Fujifilm GFX 50S Roundup

So far all of the RAW processors I have tried for the Fujifilm GFX 50S have been pretty equal, but I’m curious if ON1’s Monday update might change my opinion. I have read a lot of good things about their RAW engine recently especially for X-Trans files.

VideoDSLR’s Fujifilm X-T2 Video Analysis

VideoDSLR created a comprehensive set of  Fujifilm X-T2 test videos that are worth checking out if you are a hardcore videographer. None of them have audio or dialog, but they give the best look yet at what the  Fujifilm X-T2 can product. It’s pretty incredible how far Fujifilm Video has come, but look for yourself above and continue below.

Fujifilm GFX 50S: Great For Professional and Casual Shooters

Engadget took the Fujifilm GFX 50S to SXSW and shot it casually everyday. Senior Editor Edgar Alvarez seems to really love the combo and has no real complaints about the camera as a casual shooter. The Fujifilm GFX 50S really does allow anyone to become a medium format photographer, but it will only shin in the hands of a professional.

GFX 50S Astrophotography – I completed uploading my astrophotography photos to the 500PX GFX50S gallery and shared them with the Fujifilm GFX Owners Group yesterday. I will write a post about some of the advantages/disadvantages of using the GFX for astro in the near future, but I’m dealing with comcastic issues at the moment.

Notification Regarding Iris Blades on The MK18-55mm T2.9

Dear Valued customers

Thank you for using Fujifilm products.

We have received feedback from a few customers that the iris blades did not move correctly when the iris ring was rotated.

As a result of our internal investigation, we found the potential risk that the MK18-55mm lens produced in a partial production lot, in rare cases, would cause the above problem.

Therefore, our technical staff will inspect your MK18-55mm lens with the following mentioned serial numbers free of charge. For more information, please contact your shop or dealer where you purchased the MK18-55mm lens to make arrangements to have your MK18-55mm lens sent for inspection.

We do apologize to any of our loyal customers that may be affected by this inconvenience. Please rest assured of Fujifilm’s absolute commitment to quality and service excellence.

  • 1. Shooting RAW in Bracketing and Advanced Filters
The update enables you to use the RAW format when shooting not only in AE Bracketing but also in other Bracketing modes (ISO, Dynamic Range, White Balance, Film Simulaitons) and also in Advanced Filter modes.

The update adds ISO125 and ISO160 to extended ISO levels available.

The update allows you to turn off the Command Dial’s function to adjust shutter speed by 1/3 steps in order to prevent unintended adjustments.
  • 5. Full-range ISO adjustments with the Command Dial (X-T2 only)
With the update, set the ISO “A” position to “Command” to adjust ISO sensitivity across the full range, including extended ISOs, with the Front Command Dial.

Fujifilm GFX 50S Dead Beauty, Adapted Glass, and Unboxing/AF

It’s taking longer than expected to upload my astrophotography files to 500px because of internet issues and the Fujifilm GFX 50S files being between 40-80MB. I hope to have everything uploaded by tomorrow so I can do a post about the experience, but in the mean time check out my GFX gallery here and the astrophotography gallery here.

Above Lewis Von John presents some more of his GFX land scape work and below an unboxing video with some AF tests for people still curious about how well the Fujifilm GFX’s AF system works. Most of the light reviews have been posted and now sites like The Last Word are diving into adapted lens tests and comparisons. If you like adapted glass there are a lot of active members in our Fujifilm GFX Owners Group adapting glass and sharing their experiences/photos.

Photographyblog – Hasselblad X1D Review “Unfortunately the second compact system camera with a medium-format sensor, the Fujifilm GFX, has followed hot on the heels of Hasselblad’s trail-blazer, which after a short initial test feels better-realised and more feature-rich than the X1D, although not as compact or well built. Watch out for our Fujifilm GFX review soon… ”
