses an image that’s almost square. You can match them up almost to the pixel, so Camerasize did a great job, but there are a few pixels you just can’t cover. Simply trying to match the mount isn’t good enough for an accurate size comparison. FujiAddict has a history of accurate printables in advance of product launches going back to the Fujifilm GFX.

Also, this lens is most likely finalized at this point with how much we know about it and all the samples that have been produced so this is likely an accurate comparison to the Canon EF 200mm f/2L IS USM, statements otherwise are inaccurate unless Fujifilm decides to go back to the drawing board on a lens they plan to launch this year, which is unlikely.

Unfortunately, Lens comparison does not have the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 200mm f/2G ED VR II in their system for a quick comparison, but I could very easily create one. Instead, we have to settle for the Nikon AF Micro-NIKKOR 200mm f/4D IF-ED. This comparison very clearly shows a size advantage for mirrorless APS-C cameras like the Fujifilm X-H1 and it is surprising how close in size the Fujinon XF200F2 is to the Fujifilm XF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR. Let’s hope that the Fujifilm X-H1 plus Fujinon XF 200mm maintain a slight weight advantage too even though Fujifilm is teasing that it will weigh over 2kg, maybe it will come in at 2.25-2.4kg instead of the 2.5kg of the huge Canon EF 200mm f/2L IS USM.

Fujifilm X-H1: Built Fujifilm Tough and New Fuji X-H1 Videos

After receiving the previous image I found out that it is part of a new series of blog posts Fujifilm is starting to explain what makes the Fujifilm X-H1 special that is starting with “X-H1 Development Story #1 -Frame Pt.1.”

The frame is 125% thicker for X-H1, meaning that the frame has almost doubled in volume (1.25 x 1.25 x 1.25 = 1.95). The strength of the frame is almost twice as strong. – Sums up the article.

Part one doesn’t explain anything new about the Fuji X-H1 beyond giving us a good look inside the X-H1 body and showing us how Fujifilm used “ribs” to reinforce the mount and camera. The article implies that the mount needed reinforcing for lenses like the upcoming XF200F2, because in the near future we will have lenses that weigh more than 2kg. I wonder if Fujifilm will discourage Photographers from using the Fujinon XF 200mm F2 R LM OIS WR on the Fujifilm X-T2.
