String Tripod Hack

I love photography hacks and this is probably the best, since the bathtub product photography hack. Roger Payne came up with an innovative way to stabilize his camera using only a tripod plate and string. You can find additional details about the hack in his Fujfilm Blog, but basically he is using string tension to stabilize the camera. I have heard of this hack before, but I have never seen it explained in detail until now, plus he included a good example of how well it works. Definitely worth a good read if you do not like to carry around a tripod.

10 Reasons to Sell your M240 and buy a FujiFilm X100T

Fuji X100T

Today The Street Shooter wrote about his decision to switch to the Fujifilm X100T from his Leica M240/35mm Summicron kit.

His 10 Reasons for Switching:

  1. His Review of The X100T
  2. Manual Focus Isn’t a Big Deal
  3. The Size of The X100T
  4. Peace of mind
  5. It’s Quite
  6. Built in Flash
  7. Flash Sync at Any Speed
  8. The Hybrid View Finder
  9. The APS-C Look
  10. Fuji Color and X-Tran

You can read the full article here if you want to dive into his reasons, but in my experience as a Leica owner there are more rational reasons to switch away from M temporarily between releases that he probably isn’t admitting to his readers or maybe even himself. For one, it’s highly likely that a new M will be released around photokina so now is an ideal time to thoroughly test a new camera system if you’re considering switching to maximize your trade in/resale, selling a M at the right time can save anywhere between $1k too $2k, which kind of makes the X100T free if he did well selling. The M240 is still a capable camera, but it’s ISO and flash performance aren’t anywhere near a modern Fujifilm camera. I look forward to his why I switched back article after photokina, unless the new M disappoints.

The Best Fujinon XF2X TC WR Photos Yet

teleconverterXF2X-499x400

I have read a lot about how the Fujinon XF100-400mm F4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR and  Fujinon XF2X TC WR do not work well together, but these are some of the best images I have seen from the combination yet. Granted, Fujifilm has a lot of control over their most recent post, but seeing this combination perform well together makes me want to give the 2x TC a try. Maybe the combination performs well on the old 16MP sensor, but not on the new 24MP sensor…
