Fujifilm Dominates DPR Instagram Rankings

I know many are critical of DPR, but they do represent a large chunk of the photography world and Fujifilm is contining to gain insterest among their folowers. DPR looked at their Instagram statistics to create a list of the most popular cameras on their instagram account in 2020 and Fujifilm snagged 6 out of ten spots including the very top spot. I also wonder what spot #10 would be if DPR didn’t choose to combine Z7 and D850 interest. Oh and Canon is completely missing from the top 10 which is surprising.

  1. Fujifilm X-Pro3
  2. Pixii Camera
  3. Fujifilm X-T4
  4. Fujifilm X100V
  5. Fujifilm X-S10
  6. Sony a7C
  7. Zeiss ZX1
  8. Fujifilm X-T3
  9. Nikon Z7 and D850
  10. Fujifilm GFX 100

DPRTV: 2021 Camera Industry Predictions – New Cheaper GFX100 and X-H2

DPRTV released its predictions for 2021 and it is not looking good for some companies. It’s also interesting that they believe companies like Canon and Nikon won’t bother pursuing APS-C if there arent changes this year, which might be a good move. Fujifilm is currently the king of mirrorless APS-C even though cameras like the Sony a6000 sell very well. Sony is the only company that could really hurt Fujifilm in the APS-C mirrorless space, but so far they haven’t shown a lot of interest in seriosuly pursing the market. As for DPRTV’s predictions about Fujifilm they come down to:

  • Fujifilm will continue to make progress in the video market since they made a lot of progress in video with the X-T3/X-T4
  • Features that were missing from the X-T4 will be in the X-H2 like a built in headphone jack, better cooling, and higher resloution viewfinder
  • Fujifilm will release a smaller and less expensive 102MP camera with a lower resolution display and worse battery life

The predictions sound pretty spot on to me and are logical leeps just like a lot of the other “rumors” out there, but COVID really has made a mess of everything. The companies that do not survive will make more room in the market for Fujifilm to grow, so if they do a great job with the X-H2 and next GFX then it might help attract some of the photographers that will be jumpingship from failing companies. Thankfully Fujifilm is a big healthy company that is interested in continuing in the camera business so even if we have a few bad years going foward it is a safe bet that they will weather the storm.

Fujifilm SARS-CoV-2antigen Test Kit Using Silver Amplification Immunochromatography Method

Fujifilm applies for manufacturing and marketing approval for a SARS-CoV-2antigen test kit using silver amplification immunochromatography method*
Capital investment for Vietnam production site decided, to provide a stable global supply
TOKYO, December 17, 2020 — FUJIFILM Corporation (President: Kenji Sukeno) is pleased to announce that it has filed an application with the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency to obtain manufacturing and marketing approval for a rapid and simple antigen test kit for detecting SARS-CoV-2, using silver amplification immunochromatography method*, as in-vitro diagnostic medical device. This kit has been developed with the use of highly-sensitive detection technology based on silver halide amplification response used in the photo-developing process.

In a bid to establish a production structure for this test kit, Fujifilm is making a capital investment in FUJIFILM YUWA MEDICAL PRODUCTS VIETNAM COMPANY LIMITED (Head office in Bình Dương, Vietnam), which manufactures Fujifilm’s diagnostics medical products. The investment has been chosen for the third round of a business support program by the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) for diversifying overseas supply chains.

Antigen tests can be carried out quickly and produce results on the spot. Despite these advantages, antigen tests have lower sensitivity than PCR tests and there are growing needs for the improvement of their sensitivity. From their advantages, antigen tests are now being considered globally for use not only at hospitals but also at airports, event venues and other premises as economic activities begin to resume. This has created the need for ensuring stable supply of antigen test kits.

From October this year, Fujifilm and the Public University Corporation Yokohama City University (Kanagawa, Japan) jointly develop the rapid and simple antigen test kit for SARS-CoV-2 using silver amplification immunochromatography method, which is Fujifilm’s proprietary highly-sensitive detection technology. The test kit is due to be produced at Fujifilm’s Ashigara Site in the Kanagawa Factory. However, in anticipation for the product’s global deployment in the future, FUJIFILM YUWA in Vietnam will start gradually reinforcing its production facilities next year to ensure supply stability for the test kit.

Lens Tips: Fujifilm XF 50mm f/1 R WR Review

The Fujifilm XF 50mm f/1 R WR is a somewhat contriversial lens with some loving it and some hating it. Lens Tips seems to be on the side of hating it largely due to it not being exceptional in anyway while the Fujinon XF56mm f/1.2 comes in two varients and they are quality lenses for the price. I personally feel that most f/1 lenses are for users that desire the look over all else because most are flawed and I am happy I stuck with my Fujinon XF56mm f/1.2, but I would like my lens even more if it was weather sealed. You can read the full review here or see the bullet points below:

Pros:

  • solid, weather-sealed casing,
  • excellent image quality in the frame centre,
  • good correction of lateral chromatic aberration,
  • slight distortion,
  • moderate astigmatism,
  • very nice out-of-focus areas,
  • silent and accurate autofocus.

Cons:

  • weak image quality on the edge of the frame near the maximum relative aperture,
  • too high longitudinal chromatic aberration,
  • noticeable spherical aberration,
  • significant coma,
  • distinct vignetting,
  • performance against bright light could have been better,
  • poor price/performance and price/quality ratio.

Instead of a summary I would like to ask some questions:

  1. who in the Fujifilm decided to launch a 1.0/50 lens when there are already two versions of the 1.2/56 instrument available in a system which lacks an 85 mm f/1.2-1.4 device?
  2. why the expensive Fujinon XF 50 mm f/1.0 is not able to get better maximum results than the much cheaper and slower Fujinon 2/50?
  3. why resolution records in the Fujifilm X system belong to the cheap Viltrox and not to the Fujinon XF 50 mm f/1.0, a lens faster and significantly more expensive?
  4. does the Fujifilm X system really needs big, heavy fixed focal length lenses with price tags as high as $1500?
