Fringer Firmware V2.30 Released

As we planned, V2.30 firmware has been released for Fringer EF/FX smart adapters.

Improvements integrated in V2.30 include:

  1. Bug fixed: For some zoom lenses, when working at certain focal length, AF may repeatedly fail to acquire focus point.
  2. Bug fixed: Due to some minor differences of the mount protocol processing between the lens and the adapter, some lenses especially Tamron ones may cause the camera to work unstably or frequent black screen and restart.
  3. Following lens has been further optimized to improve PDAF performance:
    1. EF-S 10-18/4.5-5.6 STM
  4. Added following lenses to the tested and optimized lens list:
    1. Tamron SP 150-600/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2
    2. Tamron 100-400/4.5-6.3 Di VC USD
    3. Tamron SP 45/1.8 Di VC USD
    4. Tamron SP 85/1.8 Di VC USD
    5. Sigma 70/2.8 DG Macro Art
    6. EF 180/3.5L Macro
    7. EF-S 18-135/3.5-5.6 IS USM
    8. EF-S 18-55/3.5-5.6 IS STM

Please visit my website to download the update file and its release notes.

Be noted: Before upgrading to V2.30, make sure current firmware version is V2.x. If it’s V1.x, please upgrade to V2.10 first.

Recently, a lot of users asked for optimization of Tamron SP 150-600/5-6.3 G2. Now here it is. You may refer to this AF demo video for better understanding how it performs on a Fujifilm X-H1.

According to my tests, Tamron 150-600G2 performs quite well on X-Trans III cameras. I even shot BIF and got many successful results. I believe its AF motor is better than that of Sigma 100-400.

All the pictures above were straight out of a X-Pro2 installed with Tamron 150-600G2 (@600mm F6.3) and Fringer EF-FX Pro adapter. Camera was set to AF-C mode, central 7 x 7 zone focus and high speed continuous shooting.

Currently Fringer EF-FX Pro adapter is open for pre-order. You may visit my web store to place your order. The adapter will begin to be shipped before August 17. Usually it takes 3 to 5 working days to deliver.

Net SE The Company Behind Meyer Optik Görlitz is in Bankruptcy

There’s been a pretty big jump in third-party lens releases over the past two years and Meyer Optik Görlitz has been a part of that jump. Unfortunately, Net SE which is the company behind Meyer Optik Görlitz, Ihagee and Schacht has been in bankruptcy since mid-July.

At this time it is unknown what will be the effect of this bankruptcy, but Meyer Optik Görlitz has almost nothing left in stock on their site. The current Indeiegogo and Kickstarters campaigns are further complicated by the lawsuit and the following statement was released as an update.

“we have a rather sad message for you today. A few weeks ago, our founder, CEO and main investor Stefan Immes had a serious traffic accident, which he barely survived. Although we have been able to talk to him and although, for a very short time of the day he has become the astute, humorous and positive entrepreneur we know, it is now clear that due to the severity of the injuries he will not be able to continue running the company in the foreseeable future.

For a company of 15 employees only, this entails a large number of changes. Currently, we are in the process of reorganization and are trying to establish a working system as no successor regulation can yet be found for the Net SE Group. For this reason, we are currently undergoing a restructuring process with an as yet unknown outcome for the individual divisions.

Especially as far as Crowdfunding is concerned, we think that we will need until the end of October to be able to share our conclusions on how to proceed. One of the top priorities of the Oprema Crowdfunding team is, of course, to deliver the orders we receive as promised. However, we ask for your understanding that, for legal reasons alone, we cannot make any faster decisions without having reorganized the company. For technical questions, our support team is of course still available, but we can only make limited forecasts about the development progress of our projects.

We are honestly touched and the shock still sits deep. We are also extremely sorry that we are not able to spread better and more positive news at the moment, but we are working very hard to change this at short notice.

Yours sincerly, team at Oprema Optik”

The following Kickstarter/Indiegogo are likely affected by Net SE’s bankruptcy and could lead to a total loss for backers.

We have always had a good relationship with Meyer Optik Görlitz and we wish them well. Hopefully, backers are made whole in this process so that future backers aren’t reluctant to get involved in future lens projects on Kickstarter/Indiegogo.

Fujifilm Rent-to-Own Makes Owning a Camera Easier

Fujifilm Rent-to-Own makes owning a camera easier
In the current economic circumstances, buying a new camera can be a difficult financial endeavour. It is for this reason that Fujifilm South Africa is introducing its new Rent-to-Own programme.

Through an easy online or in-store process, customers can now rent a Fujifilm product, with the opportunity to keep it after a set period of time. This applies to Fujifilm’s X-Series of mirrorless cameras, including the new X-T100 and X-H1, as well as the Fujinon range of lenses.

Customers looking to sign up for the Rent-to-Own programme can head over to fujifilmrentals.com. Here they have the option to rent select cameras and lenses over a 6, 12, 18 and 24-month period.

Customers have a number of alternatives available when signing up for the Rent-to-Own programme. The first is to simply return the equipment after the rental period expires, or to continue to rent, but at a reduced rate. For many, the preferable options would be to pay a once-off fee of R600 to then own the equipment outright after the agreed upon period has concluded. Read More »

Official Elinchrom Skyport EL on Fujifilm X-T2 Photo

The Elinchrom Skyport EL with Fujifilm support was officially announced about a month ago, but there have always been pictures of the Elinchrom Skyport EL on Fujifilm cameras, you can even find one at the bottom of this page on a Fujifilm X10. The above photo is the current official one by Elinchrom.

I received some emails about recent photos of the Skyport EL on Fujifilm cameras and decided to address them here. The current Skyport EL fits just fine on any Fujifilm cameras, but it will not support TTL until September. I am sure people will come across many photos leading up to the September release which isn’t far off, but they aren’t informative beyond the announcement since there are already many on google already.

Fujifilm FY2019/3 Q1 Financial Results (April 1, 2018 – March 31, 2019): Fujifilm GFX100S, GFX50R, and X-T3 R&D Expenses Disclosed

Fujifilm has invested heavily in their R&D and for FY2019/3 Q1 they had to disclose that these expenses are affecting operating income growth. They also continue to have strong Instax sales thanks to the release of the Instax Square SQ6 as well as increasing their projections for annual sales from 9 million units to 10 million units due to increased sales in the United States and Europe where sales are strong and in the emerging markets.

In the electronic imaging business, overall revenues increased thanks to the Fujifilm X-H1, Fujifilm X-T100 and  lens sales remained strong, espxially for 4k video lenses used for broadcast. There was also a lot of investment in R&D for a new sensor and processor to be used in future Fujifilm cameras like the Fujifilm GFX100S, GFX50R, and X-T3.

In the photo imaging business, sales were strong in instant photo systems such as the instax series and instax films. The sales volume of the instax series totaled 1.75 million units in this quarter. Sales increased with instax SQUARE SQ6, the instant camera with simple and stylish design which adopted square format, launched in May 2018. Wall Decor, Photobook and other value-added printing businesses also expanded and contributed to the revenue.

Regarding instax, we have revised the targeted annual sales volume upward from previously announced 9.0 million units to 10.0 million units, estimating the sales increase both in the U.S. and Europe, where the sales are strong, and in the emerging countries.

In the electronic imaging business, overall revenue increased due to solid sales of X Series such as FUJIFILM X-H1, a flagship model launched in March 2018, and FUJIFILM X-T100, an entry-level model, launched in June 2018, and interchangeable lenses. Professional photographers and camera enthusiasts have given high praise to our proprietary technology, which enables impressive depictions such as unrivalled, superior color reproduction, and the extensive line-up of 39 lenses.

In the optical device business, sales increased, reflecting steady performance of various industrial-use lenses such as those for vehicle cameras. Fujifilm is the pioneer of 4K lenses for use in broadcasting with highly valued image quality, and is seeking to increase its market share with the diverse lineup of 8 models.

In the Imaging Solutions segment, revenue increased due to strong sales in all businesses, while operating income remained at the same level, due to such factors as upfront R&D investment for next generation processor and sensor for digital cameras and others.

Imaging Solutions consolidated revenues were up 3.5% over the same period last year due to the sales increase in all businesses, while consolidated operations income was down 2.2% due to upfront investment in R&D for the Fujifilm GFX100S, GFX50R, and X-T3. Read More »
