Nigel Danson was invited to give his opinion about the new Fujifilm GFX 50R in a recent DPReview video. Below are some highlights from the video:
- Ergonomics
- Leaking out the ISO dial was a mistake
- Shouldn’t have left out the 4-way pad
- It’s a big camera and Fujifilm should add buttons since the camera has space
- Multiply your focal length by 0.80 to get your effective focal length
- Handling
- Hasn’t had much luck shooting the camera handheld for landscapes
- It’s much easier to grab a camera like the Nikon Z7 to shoot a handheld landscape
- Without a doubt, the Fujifilm GFX50S beats the Nikon Z7 at image quality, but the Z7 is easier to shoot handheld.
- He really enjoys shooting with his eye on the left side of the camera
- Image Quality and More
- The best quality camera I have ever used
- Image quality is incredible right up to the edges
- The lenses are amazing
- The tonal quality of rocks is incredible and the transition of tonality throughout the sky is really good.
- Rock detail is amazing and stands out among other similar photos
- There is very little noise
- Why Don’t I Own One
- Price of the body
- Price of the lenses
- Nikon lenses are softer at the edges but the change in overall quality is not justifiable
- Significantly bigger than anything else and the lenses don’t help
- If you want uncompromised quality the GFX50R is the camera you get
- If you want to do video etc and want to take 2-3 bodies there are better options like the X-T3
- Summary
- Amazing Image Quality
- Joy to use
- The rangefinder on the left is great
- It’s bulky
- It’s expensive
