Metabones PL to Fujifilm X-mount T CINE Speed Booster ULTRA 0.71x

Speed Booster ULTRA  for E-Mount and X-mount cameras
Sharper corners, less distortion, reduced vignetting
New optical design:  advanced 5-element/4-group optical design incorporating ultra-high index tantalum-based optical glass to achieve extraordinary optical performance with improved corner sharpness, distortion and reduced vignetting.

Like the revolutionary original Metabones Speed Booster announced in January 2013, the Speed Booster ULTRA has a magnification of 0.71x, and so it effectively reduces the crop factor of mirrorless cameras with DX-sized sensors and Super35 camcoder, such as Sony E-mount, Fuji X-mount cameras Sony FS7 MARKII, from 1.5x to 1.07x.  However, the new ULTRA design makes very effective use of exotic materials at the furthest limit of glassmaking technology, and as a result is well corrected for use with virtually all fullframe SLR/Prime lenses regardless of exit pupil distance.  (More information can be found in the press release here)

30 Minute Fujifilm GFX 50S Exposure With and Without Noise Reduction

Last week I wrote a post about using the Fujifilm GFX 50S for long exposure photography and a reader in our Fujifilm GFX Owners Group suggested I test the sensor without noise reduction. So, I waited for a night with a late moon rise and made the above 30 minute exposure without noise reduction and then made the below photo with long exposure noise reduction turned on. Both photos are remarkably similar, but there was a slight color shift. Tonight I might try to do a 60 minute exposure if the sky remains clear. Read More »

Fujifilm GFX 50S: The Data You’re Looking For GFX vs Hasselblad X1D vs Canon 5DS R and More

Photons just added the Hasselblad X1D and the results are a little surprising. Starting at base PDR the X1D scores 11.98, while the Fujifilm GFX 50S scores 11.90, but from there they go back and forth until 1600 ISO, where the X1D scores 8.50 and the GFX 8.60. Past 1600 ISO the X1D continues to drop, while the GFX remains around 8 until using the push ISO of 25,600. This is where things get interesting in my opinion because the X1D still falls behind the GFX with a PDR of 5.5 compared to the GFX with 5.54. Very interesting results to say the least. It looks like these cameras are going to come down to the glass you are shooting, unless you are using high ISO. It’s also interesting to note that the Canon 5DS R never catches the GFX or X1D. You can manipulate the results here.

Fotografbank – If you’re looking for more than a dynamic range comparison then check out how the image quality of the Fujifilm GFX 50S compares to the Canon 5DS R.

Fujifilm GFX 50S vs Sony a7RII – The comparison is in German and the sub translation isn’t great so I’m just posting a link if you want to check it out. They shot test charts and images to compare, which are worth a look.

Fujifilm GFX 50S Test and Review – Yet another non-english video, but some of the photos from this are in our Fujifilm GFX Owners Group.

Fuji Guys Official Fujifilm GFX 50S Unboxing Video

The Fuji Guys released their official unboxing video a little late for my Fujifilm GFX 50S roundup post earlier today, but I didn’t want to wait to share it for those that want to know what’s in the box. Nothing really new here, but it’s the Fujiguys.

Fujifilm X-T2 vs Nikon D750 AF Comparison

Fujifilm’s AF system has grown by leaps and bounds since the Fujifilm X100 and X-Pro1 launched. FStoppers has a decent write up about the history of Fujifilm’s AF past and how firmware 4.00 changed Fujifilm AF for the better. Yet the most compelling part of their article is probably the AF videos they produced. Read More »
