BigHeadTaco: Interviews Billy From The Fuji Guys

Big Head Taco scored a lengthy interview with Billy from the Fuji Guy that covers all the latest Fujifilm products. Not a lot of new information, but it’s interesting that Billy from Fujifilm is back tracking on the Fujifilm X-Pro2 never being able to do 4k due to heat related issues, since the X-T20 can do 4k without issue. It sound’s like they might add 4k via a firmware update in the future.

For the GFX Fujifilm will release a free program called Fujifilm X Acquire for tethering that will let you import your files into any RAW editor. SuperFine JPEG files are around 25MB, while RAW files are around 110MB and Lossless compressed RAW files are around 50MB. Fujifilm is also hopeful that CaptureOne will Support the GFX in the future. Fujifilm is also open to working with Metabones, which could lead to some amazing adapted possibilities. One more detail revealed is that the sensors refresh rate is 50fps, but the EVF can refresh at 100fps.

Below you can see the Patrick La Roque video, mentioned by Billy, that was filmed with the Fujifilm X-T20.

Fujifilm GFX 50S: Workshop and First Looks

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XaOd4swPe6g

Above we have our first look at the Fujifilm GFX mounted to bellows with the Fujifilm View Camera Adapter G. I am very interested in experimenting with 4×5 lenses on the GFX in the future, but I don’t have regular access to a studio at this time or the space at home to set one up. The minute that changes ill be buying lots of glass for the Fujifilm View Camera Adapter G. Unfortunately the workshop is in Japanese and youtube translate isn’t enabled on the video yet, but you can see various studio configurations.

Ivan Joshua Loh
Ivan posted a link to his Work & Play with GFX article in our Fujifilm GFX Owners Group the other day that not to be missed. He has some great product photography in his article along with some impressions. I look forward to more of his early impressions in the future.

The Fujifilm GFX 50S Events in NYC and Nice France

New York City Fujifilm GFX Launch event footage from Professor Foto, which is very quotable. Most notably when he compares the GFX to Hasselblad’s current medium format offerings, which he calls “laughably priced.” Nothing really new from the event, but this is the first footage I have found.

The image above isn’t entirely new, but I haven’t covered the comparison before so for completionist sake this is how the Fujifilm GFX 50S compares to the Fujifilm X-Pro2 in size.

More Polish First Impressions
Fotoblogia a write up of their european launch experiance along with some photos from a photos walk. They said the “Autofocus works amazingly quickly and the shutter has a small delay” which adds a little more detail about how the camera functions. You can read their full translated write up here. Their ship date is mid March, which is probable when unaccounted countries can expect to see the camera roll out. Lets hope our ship date doesn’t slip that far back.

Slovenian GFX Nice
ephoto has a fresh take on the recent European press event in Nice, which includes a break down of the different workshops that Fujifilm setup for the press to demo the camera. You can see the video from the workshop above, which the translator cuts out of the webpage. It looks like Fujifilm setup some great workshops for the press to experiment with the GFX and portraiture. You can read the full review here.

Fujifilm GFX Lens Adapters/Field Test/First Impressions

images courtesy of sina

It looks like the Chinese manufactures are hard at work making a variety of full frame lens adapters for the Fujifilm GFX system at the moment. Above you can see an older Leica Summilux and Zeiss Otus adapted to the GFX. Sina has images of more adapters and their results here, but if you want to read the translated site you can’t see the images.

First Impressions
Photolari gives an interesting account of the GFX 50S in his first impressions, but the biggest take away is probably in his video (which can be translated via youtube’s player). The GFX 50S has a very long blackout time compared to what many mirrorless shooters are used to. So you will have to adjust your shooting style to account for the blackout time. Also RAW files are 120MB and:

The lack of agility is – or was until recently – one of the problems of medium format cameras. Other models have already moved tab in this field, and the GFX 50s adds to this evolution. Always thinking in terms of medium format – we are not going to make a football match with it – the autofocus system is fast and accurate.”

Which is a point I have been making for a while. Medium format system are getting faster, but very few people have used a quick medium format system. You can read the full first impressions here.

Field Test
DSLRMagazine tested the GFX in the French Riviera shortly after the European launch event and while there aren’t a lot of new details they have some new samples here.

Fujifilm GFX 50S Russian Mini Review and More Sample Photos

Mini Review
Now that more journalists are getting their hands on the Fujifilm GFX 50S we are getting a lot more sample photos and opinions about the cameras system that are less colored by Fujifilm’s marketing department. The latest comes from a Russian live journal blog run by Elena Petrova.

In a nutshell, you get a camera with excellent color reproduction, detail and low noise. In difficult conditions, the autofocus little “podtuplivaet”, but it is a reasonable price to pay for a large sensor. Automatic metering and white balance works fine, even intracameral jpeg not want to somehow further edit. In my opinion, GFX has all the chances to make a revolution in the camera market and to become the founder of a new era in which photographers there are more and more chances to get everything at once.

You can read here full post here and she even has some samples to share.

Hasselblad X1D-50c vs Canon 5DS R
While looking for GFX news I also came across an interesting comparison that gives us an idea of how the GFX will compare to the Canon 5DS R. Fotopolis compared the Hasselblad X1D-50c against the Canon 5DS R and came to the conclusion that

As we can see, in terms of the same detail of the image supplied by the matrix Canon does not differ too much from what the offer has Hasselblad, although in the case of the matrix medium format, with full zooming pieces are however sharper. The greater the difference we see only above ISO 800. However, if someone is working only at the lowest sensitivities and it depends only on the resolution, Canon will be an alternative completely sufficient. Not to mention a much greater choice of lenses.

You can read the full review here starting with the comparison here if you’re interested.

Samples
Finally optyczne.pl uploaded another Fujifilm GFX album containing Fujinon GF 63mm f/2.8 R WR samples here.
