SHOTEN UMS Medium Format Mount Adapter Released

SHOTEN UMS series medium format lens compatible mount adapter released
Shoko Kobo Co., Ltd. will release the mount adapter for the SHOTEN UMS series on Thursday, August 18, 2022.

There are four types of compatible mounts: “Mamiya 645”, “Pentax 645”, “Pentax 67” and “Hasselblad V” mounts on the lens side, and “Sony E”, “Nikon Z”, “Canon RF”, “Fujifilm G” and “L” mounts on the camera side. 5 types, and we will start selling a total of 25 types of products including dedicated mount parts.

The UMS mount adapter is a product based on a new idea that allows you to replace the mount parts on the body side by dividing the main body into two parts.
By exchanging the mount parts on the adapter body side, it is possible to attach it to a camera with a different mount. You can make effective use of the equipment you have.

[feature]
  • By exchanging the mount parts, it can be attached to mirrorless machines of each manufacturer.
  • The intermediate mount (U mount) that connects the mount parts can be connected with a high sense of rigidity without rattling.
  • The interior of the adapter is matte coated to greatly reduce internal reflections.
  • Highly durable and rigid stainless steel mount parts are used on the lens side, enabling high-precision mounting.
  • With tripod socket (Arca-Swiss compatible standard)

How to replace mount parts

Tokina SZ 33mm f/1.2 Review and Additional Listing

Tokina SZ 33mm f/1.2: B&H Photo / Adorama

The Tokina SZ 33mm f/1.2 was announced a while ago, but it only recently became available at B&H Photo, but Amazon still doesn’t have a listing. Christopher Frost also posted his review, and below are his findings:

  • Solid lens that feels like you could hammer roofing tiles in with it
  • 605g
  • No weather sealing
  • Aperture ring is metal and turns smoothly but heavily
  • The focus ring turns smoothly and heavily with lots of precision
  • Some focus breathing
  • Metal screw on lens hood
  • 62mm threat on the front
  • One of the most solid lenses he has ever held
  • Very good sharpness even at f/1.2 with average contrast and a little color fringing, but soft in the corners due to the corners being out of focus so if you focus on the corners, it is very good
  • This lens has excellent sharpness, but the filed curvature requires you to stop down to f/8 to get it across the entire field
  • Some people find extreme field curvature beneficial, but Christopher Frost  does not agree outside of subject photography and portraiture
  • Very low barrel distortion
  • Very little vignetting
  • Stop down to f/2, and all vignetting is gone
  • Focus down to 50cm
  • Image quality close-up takes a huge hit, but is excellent by f/2.8
  • Lots of flaring and glaring
  • Chroma smearing in the dark is an issue in the dark until you stop down to f/2
  • Sun stars at f/11 but not great
  • Bokeh is on the smooth side of average
  • LoCA goes away by f/2.8
  • Lens has lots of potential and you will have to think about field portraiture, unless doing subject or portrait photography

DA: Viltrox 13mm f/1.4 Review – Viltrox’s Best Lens Yet

Viltrox 13mm f/1.4: B&H Photo / Amazon / Adorama

Viltrox has released some great lenses for X-Mount, and the Viltrox 13mm f/1.4 continues that trend. Below is a summary of Dustin Abbott’s review.

  • About 20mm f/1.4 full frame equivalent lens
  • One of the best lenses from Viltrox
  • They are doing better in areas that he criticized before
  • Very similar to other Viltrox lenses, but a little on the larger size
  • 74mm diameter and 90mm long
  • 420g, so not the lightest lens
  • Similar to the 85mm f/1.8 in that it feels full frame sized
  • 87mm front filter thread
  • Very nice metal lens hood
  • Feels like a premium lens, but it is missing weather sealing
  • Very nice focus and aperture ring
  • No AF/MF switch
  • USB-C connection in the mount to do firmware updates
  • 9 rounded aperture blades that give nice circular bokeh, but you won’t get bokeh often
  • 22cm close focus distance and 0.10x magnification
  • Feels more premium than many Fuji lenses
  • Sophisticated stepping focus motor
  • Very good confident focus pulls
  • Focus breathing is low
  • Tracks faces well
  • Low amount of distortion, so there isn’t much to correct beyond a little vignetting, which is removed with a +54
  • Great for interior since lines stay nice and straight
  • Not bad chromatic aberrations and a step up over previous Viltrox lenses
  • Very well-controlled lens for LoCA
  • Crisp results in the center of the lens and the mid-frame, which declines towards the edges wide open
  • The edges get a bit better at f/1.8 and even better at f/2, and contrast improves, but by f/2.8 the corners are pretty reasonable, with the center being crisp
  • The Fujifilm XF16mm and Viltrox 12mm compare well, with Fujifilm being better in some respects and Viltrox in others, but the Fujifilm gets better stopping down
  • If you look at an image globally at f/1.4 and f/5.6, the image looks pretty similar.
  • Very low amount of magnification due to unimpressive close focus distance
  • Viltrox colors aren’t as good as Fujifilm colors, in Dustin’s opinion
  • Not very flare resistant, but you can get a nice sunburst effect
  • Off the edge of the lens, there is some chroma
  • Very strong performer at its price point
  • The images look very good from this lens, but there are some issues for pixel peepers, but you really can’t complain for the price

Fujifilm Won Two 2022 EISA Awards

Fujifilm X-T30II:
B&H Photo / Amazon / Moment / Adorama

For photographers who’d like to buy a capable camera at an attractively low price, Fujifilm’s X-T30 II is a stand-out choice. It delivers the same great image quality as Fujifilm’s more expensive models, with particularly attractive JPEG colour rendition directly from the camera. The compact and lightweight metal body offers a good array of external manual controls. It also brings some welcome upgrades over the original X-T30, including a higher resolution screen, updated autofocus system, and separate settings and menus for stills and video shooting. Most importantly, it’s a pleasure to shoot with and delivers excellent results.

Fujinon XF 33mm f/1.4 R LM WR
B&H Photo / Amazon / Moment / Adorama

With this bright normal lens for its APS-C X-system, Fujifilm offers a lens with no real weak spots. Its bright aperture allows for super sharp photos and video in all lighting conditions, while digital in-camera processing corrects residual aberrations. A nine-blade aperture helps to deliver perfect bokeh, while the quick and silent linear autofocus motor and absence of focus breathing makes the lens just as suitable for video as it is for stills photography. Details like a locking manual aperture ring and comprehensive weather sealing combine to make the FUJINON XF 33mm F1.4 R LM WR a perfect standard lens.

Tamron 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di III-A VC VXD:
B&H Photo / Amazon / Adorama

This is a fantastic lens for users of Fujifilm and Sony APS-C mirrorless cameras who want to travel without a bag full of lenses. The wide zoom range, equivalent to 27-450mm in full-frame terms, gives the possibility to take photos and record movies in every kind of situation, from landscapes to distant details or wildlife. Furthermore, the effective ‘Vibration Compensation’ mechanism helps take sharp photos in low light conditions. With the minimum focus distance of 0.15m at the 18mm wide end and with high magnification (1:2), this lens is also very useful for close-up photography.
