The Fujifilm Xerox Merger Might Be Back On

The Fujifilm Xerox merger might be on after a New York State Appellate Court ruled in favor of Fujifilm, which effectively allows the merger agreement to go through as originally intended. The problem is that the activist investors that stopped the merger now run the company so they likely will be uninterested in fulfilling the original merger agreement.

This means that Fujifilm will likely have to be satisfied with pursuing well over $1 billion in damages if Icahn and Deason are unwilling to let the merger go through as originally agreed upon. It seems unlikely at this point that Fujifilm would offer more, but both companies futures are intertwined so the outcome could affect Fujifilm and Xerox significantly. Xerox’s desire to end their highly profitable partnership with Fujifilm over their merger disagreement could be detrimental to Fujifilm’s future.

Hopefully, Icahn and Deason will let the shareholders decided if they want to go through with the merger. Fujifilm likely won’t increase their offer since the courts ruled in their favor and a judgment north of $1 billion could make relations between the companies more bitter.

Iridient Digital 3.3 Adds Fujifilm X-T3, GFX 50R, and XF10 Support

The Iridient Developer 3.3 (macOS only) update has been released and brings support for many recently introduced RAW cameras, optimized support for macOS 10.14 Mojave including automatic Dark Mode switching, bug fixes and other improvements.

This version is a free update for users who have purchased a license more recently than March 10, 2017. Mac OS X 10.6.8 is no longer supported. The macOS system requirements for Irident Developer are now Mac OS X 10.7 or later.

Fujifilm Fiscal Year 2019/3 1H Financial Report (April 1, 2018 – March 31, 2019): Instax and Fujifilm X-T3

In the Imaging Solutions segment, consolidated revenue amounted to ¥175.9 billion (up 0.6% from the same period of the previous fiscal year), reflecting solid sales in all businesses.

Consolidated operating income amounted to ¥21.6 billion (down 9.1% from the same period of the previous fiscal year), due to advertising and promotion costs and upfront investments such as R&D.

In the photo imaging business, overall sales increased especially in instant photo systems which enable users to enjoy on-the-spot printing of photos, such as the instax series and instax films. Instax SQUARE SQ6, the instant camera launched in May 2018, has gained popularity with the younger generation who are familiar with SNS. We will work on the further increase of the sales and brand awareness of instax through a global promotion featuring Taylor Swift as the instax global partner. In the value-added printing businesses, we are expanding a base of the printing market by, for example, launching a service to print pictures ordered via the smartphone app Super-Easy Print on multifunctional copy machines in Seven-Eleven stores located throughout Japan in August 2018. Fujifilm X-T1 Firmware 5.51 Fixes Fujinon XC15-45mmF3.5-5.6 OIS PZ Compatibility

Regarding the Malfunction of the FUJIFILM X-T1 Firmware ver.5.50
To all loyal Fujifilm X Series customers and photographers,

It has been brought to our attention that there is an issue with the recently released X-T1 ver.5.50 firmware update. We have therefore removed the update from the website until we are confident that the issue has been completely fixed.

We deeply apologize for any inconvenience and disappointment this has caused.

<Malfunction>
The firmware is not compatible with XC15-45mmF3.5-5.6 OIS PZ. Zoom and manual focus functions don’t work with the firmware.

<Note>
There is no issue to the compatibility with XF200mmF2 R LM WR added by the firmware ver.5.50.
And this has nothing to do with all the lenses of FUJINON XF and XC series lenses other than the XC15-45mmF3.5-5.6 OIS PZ.

We have identified the cause and plan to release the upgraded firmware to address the malfunction as soon as we can.
