7Artisans 25mm f/0.95 Reviewed

The 7Artisans 25mm f/0.95 is now available and apparently, they are calling their 0.95 series of lenses the firefly series. Damian Brown posted his review of this unique lens the other day and there is a summary of the review below or you can watch the video above.

  • A chunky metal lens with a metal cover
  • Focus moves in and out
  • 595g without caps which is a bit more than the specs on the website
  • Feels well built
  • 99.7mm in length so better for larger bodies
  • The minimum focus distance of 0.25m
  • Smooth focus ring and a clickless aperture
  • 52mm filter thread
  • About 37.5mm full-frame equivalent
  • 11 lenses in 9 groups
  • Not sure why a Fujifilm shooter would want a clickless aperture beyond being able to select fractional apertures
  • 0.95 works well for moody dark scenes and if you stop down the lens is more than capable
  • vignetting is heavy wide open and goes away around f/5.6
  • Character is similar to the 35mm and 50mm f/0.95
  • Color rendering is ok
  • Distortion isn’t a problem
  • Purple fringing is only noticeable at 0.95
  • The lens is almost a good macro lens
  • This lens really shines at night
  • Great for someone that likes to play with character and fast glass

DPRTV: Fujifilm X-T30II vs X-S10

DPRTV posted a Fujifilm X-T30II vs X-S10 comparison that tries to differentiate between the two cameras and which might be a better choice for you. Below is a summary of the above video:

  • The sticker on the battery door is the only way to tell the X-T30 and X-T30II apart
  • The LCD panel is also improved and the RAM
  • X-T30 does 18 shots at 8fps before slowing down and X-T30II does 23 shots
  • X-T30II At 5fps it goes from 23 shots to 46 shots
  • X-T30II has the new AF tracking system like the X-T4
  • X-T30II has Classic Neg and Eterna Bleach Bypass
  • F-log assist on X-T30II
  • X-T30II 1080p 240fps
  • Lots of minor upgrades bringing it up to the current standard
  • Fujifilm X-S10 is a departure from their current design strategy getting away from manual controls
  • Size and weight are similar but X-S10 has a bigger grip
  • Tech is basically parallel with the same EVF, but X-S10 rear LCD can fully articulate
  • X-T30II Buffer is improved over the X-S10 that matches the original X-T30 buffer
  • X-T30II still has a 2.5mm jack, but the X-S10 has a 3.5mm jack
  • X-S10 takes longer to overheat than the X-T30II
  • X-S10 has IBIS and X-T30II does not, which is great for photos and video
  • There is only a $100 difference between X-T30II and X-S10 with X-T30II being cheaper
  • If you prefer a traditional camera get the X-T30II and if you want DSLR style get the X-S10

FY2021 Q2: Fujifilm Financial Results – Instax and GFX100S Continue Performing Well

COVID-19 has certainly turned the world upside down, but it looks like Fujifilm is having a strong recovery from the pandemic according to its latest financial results. This isn’t really a surprise as others have seen a similar recovery, but it would be nice if we could get past the chip shortage so that cameras and lenses could be delivered in higher volumes.

Strong sales of instant photo systems and digital cameras boosted revenue by 30.2% year-over-year to ¥148.3 billion and operating income returned to the black year-over- year to ¥12.4 billion.

In the consumer imaging field, steady sales of instant photo systems and dry minilabs/ materials for retailers in the U.S. drove revenue higher. Sales of both instant photo systemfadevices and films fared well. The instax mini 40, launched in April 2021, and the instax mini Link smartphone printer have been well received in Japan and overseas markets.

In the professional imaging field, sales of digital cameras remained steady, including the FUJIFILM GFX100S, a mirrorless camera which has gained a high reputation worldwide for its superior image quality using a large format sensor despite its compact body. Sales of broadcast and cinema lenses, which had been hit by a decline in demand due to the COVID-19 pandemic, turned upward, contributing to higher revenue. The monitoring / measurement field, including long-range surveillance cameras and machine vision lenses, also achieved significantly higher revenue than last year.
