DPRTV: Fujinon XF16-80mm f/4 R LM OIS WR Mini Review

DPRTV reviewed the Fujinon XF16-80mm f/4 R LM OIS WR and came away with mixed feelings. They do think it is a great hybrid and kit lens, but they have come across better zooms. Below is a summary of their findings.

  • 24-120mm in 35mm terms very versatile
  • Not much bigger than the 18-55mm
  • Feels nice
  • Manual Focus well dampened
  • Would like an IS switch
  • 80mm center is sharp, but the corners are a little soft even at f/8
  • 40mm the corners improved
  • Wide corners fall apart even at f/8
  • The center is sharp and consistent throughout the range
  • LOCA is well corrected
  • The 5 stop IBIS works as advertised
  • .5 second full sharpness and starts to fail at 1 second
  • The 18-80mm is very strong for video
  • Minimal breathing
  • Good focal range for video
  • This is an obvious choice for videographers
  • Awesome IS that works well in the dark
  • Bokeh pretty impressive, but onion rings are present
  • Great close focusing capability that lets you create very soft backgrounds
  • Not perfect optically, but a great kit lens
  • Great hybrid lens
