Fujifilm X-Pro3 Titanium Top Plate Fit and Finish Issues Found

The Fujifilm X-Pro3 has suffered through a lot of criticism and it looks like there may be more to come. A few months ago someone mentioned in passing some fit and finish issues they had with the X-Pro3 so I started searching images on google and didn’t come across much of anything and it was an early camera so I figured it was a one-off and dropped my search.

Today there was a thread started in the DPR forums by someone that received not one but two dura silver x-pro3 that had a slight defect in the titanium around the viewfinder, which could potentially become a big problem if it compromised the viewfinder. I then narrowed my search and still did not find much, but the author found some examples, which he linked to which gave me a third camera to look at and I found some additional separation.

DC.Fever‘s X-Pro3 launch post exhibited the problem all along back in October 2019. The first two crops above demonstrate the “separation” around the viewfinder, but the third post shows some separation of the top plate above the lens mount too. Titanium is not an easy metal to work with and the problems seem to only exist with Dura Silver cameras time so maybe Fujifilm has a problem with their Dura Silver manufacturing line or it could also be that the Dura Black coating is a little thicker and better at hiding slight imperfections.

If this problem is truely widespread I am sure we will hear about it from Fujifilm, but the dura X-Pro3 cameras seem to be shipping in low volume so it may take a while. The serial numbers of the cameras the DPR poster received had serial numbers in the 94 range ending in 2000-4000, which might indicate an ongoing issue, but let’s hope it isn’t a widespread problem.

Fujifilm X-Pro3 (Pick Your Trim): B&H Photo / Amazon / Adorama
Fujifilm X-T3: B&H Photo / Amazon / Adorama

L-Plate Overview Really Right Stuff camera body plates are all custom designed for each camera body and precision machined from solid blocks of 6061-T6 aluminum. Fully compatible with any 1.5″ standard dovetail (RRS standard) quick-release system, our plates feature precisely contoured anti-twist flanges for a perfect fit that prevents twisting between the camera and our plate.

Really Right Stuff camera L-plates feature two dovetail mounting surfaces in the shape of an L; one on the bottom of your camera, and one on the left-hand side. This additional mounting option allows you to quickly change between landscape and portrait orientations while minimizing the need to recompose your shot, saving you time and hassle. Also, an L-plate keeps your gear centered directly above the tripod’s apex which helps maintain the best stability possible.

All of our quick-release plates utilize a custom machined ¼”-20 threaded, captive-style mounting screw that threads into the tripod mounting socket of your camera body.

As part of a modular system, this conventional base plate still functions as a traditional camera mounting plate, but also has the added flexibility of accepting a separate dedicated vertical L-component to create a fully modular L-plate with two dovetail mounting surfaces. You can purchase the dedicated vertical L-component as a separate add-on, or as a set package with the base plate.

Product Guarantee: All Really Right Stuff brand products are guaranteed to the original purchaser to be free of defects in materials or workmanship for five (5) years from the date of purchase. Product will be repaired or replaced at our option.

New Fujinon XF50mm f/1 R WR Images

There haven’t been many new details about the Fujinon XF50mm f/1 R WR, but it was talked about briefly at the 2020 X-Summit in London, which you can find here. Fujifilm confirmed the Fujinon XF50mm f/1 R WR would come this year and they had a working sample at the X-Summit that currently works with CDAF and they are working on PDAF. It has a 77mm front filter thread and it will be the world’s fastest production AF lens when it is released. They also told us 3 more lenses would be coming for X mount this year.
