Fujifilm meet up with Ricardo García Vilanova 2020 World Press Photo Awards Winner. Below is a summary of the interview
- WPPI is the most reputable photo contest in the world
- The media isn’t really interested in Iraq anymore
- Ricardo García Vilanova got involved in Iraq because the story was being ignored
- There are no tips to give about how to stay safe in a very dangerous situation like covering Iraq
- In a warzone everything is chaos
- Being lucky is very important
- Equipment is an essential tool and for Ricardo it is the X-T3
- X-T3 is amazing because it is little and fast
- Before he had a big camera and people would see him
- X-T3 is strong and waterproof (it’s not waterproof just resistant)
- 10-24mm is Ricardo’s favorite lens and the only one he uses
- His subjects tend to be very close
- If you’re 20 meters away you the people are distant and it is a different feeling
- If you shoot people wide they are close to you and it is a different experience
- He has an X-T3 in his bag and what looks like an X-T30 for if the X-T3 has issues
- The Photography industry is different now because everyone has phones with cameras on them
- Every person is a photographer in the world
- Before the difference between the professional and the amateur was clear but now not so much
- You don’t need a big camera with a lot of lenses to do a job like photojournalism
- All you need to do photojournalism is to be close
