Possible Fujifilm GFX Modular Sensor Found The IMX661LQA-C

The modular Fujifilm GFX design has been a popular design since Fujifilm first showed off the concept at the X Summit, but multiple space-related constraints prevented this camera from becoming a reality. When Fujifilm was asked about the GFX modular design in 2019 after the X Summit they said

  • Fujifilm didn’t put any technical research into how they could make a modular GFX
  • There are currently no plans to make the modular GFX, but maybe they will in the future when they have the technology to make one.
  • It probably got a lot of attention because it was unique and compact.
  • Fujifilm was surprised by the excitement from their customer and photographers about a modular GFX system

Then in 2020 when Fujifilm was asked again about the modular GFX their statement evolved to

  • The modular GFX was through without consideration for current technical limitations and so was the X-Pro style GFX which became the GFX50R

There have been other similar statements since the GFX modular was first teased, but a recently found sensor the IMX661LQA-C could bring the GFX Modular design one step closer to reality with its global shutter that is capable of 15fps.

The sensor is a 3.6″ sensor which is larger than the 3.4″ that is currently used in the GFX50 and GFX100 line, but GFX glass should have a large enough image circle for 3.6″ without a problem. The exclusive use of a global shutter could make the camera extremely adaptable, but it also will save a lot of space inside the body that could make the popular modular concept a reality.

This could be an interesting move by Fujifilm leading to a more Hasselblad like camera design with a more traditional medium format experience and we all know how much Fujifilm thinks about the experience of using a camera. Fujifilm might even be able to include IBIS, but if they did try to make it best the GFX100 in every way than I could easily see it being a 20k body if delivered in the near future, but in a few years maybe they can get the design price down to around where the GFX100 is today and upgrade the GFX100 to a GFX120 or GFX127. This would give us 4 GFX body styles to choose from.

Nauticam NA-GFX100 Underwater Housing For Fujifilm GFX100

The Fujifilm GFX 100 is equipped with a 102MP sensor which is 1.7 times larger than that of a 35mm full-frame sensor. It offers fast and reliable autofocus, in-body image stabilization, and 4K video capability. Built for extreme environments, the GFX 100 is weather resistant and freeze proof to -10ºC.

THE NA-GFX100 UNDERWATER HOUSING
Nauticam has produced housings for a variety of both medium format and mirrorless housings. The NA-GFX100 takes all that experience and produces the most ergonomic housing available for a mirrorless digital medium format camera. Nauticam has continued to offer unencumbered access to the essential controls that underwater photographers need.

The GFX 100 has 15 customizable buttons. The camera’s “Q” menu can also be customized to accommodate most-used menu items. The “Q” menu is easily accessed by the double thumb-lever on the right hand side which also accesses the “AF-ON” button critical for back button focus. The left hand double thumb lever accesses the “PLAY” and “DISP/BACK” functions.

The directional keys on the right hand side engage the joystick to easily change the focus points. The GFX 100 has a total of 3.76 million phase detection auto focus points. Above the directional keys is a rotating lever which allows you to quickly change the focus mode.

FLASH TRIGGERING
Flash triggering is performed via built-in fiber optic bulkheads using the Fujifilm EF-X20 TTL flash which fits into the housing when mounted on the hot-shoe. Flash EV can be controlled via a dial atop the housing and status can be seen through dedicated viewports. The flash can be turned on and off via a lever on the left side of the housing.

PREMIUM PROFESSIONAL OPTICS
The GFX 100 uses a new lineup of dedicated lenses with the moniker GF. The Nauticam N120 Port Systems supports many of those currently available including ultra-wide primes, zooms, and macro lenses.

VIEWFINDERS
The standard optical glass viewfinder is very good and travel friendly, but many photographers prefer the ease of a magnified viewfinder with adjustable diopter. Nauticam produces a “straight” 180º enlarging viewfinder and a 45º angled enlarging viewfinder to enhance the ease of close quarters work often associated with macro shooting. Both viewfinders have high quality optics, and allow bright viewing of the entire image. A patented external dioptric adjustment allows personal adjustment to a sharp-as-a-tack standard underwater and viewfinder changes can be executed in less than 30 seconds without using tools. Exceptional composition and focus accuracy have never been more accessible.

INTEGRATED VACUUM CHECK AND LEAK DETECTION SYSTEM
The Nauticam vacuum check and leak detection system is shipped with NA-GFX50S as standard equipment. Combined with an accessory vacuum valve this monitoring system provides constant updates on the water tight and safe-to-dive status of the housing. A simple color coded LED lighting system lets the user know that the vacuum is solid, or that the housing is losing vacuum. Leak detection is built into the same circuit, so if there is water intrusion, an audible and visual indication will occur.

The Nauticam system is temperature compensated, eliminating false alarms caused by a change in outside temperature, or from a camera heating up on an action packed dive.

Ports
The X-T4 housing utilizes our ‘MINI’ port system designed for mirrorless cameras and fits lenses up to 80mm diameter. A port system specifically designed for smaller lenses allows our housings to be a lot smaller than most as they do not need to cater for a large port diameter.

The front element in our ports is replaceable in less than 30 seconds by simply unscrewing the locking ring and dropping in a replacement acrylic screen we offer for purchase. So no more spending hours buffing scratched ports!

FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies Expands Its Partnership With Novavax To Manufacture COVID-19 Vaccine Candidate At Its Billingham Site

FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies expands its partnership with Novavax to manufacture COVID-19 Vaccine Candidate at its Billingham site
BILLINGHAM, UK, August 17,2020 — FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies, a world leading contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) for biologics, viral vaccines and gene therapies, announce today that its site in Billingham, UK will manufacture antigen component of NVX-CoV2373, Novavax’ COVID-19 vaccine candidate. Billingham plans to begin production of the first batch at beginning of Q1, 2021.

Novavax has signed on August 14 a Heads of Terms (Term Sheet) with the Government of the United Kingdom (UK) for the purchase of 60 million doses of NVX-CoV2373 and a Phase 3 clinical trial to assess the efficacy of the vaccine in the UK population. The Phase 1 data of the Phase ½ clinical trial has already demonstrated to be generally well-tolerated and to elicit robust antibody responses numerically superior to that seen in human convalescent sera.

FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies expands its collaboration with Novavax to its UK site, in addition to its sites in North Carolina and Texas in the U.S., to ensure stable manufacturing supply of Novavax’ COVID-19 vaccine candidate. FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies Billingham site has the capacity to produce up to 180 million doses annually, which further boosts the global supply of NVX-CoV2373 for additional markets. Production at the Billingham site will begin in early 2021.

“To change the course of the pandemic, FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies is excited to expand our partnership with Novavax to manufacture their COVID-19 vaccine candidate at our UK site,” said Paul Found, Chief Operating Officer, FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies, UK site. “We are honoured to support the UK government and Novavax with the shared goal of delivering a safe and effective vaccine to the British people.”

NVX-CoV2373 is a vaccine candidate engineered from the genetic sequence of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19 disease. NVX-CoV2373 was created using Novavax’ recombinant nanoparticle technology to generate antigen derived from the coronavirus spike (S) protein and contains Novavax’ patented saponin-based Matrix-M™ adjuvant to enhance the immune response and stimulate high levels of neutralizing antibodies.

Fringer NF-FX Adapter Engineering Sample Demo

Fringer developed a new NF-FX adapter (adapting Nikon F lens to Fujifilm X camera) for several months. Now the engineering sample is ready. It supports electronic aperture control for D, G and E lenses and auto focus for AF-S and AF-P lenses. Like Fringer EF-FX adapters, PDAF works very well on newer X-Trans cameras like XT3, XT4, etc.

In the demo video, you will see
1. Nikkor AF-S 50/1.8G on XT3. Electronic aperture control and auto focus demo.
2. Nikkor AF-P 18-55/3.5-5.6G VR on XT3. Movie mode AF-C and face/eye tracking demo.
