Relations Between Fujifilm and Xerox Are Breaking Down

Fujifilm is trying to force their merger with Xerox or collect damages, which is causing relations to sour between the two companies. Market insider published part of a letter between Vice Chairman and CEO John Visentin and Fujifilm’s Chairman Shigetaka Komori responding to the lawsuit filed by Fujifilm stating:

“Fujifilm should realize that the internal accounting issues at Fuji Xerox were a result of their mismanagement, which made it impossible to close the announced transaction,” said Visentin. “We cannot stand by and let them further harm our iconic brand. The lawsuit is nothing more than a desperate and misguided negotiating ploy to save their takeover attempt, which to this day remains enjoined by order of the New York State Supreme Court, and could take our focus away from serving our customers.”

“Our focus is on running the business in the service of our thousands of customers and partners and delivering exceptional value through market-leading services, products and delivery capabilities,” added Visentin.

“Fujifilm’s actions have forced us to move forward on several fronts to protect our supply chain. First, we will start, in a material way, to source products from new vendors. Second, we will build partnerships with companies that are aligned with the Xerox mission to provide world-class technology and solutions. Third, we currently believe Xerox will be much better served by not renewing our Technology Agreement with Fuji Xerox when it expires. We will detail for our shareholders the enormous opportunity for Xerox to sell products directly into the growing Asia-Pacific market with sole and exclusive use of the valuable Xerox name, and a more efficient, better managed supply chain than exists with Fuji Xerox today.”

“Xerox is a proven technology innovator and an exceptionally resilient company; we remain steadfastly focused on creating shareholder value through our renowned innovation capabilities, globally recognized brand, and leading market presence.”

Unfortunately, the deterioration of the relationship could affect Fujifilm’s long-term bottom line because Xerox is threatening to not renew their partnership in 2021 when it expires according to multiple sites (1, 2, …). The lose of their lucrative partnership could cost a lot more than the $1 billion that they are currently suing Xerox for. If Xerox terminated their partnership they would most likely have to start producing their products again independently and it’s unclear how successful of a move this would be. In the meantime, Xerox stock continues to fall in price.

Fringer EF/FX Adapters’ Bug Fix Firmware (V2.10) is Available

According to some users’ feedback, V2.0 firmware introduced a bug that some old lenses may fail to be identified by the adapter. Wrong aperture value is displayed and AF doesn’t work properly. Meanwhile, we also fixed a bug that may cause repeatedly black screen and camera restart under some rare conditions. Please upgrade you adapter as soon as possible.

Be noted, V2.10 is a replacement for V2.0 as the new baseline. In the future all firmware version newer than V2.10 can only be installed on adapter with V2.0, V2.10 or newer version firmware. V1.x must be upgraded to V2.0 or V2.10 before install firmware newer than V2.10.

2018/6/24
Version 2.10 (Bug fix version)
1.Bug fixed: Under some rare conditions, it may occur repeatedly that the LCD go black and the camera restart.
2.Bug fixed: Fail to identify some old lenses, such as Tamron 90/2.8 the oldest version, Canon 50/1.8 II, etc. The aperture value displayed may be incorrect.
Note: v2.10 is a bug fix for v2.0. Thus, you don’t need to install v2.0 before v2.10 on a v1.x adapter. Adapters with firmware v1.x must be upgraded to v2.0 or v2.10 before install any firmware newer than v2.10. Upgrading from v1.x to firmware newer than v2.10 directly is not supported.

Lengthy Fujifilm Manager Interview: Fujifilm X-T100, Fujinon XF 8-16mm F2.8 R LM WR, Fujifilm GFX, and More

Mr. Udono was interviewed by กล้องกล้วยกล้วย a Taiwanese channel on YouTube and I have transcribed/paraphrased the excruciatingly long interview for you below. You’re welcome to watch it above since the relevant parts are in English, but the 40m 50s long interview with translation is slow. Even Mr. Udono spaces out and looks tired at times, which is probably why he dropped the X-T100.

The big takeaways are

  • Fujinon XF 8-16mm F2.8 R LM WR coming this year
  • The Fujifilm X-T100 was designed to fit nicely between the X-A5 and X-T20
  • Selfie screen could come to more models if customers want it
  • Tilty flippy screen wasn’t implemented to keep the X-T100 compact.
  • No hints about the Fujifilm GFX 50R even with pushing, but Photokina 2018 shouldn’t be missed.

Fujifilm X-T100
Q: Where does the X-T100 Fit
A: Between X-T20 and X-A5
It’s good for selfies and vlogging

Q: Difference between X-T20 and X-T100
No shutter speed dial is the biggest difference
It’s designed to be easy to use

Q: Why doesn’t the X-T100 have a tilty flippy screen
A: The camera would have to be bigger and it would weigh more.

Side note at this point Mr. Udono dropped the X-T100 and it held up just fine to the waist level drop.

Q: Will the selfie screen be found on other models?
A: Yes if customers want it.

Q: How does the quality of the X-T100 picture compare to the X-T20
A: High ISO and speed are slightly better on X-T20 thanks to the X-Trans sensor, but X-T100 is faster and better than X-A5.

Q: What makes the X-T100 stand out?
A: 6fps and 30 min for 4k15p.

Q: Asked about the new X-T100 Grip
A: They wanted to make the new X-T100 grip the customers choice if they want to attach the grip or not, which is included in the box.

Q: What is the image quality you expect
A: Still pure Fujifilm processing technology so image quality should be very good.

Q: You can charge the camera via USB, but what about developing battery bank support
A: We are studying it and working on it.

Q: Could we see 4k30p
A: It’s a hardware limitation, but maybe in the next camera.

Q: Why buy the X-T100
A: Great travel camera that you can carry with you anywhere.

Fujifilm GFX and Full Frame
Q: Rumor about big camera company going Full Frame and will Fujifilm
A: We have APS-C and GFX Medium Format, which is much better than Full Frame. Lens and camera size matter so we are making smaller/lighter/easy to carry X series and for the ultimate image quality GFX.

Q: Next year what’s going on with medium format (We know GFX R is coming)
A: More lenses coming.

Q: What is the medium format camera market size
A: In the past it was small, but Fujifilm has expanded the market and will continue to with what is coming.

Q: Is there a cheaper camera coming
A: If customers want it with a smile on Mr. Udono’s face.

Fujinon XF 8-16mm F2.8 R LM WR
Q: When is it coming
A: Working hard to launch it this year.

Misc
Q: Will Fujifilm add cellphone style AI to their cameras?
A: Face and Eye detection is kind of this technology, but we try to help customers improve their photos anyway we can.

Q: What are Fujifilm’s strongest points
A: Our color reproduction technology and our high-quality lenses.

Q: What do you think of the print market
A: Very few photos are printed and framed, but it depends on the customer.

Q: What is your strategy for growth
A: We want to be different especially in terms of image and lens quality. Our X-T20, XT-2, X-H1 are all similar, but with different concepts.

Q: What’s the plan for Photokina 2018
A: It’s a big event and we will present our latest technology.

Q: Can we expect to see a new model camera?
A: You will have to come and find out… (Or just read FujiAddict)

Fujifilm X100F Brown Unboxing and X100F + TCL-X100 II Deal

Big Head Taco unboxed the Fujifilm X100F Brown and beyond the different wrap, everything else is the same in the box. During the unboxing, he did mention that the brown wrap felt more leather like so maybe Fujifilm used a higher quality material to wrap the camera with than they normally do, which will also likely be used on the Fujifilm X-E3 Brown.

Adorama currently has the Fujifilm X100F discounted and you can bundle it with the Fujifilm TCL-X100 II here as a special offer. This is a great deal and hopefully, B&H Photo will match it soon. The Fujifilm TCL-X100 II is a 1.4x upconverter that gives the Fujifilm X100F an effective focal length of 50mm if you’re not familiar with it and it is a very useful tool to accompany the X100F.
