Fujifilm GFX 50S: Sync Speed No Longer an Issue

When the Fujifilm GFX 50S was announced many complained about the lack of a leaf shutter, and it’s relatively slow flash sync speed of 1/125 sec. This disappointment, lead to a back and forth among photographers of various skill levels and a lot of misinformation all in the pursuit of a solution. Early on it was discovered that the Fujifilm EF-X500 would support HSS on day one, but many photographers wanted studio strobes.

FujiAddict has been at the forefront of this discussion since day one, which is why I worked with B&H Photo and RoboSHOOT to get my hands on an affordable, high-quality lighting kit that could potentially give GFX owners reliable, portable, studio performance and HSS. I won’t bore you with how my equipment choices came together here, but RoboSHOOT’s interpreter is incredibly robust, which allowed me to easily use HSS with my Impact Venture TTL-600 and Nikon Transmitter reliably.

Now that RoboSHOOT firmware 2.1 is available to the public I have encountered some additional confusion from photographers, and I have even run into some that won’t believe that it works until they see proof. So this post is for those that are leery of HSS on the Fujifilm GFX 50S. I opened an album on my 500px page just for HSS photos and will be reviewing lighting systems as I gain access to them. So far I am very pleased with the Impact Venture TTL-600 and the photographer I collaborated with to create the above photos, Depot MSA said, “the light coming from them is very clean and the system reminds him of working with Profotos.” and if you like the model you can follow Dayna here.

So if you want to reproduce my results all you need is Impact Venture TTL-600 and Nikon Transmitter, 2nd Impact Venture TTL-600, RoboSHOOT MX-20, Fujifilm GFX 50SFujinon GF 120 f4 R LM OIS WR Macro, Fujinon GF 63mm F2.8 R WR and 2 Light stands (or you can have an assistant hold them since the come with handles).
