Fujifilm Patent 25mm f/1.4 For 1.1-inch Type Sensor

This patent might be for Fujifilm’s machine vision lenses or it could be for something else. The patent doesn’t have many details, but a 25mm f/1.4 would be an interesting design from Fujifilm.

Accurate Fujifilm GFX100S Size Comparison: Sony a7RIII, Fujifilm X-H1, Nikon Z7, Canon EOS R, Fujifilm GFX50R, Fujifilm GFX50S, Fujifilm GFX100S, Canon EOS-1D x Mark II, and Nikon D5

Thanks to CameraSize.com it’s possible to do an accurate Fujifilm GFX100S comparison using the camera mount to size the camera. The dimensions of the photos out there might be slightly different from the final production camera, but the GFX mount and sensor size will never change. I decided to include a few different popular cameras here in addition to some monstrously large cameras. I could also make a printable like I did the GFX if there is demand for it, but the Fujifilm GFX100S is going to be a more niche product than the Fujifilm GFX50S and GFX50R.

Above and a little bit larger below I included the  Sony a7RIII, Fujifilm X-H1, Nikon Z7, Canon EOS R, Fujifilm GFX50R, Fujifilm GFX50S, Fujifilm GFX100S, Canon EOS-1D x Mark II, and Nikon D5. Probably the best way to view this comparison is by downloading the images, which you can grab by right-clicking here and here to save the images.

PhotoPills Adds The Fujifilm GFX50R, X-T3 and Zeiss ZX1 to Their Database

PhotoPills is a great tool for photographing landscapes when astronomical data comes into play. They added some of the new cameras from Photokina to their database today with the Fujifilm GFX50R, X-T3 and Zeiss ZX1 being of the most interest. You can get PhotoPills on iOS or Android at this time and it’s a must have for landscape and astrophotography. We always use it for planning shots during the new moon in advance and it’s incredibly accurate.

Photokina 2018 Wrap-up

Photokina 2018 has wrapped up and it was full of many big announcements from Fujifilm, most of which were leaked on FujiAddict first. There were also some surprising announcements like the Leica, Panasonic, Sigma partnership; Zenit rangefinder camera and Zeiss ZX1; along with a somewhat heartbreaking Olympus press conference that basically reiterated their belief in the viability of micro 43.

This Photokina was probably the biggest yet, with medium format creeping its way down to the masses, and the possible death of micro four thirds. So I’ve decided to do a general post about the camera industry.

Fujifilm
Fujifilm had some of the most grandiose announcements out of the bunch because they seem to be trying to squeeze full frame out of the mainstream. If you own or have used a GFX, it’s easy to understand how easily it could be used for 99% of your shooting needs. Fujifilm is even making the system more compact with the GFX50R for those that want to hit the street with medium format.

The announcement of the Fujifilm GFX100S is a milestone halo medium format camera of sorts that gives us a glimpse of things to come. It seems like Fujifilm is producing it simply to end the debate about medium format vs full frame. They even coined a new term Super Full Frame to reinforce its supremacy. Part of me wonders if Canon/Nikon realized this reality and that’s why they designed their new mounts to be so big, but more about that later. Read More »

DPRTV: Fujifilm X-T3 Review

The Fujifilm X-T3 is the best all-around APS-C camera on the market according to DPRTV. You can do anything in photography or videography with it and get top tear results. The only “negative” thing that DPRTV really comes up with is the lack of IBIS, which we know will come in the Fujifilm X-H2.

Fujifilm X-T3 For Photos

Pros

  • New hybrid AF phase detect system has great AF in low light
  • Great electronic shutter performance
  • Jello is very controlled
  • Great AF performance
  • Eye AF actually works and can track like Sony, but Sony has a little higher hit rate
  • A small improvement in dynamic range around base ISO of about 1/3 stop
  • Great EVF
  • Most capable focusing AF system

Cons

  • Slightly higher pixel noise at high ISO than X-T2
  • Dynamic range not quite as good as the X-T2 at high ISO
  • It can miss AF sometimes
  • No easy way to switch between faces in a group with Eye AF

Fujifilm X-T3 For Video

Pros

  • Great skin tones
  • Very fast scanning sensor so not much jello
  • Great panning
  • On par with high-end Panasonic cameras
  • Great preamps for recording audio that is as good as Panasonics
  • Very impressed with the quality of this camera
  • GH5 is the most comparable camera to the XT3
  • Very reliable AF
  • Very capable AF system
  • Silent movie controls have seperate settings
  • Very clean sharp image with 24/30/60p and 120p is very good too even though it has a little crop
  • Great preamps in camera
  • One of the best cameras out there right now

Cons

  • Needs to be able to tap your subject and have the camera follow
  • Needs a flip screen like the X-T100
  • IBIS would be great since the X-H1 had great IBIS
  • Hopes Fujifilm releases an X-H2 soon
