Fujifilm GFX50S: Landscapes, Weddings, Adapted Glass, and Other Projects

Lewis Von John is back with his Sekonic light meter and Fujifilm GFX 50S. This time he’s shooting a seascape in Venice Beach, California. I have always found working with a light meter interesting and with my increased use of filters, I am going to start utilizing a Sekonic L-858D-U to save time. There is nothing quite like getting the shot 100% right the first time when doing long exposure landscapes.

Fujifilm GFX 50S: Used GFX Gear, Reviews, Adapted Glass and More

If you haven’t picked up a Fujifilm GF 63mm f/2.8 R WR yet for your GFX yet, then now might be a good time. B&H Photo has one used for 13% off at the moment. This is the only lens that really makes the Fujifilm GFX 50S a great walk around camera. If you’re interested in picking up other GFX stuff used today then you might want to keep track of the B&H Photo Used department, because they might add more throughout the day, since they tend to add products to the website in bulk.

Beyond savings, The Last Word has returned to testing adapted glass for the Fujifilm GFX. Apparently, he noticed some shutter shock while testing the Zeiss 250/5.6 Superachromat at high shutter speeds, which lead to shutter shock testing. Unsurprisingly his results showed that the Fujifilm GFX 50S suffers from  a minimal amount of shutter shock, which he deemed “unimportant.”

GFX 50S IN BEIJING by Andy King

GFX 50S IN BEIJING
Back in March I wrote an article on using 35mm lenses on the Fujifilm GFX 50S. Although the lens and camera setups worked extremely well, I didn’t think I would be able to purchase so suddenly after the launch. Lo and Behold, with help from Fujifilm Canada and Vistek, I was able to secure a GFX 50S the day before I left for Beijing.

There was just one problem. I didn’t order any lenses with the body. With two Fotodiox (Nikon G and Canon EF) adapters ordered a week before, I frantically tested the 35mm and vintage 645 lenses I had while packing.

In the end I decided to bring the least amount of lenses possible:
1. Carl Zeiss Otus 85mm f/1.4 for the Nikon mount (ZF). I specifically bought the ZF version for the aperture ring, otherwise the ZE version could only shoot at wide open with the dummy adapter
2. Canon EF 24mm f/3.5L TS-E II (could only shoot at f/3.5 because of the dummy adapter)
3. Pentax Super Takumar 35mm f/3.5 (M42 version and then adapted to EF)
4. Tokina AT-X 90mm f/2.5 Macro (Nikon mount) Read More »

Impact Venture TTL-600 Review

I consider myself primarily an available light photographer that dabbles in flash for creative purposes, but the release of the Fujifilm GFX 50S and E-FX500 caused me to seriously reconsider my preference for getting the best results from my equipment. Quality lighting makes a huge difference in image quality, and the GFX benefits from studio strobes more than any camera I have ever owned. If you’re going to invest Fujifilm GFX 50S money on a camera, you owe it to yourself to own at least one strobe capable of providing adequate illumination under any circumstances.

Fujifilm GFX 50S: The Worst Thing About The GFX, Lens Reviews, and Roundup

Bert Stephani published his review of the Fujifilm GFX50S and it is rather typical. The Fujifilm GFX has great image quality and is super sharp etc… which is something that just about every reviewer brings up. The less common thing he includes in his review is complaints about how the Fujifilm GFX strap attaches. In particular, he doesn’t like how they rattle when attached, how it can get twisted on one side, or how they can block the SD card door on the GFX. Hopefully a 3rd party will design a more compact clip in the future if the GFX market grows large enough to justify the R&D.
