From sourcing period costumes and props to the authentic backgrounds, Drew then carefully analyses the lighting in each portrait and patiently recreates them using the latest lighting techniques. The end results often show startling resemblances to their forebears

Miles Witt Boyer
DATE: Wednesday, Nov. 18
TIME: 3:30-4:30PM EST

The modern wedding photographer is an artist, a stylist, an entrepreneur, a personality, a brand, a technician, a problem solver, and perhaps most essentially a storyteller. Our stories weave themselves into our images as the experiences we share with our clients. This course will challenge the way you see yourself, ask you to examine the experience you’re delivering for your clients, and encourage you to be intentional with the way you take time to weave your own story into the art you create for your clients.

Ashley Gilbertson And Ron Haviv
DATE: Friday, Nov. 20
TIME: 3:30-4:30PM EST

Gilbertson and Haviv will outline their motivations in practicing photojournalism, their travels around the world documenting social change and their movement into hyper local coverage as their home city of New York was ravaged by the pandemic. Both Gilbertson and Haviv use a variety of Fujifilm cameras for video and still work, and they will cover what situations dictate what format.

FUJIFILM Holdings provides donations to nonprofit organizations supporting single-parent families and “Kodomo-Shokudo” under the spread of COVID-19
TOKYO, November 5, 2020 – FUJIFILM Holdings Corporation (President: Kenji Sukeno) continues to counter novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) through its business activities by applying its proprietary technologies in the areas of prevention, diagnosis, and treatment in healthcare. Fujifilm, as a corporate citizen, is also making company-wide efforts to address and resolve broader social issues.

Fujifilm is providing relief donations to the NPO “Single Mothers Forum,” which provides job seeker assistance and consultation to single-parent families, and the NPO “Japan Kodomo Shokudo Support Center Musubie,” which supports the operation of Kodomo-Shokudo (project to provide free or inexpensive meals to children), to extend assistance to those financially affected by the spread of COVID-19. Other measures include providing the products designed to prevent infectious diseases to elementary schools in the cities of Inashiki and Ryugasaki in Ibaraki Prefecture, and donating funds to medical institutions in Kumamoto Prefecture, affected by the Heavy Rain Event of July 2020.The relief donations, totaling 37 million yen, partially comes from the prize money for the cancelled Senior Golf Tour, “FUJIFILM Senior Championship 2020” (originally scheduled for November 5 – 7 in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan).

  • The NPO “Single Mothers Forum” will receive funding for purchasing groceries and essential supplies to be delivered to single-parent families financially affected by the spread of COVID-19. As relief supplies, Fujifilm will donate its long-lasting disinfectant wipes “Hydro Ag+ Alcohol Cloth” in response to requests from the organization, as well as Fujifilm’s functional cosmetics “ASTALIFT”.
  • The NPO “Japan Kodomo Shokudo Support Center Musubie” will receive the Hydro Ag+ Alcohol Cloth, designed to prevent infectious diseases at Kodomo-Shokudo, and the instant cameras “instax” as a part of Fujifilm’s efforts to deliver the power and joy of photography and capture children’s smiles despite the hardships they are in.
  • Elementary schools in the cities of Inashiki and Ryugasaki in Ibaraki Prefecture, where the canceled “FUJIFILM Senior Championship 2020” was to be held, will receive the Hydro Ag+ Alcohol Cloth. It utilizes Fujifilm’s unique antibacterial technology of combining alcohol and silver ions to deliver long-lasting disinfecting effect, and will be used to help reduce the closures of classes due to the spread of infectious diseases. Medical institutions in Kumamoto Prefecture, affected by the Heavy Rain Event of July 2020, will receive relief funds via local medical associations.

Toshi Iida President and Managing Director of Fujifilm in Europe Interview

Amateur Photographer posted its interview of Toshi Iida that was recently promoted to President and Managing Director of Fujifilm in Europe today and they cover some interesting topics. You can read the full interview here or the summary below:

COVID-19

  • COVID-19 has reduced the amount of operating professional photographers
  • It’s Fujifilm’s job to help these photographers get back to work by providing a high level of support (note: Fujifilm is one of the few that didn’t stop providing service) and affordable prouducts
  • Global demand for cameras has dropped by 40% since April 2020 acording to CIPA
  • Fujifilm has been preforming significantly better than the industry thanks to the X-T4 and X100V
  • There is still room for innovative products
  • The demand for online printing has remained strong
  • Fujifilm as a whole is focused on helpiung to bring an end to the pandemic (which we have covered here)

The Future

  • The biggest challenge is to continue innovating in R&D
  • Users don’t buy sensors they buy experiences so Fujifilm doesn’t follow the same path as others
  • Innovative service is a part of inovative experiences
  • Fujifilm is a place where people can nurture creativity on a camer or smartphone
  • The Fujifilm House of Photography in London was an effort of keeping with their Wonder Photo Shops they wanted to create a playground for photographers

How is Being The Head of Europe Different

  • Europe is very diverse
  • Best sellers are pretty much the same between regions
  • X-T4, X-T3, X-T30 are all popular and the X100V has been a global best seller
  • GFX is the only thing that is different because it is almost exactly evenly split except in China
  • X-A sells well in asian countries
  • Globally Instax is one of the biggest brands
  • Now we see instax as the most thriving imaging product in Europe because last year sales doubled the next imaging devices acording to Gfk
  • APS-C is still clearly the best balanced sensor size for a system
  • Fujifilm is commited to APS-C
  • Fujifilm doesnt think there us a full format in digital
  • Mirrorless is great for rethinking things
  • GFX provides the best image quality without a high level of investment

Fujifilm S-X10, 10-24mm, and More

  • Well developed for people coming from DSLRs
  • Updating lenses requires a complete redesign from scratch sometimes and he can not talk about future products
  • When asked about third party lenses he only said that users have been heard
