X-E3 Firmware Ver.1.20
Supports “FUJIFILM X RAW STUDIO”
After connecting a camera to a computer via USB cable, the “FUJIFILM X RAW STUDIO” enables users to convert RAW files with X-Processor Pro. Fast batch processing will also be available. The “FUJIFILM X RAW STUDIO” can be downloaded from the FUJIFILM website for free.

Support for backup/restore of camera settings via FUJIFILM X Acquire
Once connecting a camera to a computer via USB cable, the “FUJIFILM X Acquire” allows users to backup/restore camera settings to/from a file. Copying all camera settings from one camera to another is available.

Compatible with the newly developed FUJINON XC15-45mmF3.5-5.6 OIS PZ lens
The upgrade will add compatibility for the newly developed FUJINON XC15-45mmF3.5-5.6 OIS PZ lens.

1: MF ring can be used as zoom ring
2: Maintain the lens zoom position during interval shooting
3: Maintain the lens zoom position in playback mode to shorten the startup time for the next shooting

Improve radio flash controller usability
The upgrade allows users to shoot with compatible third party studio flash in high speed sync. or TTL mode via their radio controllers.

Enhanced Bluetooth connectivity via the FUJIFILM Camera Remote app.
The upgrade allows users to utilize the following functions with the latest “FUJIFILM Camera Remote” app.

1: The upgrade allows users to select multiple smartphones or tablet devices by paring the cameras.(Up to 7 devices)
2: Update the firmware** of compatible cameras that offer Bluetooth capability via smartphone or tablet devices.
3: It supports Bluetooth wireless remote control camera shutter release** for cameras that offer Bluetooth capability.

Enlarged and customizable indicators or information
The upgrade allows users to enlarge indicators and information in the viewfinder and/or LCD monitor. This upgrade will also enable users to customize the location of where the information is shown on the display.

When enlarged display, some icons are not displayed like distance indicator, focus frame, focus mode, focus warning, microphone/remote release, AF+MF, button lock and sound and flash indicator.

New functions are added to store and read of camera settings by FUJIFILM X Acquire. Once connecting a camera to a computer via USB cable, the “FUJIFILM X Acquire” allows users to backup/restore camera settings to/from a file. With “FUJIFILM X Acquire” (ver.1.7 or newer), CUSTOM REGISTRATION/EDIT settings are also stored and read.

We have discovered a malfunction in the recently lunched FUJIFILM X-H1.
It is as follows:

  1. 1.In rare cases, image files can be overwritten when a folder is selected by the SELECT FOLDER function in the SETUP menu and you take pictures.

We have identified the cause and released the upgraded firmware (Version 1.02) to address the malfunction.

Notification For Fringer Contax645-GFX Smart Adapter Users

For those Fringer GFX fans out there fringe issued a warning for the Fringer Contax 645-GFX Smart Adapter. Some Arca style quick release clamps might not fully tighten on the adapters foot. So make sure that your adapter is compatible before risking your Fujifilm GFX.

Dear Fringer Contax 645-GFX adapter users,

According to a couple of users’ feedback, with very low possibilities, the foot (tripod mount) of the adapter may not be fully compatible with some of the Arca style quick release clamps in the market. It may not be tight and secure enough even the screw is tightened. Because we have to take care of handheld usage as well, there are no safety stop screws under the foot. Thus, if you mount the foot directly to a Arca style quick release clamp, make sure it’s installed tightly and securely. Or you may consider installing an additional quick release plate with safety stop screws to the food through a 1/4″ screw. Then install the quick release plate to the clamp.

Laowa 9mm f/2.8 Zero-D vs Samyang 8mm F2.8 UMC Fisheye II First Look

I received my Laowa 9mm f/2.8 Zero-D the other day along with the welcome kit and it seems to be a well built light lens, but it has an extremely light feel to it compared to the Samyang 8mm f/2.8 Fisheye II that I usually use for wide photos. Both lenses are very similar in size, but the Samyang 8mm f/2.8 has a fixed hood, while the Laowa 9mm f/2.8 Zero-D does not.

The next new moon is in 20 days, so that is likely the first opportunity I will have to use this lens. Maybe I will try to reshoot my Tesla Model 3 GFX photo from the last new moon with the Fujifilm X-H1 or X-T2. I have to say that the fit and finish of the Laowa 9mm f/2.8 Zero-D is making me excited for the Laowa GF 17mm f/4 that is coming, because it will give me a few more seconds exposure for astrophotography, but I wish the 17mm were a little faster.

Fujifilm GFX FPS Year Two

Fujifilm Professional Services year two is off to a decent start with some useful gifts that go beyond the first year welcome package. Fujifilm made the first year of their professional service program worth wild by shipping multiple gifts throughout the year (1, 2) that almost equal the $499 value of the membership once you include the cost of cleaning so it will be interesting to see if they continue the practice this year.

I haven’t used my 4 cleaning vouchers from last year yet, but will be using them in the coming weeks as I contacted Fujifilm about using them before renewing. The process is pretty strait forward and you can actually get a lens and body cleaned together with one voucher so you could clean your body four times if you wished along with a lens each time.
