Quick Review: Elinchrom Indirect Litemotiv Octa 190cm

Quick review: Elinchrom Indirect Litemotiv Octa 190cm
Markus tests the ‘extraordinary’ Indirect Litemotiv 190 from Elinchrom and adapts it for the Flashpoint Xplor 600 Pro.

If you already read my recent article on this site about cross brand adaptations, you know that the Elinchrom Zoom Spot 18–36° is one of my current favorite key lights.

In order to maximize my adaptation of these spots for Flashpoint XPLOR 1200 extension heads (Godox H1200) and the new AD600 PRO units, I made sure to add the small reflector that is a standard for all Elinchrom flash heads, to my adapters.

Initially, I combined the Phottix Elinchrom to Bowens adapter with the reflector from the Elinchrom Quadra adapter, by adding a custom, acrylic tube piece.

This solution proved to be not as durable as I hoped, and I since found a simpler solution. I now use the entire Quadra adapter, but added a Bowens low profile custom mount to the back of the Quadra adapter, and also eliminate the stand adapter piece entirely. This is by far more solid, and avoids struggling with the lesser Phottix adapter.

Elinchrom deserves much praise for keeping a theatrical follow spot in their line up, which they also sell at a very reasonable price. Both Broncolor and Profoto have sadly long discontinued their own versions of the theatrical zoom spots. Read More »

Fujifilm CP+ 2018 Interview: Fujifilm X-H1, Fujifilm X-H1S, Sensor Shift, Fujifilm X-T3, Firmware Updates and More

Aldedomedia gives us some interesting insight into how Fujifilm views the camera market at the moment and they try to get a statement about the Fujifilm X-T3 out of Fujifilm, but they will have to wait for Photokina. As we have said before the Fujifilm X-T3 is targeting cameras like the Sony a9 for AF performance and we have no doubt Fujifilm can pull it off. We only have the first hint at where Fujifilm is going, but more will follow as we get closer to Photokina 2018. The new processor and sensor that will be needed to pull off the desired level of performance will certainly start the next generation of Fujifilm cameras, while the X-H1 is the best of what we have today.

Many have criticized the Fujifilm X-H1 for using the X-Trans III instead of waiting for X-Trans IV to launch, but the Fujifilm X-H1 has been selling well. Some photographers wanted a Fujifilm GFX style body without the $6,500 price tag and now Fujifilm has one that will be upgraded alongside cameras like the X-T. Fujifilm’s ecosystem is unmatched by anyone outside of m43 at this time and it keeps getting better, so Fujifilm seems to be relying on their overall system at this time instead of just camera bodies to compete.

  • Users wanted a larger camera
  • It couldn’t have been smaller due to the IBIS system and it’s still smaller than equivalent DSLR’s
  • It sounds like they could add a high-resolution mode later that uses pixel shift like other cameras.
  • Fujifilm believes the Fujifilm system is more balanced than the Sony a7III
  • Fujifilm admits they need to improve their marketing and that Sony has great marketing.
  • X-H1 is a video/photography product, while X-T2 is more photo-centric
  • Some models will get some of the X-H1’s video capabilities, but there is no timeline yet.
  • Fujifilm does not plan to have a hardware update program like Ricoh/Pentax
  • X-H1 is 8H hardness, while the X-T2 is 6H hardness.
  • Heat dissipation on the X-H1 is 25% improved.
  • Fujifilm says the grip is how you get around battery limitations.
  • No plans for an X-H1S at this time.
  • Increasing resolution on future X-Trans sensors may not increase quality due to the design of the optics.
  • Fujifilm will improve AF in the future and coverage since it’s competitors are.
  • No plans to change the X-Trans 6×6 matrix.

Fujinon XC 15-45mm F3.5-5.6 OIS PZ Shipping Tomorrow and a Review

All levels of Fujinon lenses are pretty well regarded and the Fujinon XC 15-45mm F3.5-5.6 OIS PZ is no different. While the build quality of XC lenses is definitely lower than XF lenses the optical quality is still there and this lens even has 3 stops of OIS. I don’t know a lot of photographers shooting XC lenses, but this one certainly has a unique design that might be worth looking into for an X-E or small X-T camera like the X-T20.

Fujifilm GFX 50S New Features Guide Version 3.00

Fujifilm released a new features guide for GFX firmware 3.00, which you can download here.

Each time the shutter button is pressed, the camera takes a series of photos, varying focus with each shot. The number of shots, the amount focus changes with each shot, and the interval between shots can be selected using SHOOTING SETTING > FOCUS BKT.

I’m sure the new focus bracketing feature will be appreciated by many and I wonder how popular 35mm mode will become. It would be nice if there were performance gains while in the reduced sensor size mode.
