Adobe DNG Converter 11 Now Supports The Fujifilm X-T3

Adobe DNG Converter 11 with Fujifilm X-T3 support was just released and you can download it for Mac or Windows now. If you do not like Adobe’s DNG converter than you can also use Iridient X-Transformer to convert your files, which also gives you the benefits of a little extra sharpness along with a more worm/watercolor resistant file. Irident has supported the Fujifilm X-T3 since the camera launched.

7artisans 35mm F1.2 and 7artisans 12mm F2.8 Roundup

7Artisans released the 7artisans 35mm F1.2 and 7artisans 12mm F2.8 at the beginning for the year but there hasn’t been a lot of coverage of these lenses so I put together a roundup. These lenses are good inexpensive options for photographers that don’t mind a little character.

Instax Leica and Hasselblad Mods

Fujifilm’s Instax film is incredibly popular and the Instax 9 and Instax SQ10 are two of their more popular cameras, but some makers have turned them into an interchangeable M-mount camera and Hasselblad 500C/M back. Projects like this aren’t uncommon, but the attention to detail in both of these projects is impressive. You can read more about the M-mount ILC Instax at Leicarumors and the Hasselblad 500C/M at isaacblankensmith’s site.

DPReview Clarifies Fujifilm X-T3 Results and Some Lightroom/Capture One Insight

DPReview clarified why they believe the Fujifilm X-T3 has a noisier image than the X-T2 and it comes down to the processing in the camera. They believe that the faster information is read off the sensor the noisier it will get. In their estimation, this is really only a deal breaker at 25,600 and 51,200 ISO. They also found that:

  • The X-T3’s image quality is impressive at low, especially at low ISO
  • The highest ISO settings fall behind the best of its peers

I’m already enjoying the Fujifilm X-T3 for long exposures at ISO 80 myself. The pull ISO is very usable and definitely worth a try.

DPReview believes that Fujifilm strikes a good balance between sharpening/noise/detail in their RAW files with the default settings, but the Fujifilm X-T2 still has an edge.

Lightroom

  • Lightroom is improving their processing engine again
  • The noise performance difference should be around 1/3 stop, but the new Lightroom engine is more like a full stop
  • “increase accuracy of shadow (near-zero) values in raw files,” which can give deeper blacks and more contrast in dark regions of the image.
  • Reprocessing X-T2 files don’t account for the difference.

It looks like we will have to wait for Adobe to fully tweak their RAW engine for this new X-Trans sensor. One of the many joys of shooting X-Trans cameras.

Capture One

  • They processed in Capture One to see if there was an improvement and there was a mild one
  • With noise reduction minimized there is still a difference between the Fujifilm X-T2 and X-T3
  • Even after downscaling, the X-T3 shows more noise
