The Fujiguys Hands-on With The Fujifilm GFX

(This video was posted earlier and removed so I have two very different perspectives mixed in here)

The Fujiguys go hands-on with the Fujifilm GFX and we get a few more details about the new camera from them. There’s lots of one handed holding happening throughout and the camera never looks hard to hold so it’s probably a very reasonable weight. The mount is 6mm deep it helps secure the lens and both the standard and optional viewfinder we reported the other day are pictured.

I haven’t mentioned this before before so I will now GFX

G is the format
F is for film
X is for the X DNA

I’m not sure why Fujifilm keeps drilling this when they present the camera.

The also added a C position on lens and the ISO dial that lets you control them from command dials like a DSLR… Fujifilm is making it very easy for people to switch. There is also a T position on the shutter speed dial that acts similarly.

There will be wifi and tethering. Everything is subject to change, even the EVF size might change. The new battery which is obvious from the photos is mentioned. USB4? PC Sync…EF-X500 works obviously so HSS should be available… Fujifilm very much sounds like they are gunning for full frame DSLRs.

Lenses with leaf shutters built in can be made in the future!

What’s The Difference Between The Fujinon XF 23mm f/2 R WR and X100 23mm?

The Phoblographer asked Fujifilm what is the difference between the Fujinon XF 23mm f/2 R WR and Fujifilm X100 23mm beyond weather sealing?

“The optical designs for these two lenses is completely different, the only things they share in common are 9 aperture blades, focal length, f-stop and both are produced by FUJINON in Japan.

The design brief for these 2 lenses was completely different. The XF23mm f2.0 was designed to deliver outstanding image quality without interfering with the optical finder of the X-Pro2. The X100T lens was designed to make the camera as small as possible, while delivering the highest image quality. 5 of the 8 lens elements of the X100T lens are within the cameras body and are of increasing diameter, this is possible because it is a fixed lens camera with a leaf shutter”

Sounds like a small difference, but whenever you try to miniaturize a lens you sacrifice some image quality.

Fujifilm GFX 50S Standard Viewfinder Included and Canon 6D Size Comparison: Updated

Thanks to Popular Photography we now know that Fujifilm will include a standard viewfinder in the box with the GFX 50S. This mean the adjustable viewfinder we have seen pictures of is an optional one and could hint at other optional viewfinders in the future. They also remind us that Hasselblad said zoom lenses would be very hard to make for mirrorless medium format, but Fujifilm managed to develop a zoom lens for launch, which is very impressive. This is probably the best hands-on video released yet and goes into details about how the camera feels. They say that it weighs a little more than a Hasselblad X1D and it is very well balanced with the 50mm equivalent lens so it could be used for street shooting!

They also give us a look at how it compares to a Canon 6D size wise and it seems to compare well.

Update: The camera is about 800g according to photographyblog, which is 75g more than the Hasselblad

No Plans For Fujifilm Full Frame Reaffirmed

_dsc4547
Camera Jabber interviewed Fujifilm at Photokina and they once again reaffirmed that they have no plans to develop a full frame system. Fujifilm’s stated reason for not wanting to develop a full frame system at this time is that “bringing out a full-frame system would be telling its users that APS-C isn’t good enough, and the company just doesn’t believe that.” You can read the rest of the interview at Camera Jabber.
