Fujifilm FujiColor Superia 110 is Coming Back!

Today in a joint press release with Fisher-Price Fujifilm announced that they will rerelease Fujifilm FujiColor Superia 110 film after discontinuing many other formats (1, 2, 3, 4). This marks the first time Fujifilm has brought a film product back to market and it is to support an anniversary camera developed by Fisher-Price and Kodak 35th years ago.

Fujifilm along with Fisher-Price Kodak undertook this project largely because the Fisher-Price 100 was many photographers first camera and they felt 35 years was an important milestone to celebrate. Much like the Brownie Box camera of previous generations the Fisher-Price Kodak 100 is iconic and it’s time to celebrate. In a separate statement the man behind the Fujifilm X100 and X series of cameras, Masasumi Imai, stated that he was happy to see the Fisher-Price 100 again as he had fond memories of the camera and Fujifilm FujiColor Superia 110 film.

Fujifilm and Fisher-Price Kodak hope the camera will inspire a new generation of photographers going forward as young hipsters that never really experienced the golden days of film have children. This demographic in particular has embraced Lomo photography and the headaches that come along with it and Fujifilm along with Fish-Price Kodak hope to help them share their joy of film with their children because film is not dead yet.

Fujifilm Japan Factory Tour

Pixel Village and GMax Studios were invited by Fujifilm for a tour of Japan, during which they visited Fujifilm Factory at Sendai, CP+ 2019 at Yokohama, Interviewed senior Fujifilm officials and Tested their yet to be launched camera X-T30. The video is filmed with a Fujifilm X-T3 and an X-T30. I only mention this because at the beginning of the video when they are traveling to the factory they pass a train at over 300km/hr and the image holds up well, which is impressive. Below are some points from after their arrival:

Fujifilm produces 70 GFX50R over an 8hr shift
The guests try to replace the leather on an X-H1 as quickly as an employee and fail miserably, she manages the replacement in 1m 50s.
There is also a look at the red badge lens assembly clean room
The guests then try to align a lens on their own
Labels are added at the end of the assembly, but during this shot, there is a blurry section of the room
They even got a tour of one of the clean rooms, but they couldn’t film during this tour so they discussed it when it was over
The people taking the tour said they saw world class stuff on their tour including robots putting the mount together
Fujifilm let them try cleaning a lens element during their tour
Fujifilm even listens to how the lens sounds during inspection
Fujifilm’s passion for excellence came across throughout the tour
At the end of the tour, Fujifilm has a feedback session that’s like a Q&A that could help them improve their quality, which the attendees compare to “Showing a light to the Sun”

Photons to Photos: Fujifilm GFX50S vs Panasonic S1R vs Sony a7RIII vs Nikon Z7

The Panasonic S1R has become the first Full Frame camera to surpass the max PDR of the Fujifilm GFX50S in Photons to Photos testing, which is surprising considering the Sony a7RIII and Nikon Z7 results. Especially since the S1R most likely uses the same sensor as the Z7 and D850. If you’re interested in manipulating the results above you can do so here.

Canon announced the Canon IVY CLIQ+ and CLIQ Instant Camera Printers the other day to compete with Fujifilm’s Instax Camera‘s and printers. Fujifilm Instax is one of Fujifilm’s most profitable products by far with some even say it keeps Fujifilm’s camera division going.
