Fujifilm Wins The Hermes Award For Innovation

Fujifilm wins the Hermes Award for Innovation in the category of Best Strategy of Innovation
– organized by Paris Club and European Institute for Creative Strategies & Innovation

June 20, 2017

FUJIFILM Corporation (President: Kenji Sukeno) has been awarded the Hermes Award for Innovation, organized by the Paris Club and the European Institute for Creative Strategies & Innovation, in the category of Best Strategy of Innovation.

The Hermes Award for Innovation was established in 2009 to extend recognition to companies that have introduced the highest level of knowledge to products and services to enhance public and social satisfaction. The decision to grant the honor to Fujifilm came after Paris Club’s visit to Fujifilm’s Open Innovation Hub at the company’s Tokyo head office in March this year. Paris Club officials praised how Fujifilm has reinvented itself from primarily a photographic film business into a diversified corporation amidst the contraction of the photographic film market, while also recognizing the company’s active approach in applying its proprietary technologies, developed in the photographic business, to a variety of business fields, and working with external business partners for “co-creation” of solutions to future social challenges.

Managing Director & President, Ken Sugiyama, FUJIFILM France S.A.S. President, Marc Giget, EICSI President

The Open Innovation Hub is a facility that allows business partners to have first-hand experience of fundamental and core technologies that underlie excellent materials and products developed by the Fujifilm Group, as well as fresh technologies, materials and products currently under development. From the experience in The Open Innovation Hub, business partners can engage in “co-creation” with Fujifilm, initiating a tide of innovation with epoch-making products, technologies and services. At present, the Open Innovation Hub has been set up in Japan (Tokyo), the Netherlands (Tilburg) and the United States (Silicon Valley), facilitating open innovation activities in line with the characteristics of the respective regions.

The Fujifilm Group will continue to make maximum use of its diverse resources to create products and services that truly capture customer needs, thereby delivering new values to society.

Fujifilm GFX 50S: Road Trip Wrap-up, Fitness Shoot, Interview and More

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5mFEy5Q8KU&t=508s

Hireacamera did a wrap-up show above of their road trip and it sounds like the Canon 5DSR was left pretty far behind the GFX in dynamic range. The photographer that was shooting the Canon frequently shot the camera to the limit, while the amateur that uses the Fujifilm GFX 50S was barely able to hit the limit of the camera because of how much additional dynamic range the camera has. The GFX truly does make photography easy, especially under challenging conditions, which allows you to attempt things that you would not attempt with another camera system.

Fujifilm GFX FPS Additional Gift

I received an unexpected package from Fujifilm the other day. A 16GB mini Fujifilm GFX 50S keychain/thumb drive. It’s a nice touch and probably the item I like most out of the welcome kit so far. I’m curious if anyone else received theirs yet and if it came with the lens they register their camera with to sign up for the program. For me, it was the Fujinon GF 63mm F2.8 R WR and I think it would be a nice touch if they also included the Fujinon GF 32-64mm f4 R LM WR and Fujinon GF 120 f4 R LM OIS WR Macro for photographers that chose to register them with their camera first. These gifts could be manufactured a little better for how much the program costs, but it’s nice to know that nothing is being added as a gift that I will have to wait until my next renewal to receive. Fujifilm certainly takes care of their customers even if they don’t always meet or exceed high expectations of quality. I would even be happy if FPS members were offered a private store to buy exclusive shirts and accessories like the GFX pelican case Fujifilm uses to send cameras to X-Photographers.

Hopefully, the program continues to grow and eventually include all of my X gear. I’m not sure what I will do when renewal time comes around if they do not cover the rest of my gear for cleaning etc… It’s a nice program to be a part of, but as of now, I don’t see a lot of value unless you’re extremely hard on your gear and the GFX isn’t exactly a delicate camera.

Fujifilm Flash Announcements For Everyone

It looks like the inexpensive Godox TT350F flash will be ship around the end of the month, but a final date is unavailable yet. I wasn’t going to post about this because there are quite a few dates out there at the moment, but if you want to preorder one you can preorder at Amazon or Adorama.

Godox also has some future Plans for Fujifilm flashes which you can view on their site here. It looks like they are going to provide one of the more comprehensive value priced flash systems going forward based on the Godox X1T-F, which hasn’t been formally announced yet.

Cactus also just updated their unit for better cross platform flash support, but we at FujiAddict prefer and recommend RoboSHOOT. Cactus is a good entry level solution for people just learning about flash, but RoboSHOOT is the way to go if you only want to make one purchase.

You can download the newest Cactus V6 II Firmware here and the Quickstart guide can be found here. If you want to know more you can visit the Cactus X-TTL site.

Finally, probably the best value in Fujifilm flashes Nissin is bringing HSS + TTL to the Air 1 + Di700A combo. You can get the necessary firmware update via Nissin directly (Upgrades only available in Japan at this time, but should be international shortly) since their flashes aren’t user upgradeable. If you’re looking to purchase an already upgraded combo:

“If you purchase the product recently, the label stuck on the box of the product is 3.00 for the Di 700 A and the stamp with the Air 1 for 4.10 are already pressed, the product already rewritten to the HSS compliant firmware Because it becomes, there is no need to send it.”

Nissin offers the best option for native HSS + TTL support at this time and I hope to pick up some of their flashes soon in addition to my Fujifilm EF-X500 and Impact Venture TTL-600. The Fujifilm EF-X500 is great, but no RF and cost make it less attractive than Nissin’s solution.
