Godox V1 vs Profoto A1: Only Get The Profoto If You Have A Lot Of Their Equipment

It sounds like the Godox V1 is a huge win against the Profoto A1

  • Both are hard speed lights
  • Both have 9 stop range, but Godox does 9.2 while the Profoto is a little more accurate
  • Both lose about 3 stops of power when doing HSS
  • Profoto has a nice transition, but it’s not soft
  • Godox has a smooth transition which leads to better light
  • Godox light pattern has 90%+ preference in their light pattern
  • Recycle time is about the same
  • Profoto can retain their recycle time vs Godox will go into thermal protection mode after about 30 shot
  • Godox can perform more full power flashes
  • The Profoto kills the battery while in standby so the Godox battery lasts a lot longer
  • The Profoto died after 90 min of standby and one flash in a test video they did
  • Both have very consistent color
  • Godox has a more blue color than the Profoto, but it’s more consistent
  • Godox V1 is a little more powerful at it’s max output, and both have the same low power, but the V1 is faster at lower power
  • Can’t make a determination about which is better built
  • The magnetic modifiers work great on both
  • Godox one-upped Profoto
  • The only argument for the Profoto over the Godox is that you have a lot of Profoto equipment

Fujifilm Film Update More Price Increases Coming June 1st

Fujifilm Financial Results For the Fiscal Year Ended March 31, 2019

In the Imaging Solutions segment, consolidated revenue amounted to ¥386.9 billion (up 1.0% from the previous fiscal year), due to a solid sales increase in all businesses.

Consolidated operating income amounted to ¥51.1 billion (down 8.4% from the previous fiscal year), due to such factors as advertising and promotion costs and R&D investments.

In the photo imaging business, revenue increased due to favorable sales, mainly in instant photo systems that enable users to enjoy on-the-spot printing of photos, such as the instax series and instax films. The global promotions featuring Taylor Swift as instax’s global partner contributed to strong sales of instant photo systems worldwide, especially in Europe and the U.S. In the high-value-added printing business, sales were strong for Wall Decor services that enable users to enjoy decorating their walls by displaying photos as stylish interior. In addition, the FUJIFILM PhotoBank, a cloud-based photo service, was announced to start this spring. The service offers a new lifestyle utilizing photos, enabling users to not only share photos and order printing, but also purchase goods that suit their interests, suggested by AI accodring to users’ preferences based on the photos saved.

In the electronic imaging field of the optical device and electronic imaging business, sales were strong for FUJIFILM X-T3, which has high-speed, high-precision auto focus function and high video function, and FUJIFILM X-T30, which has a small and light body with high performances, launched in March 2019. FUJIFILM GFX 50R, a medium format mirrorless digital camera, showed strong sales reflecting good reviews on its ultrahigh image quality incorporating a large sensor and its adoption of range finder style. As a result, overall revenue of mirrorless digital cameras increased from the previous fiscal year despite the downward trend in the digital camera market in the fiscal year 2018. The sales of interchangeable lenses also increased accordingly.

In the optical device field, sales increased steadily mainly for various industrial use lenses including vehicle-mounted lenses. In February 2019, Fujifilm announced its entry into the projection equipment market with FUJIFILM PROJECTOR Z5000, combining optical technologies of FUJINON Lenses. Fujifilm expands its business field and aims for further business growth.

  • In the photo imaging business, sales were strong for instant photo systems such as the instax series and instax films. Global promotions featuring Taylor Swift contributed to the sales increase mainly in Europe and the U.S.
  • The accumulated sales volume of the instax series totaled 10.02 million units in this fiscal year.
  • In the electronic imaging business, the sales of FUJIFILM X-T3 and FUJIFILM X-T30, launched in March 2019, contributed to the revenue. FUJIFILM GFX 50R, launched in November 2018, showed strong sales reflecting good reviews on its ultrahigh image quality incorporating a large sensor and its range finder style.
  • In the optical device business, sales remained solid for various industrial-use lenses such as vehicle- mounted lenses. In February 2019, the new entry into the projection equipment market was announced with the launch of FUJIFILM PROJECTOR Z5000, targeting further business growth by the expansion of business fields.

DPReview: Fujifilm X-T30 Review

The Fujifilm X-T30 was reviewed by DPR a few weeks ago and it won a gold award because it does almost everything that the Fujifilm X-T3 does. You can read the full review here or see part of the conclusion below.

DPReview comparisons and conclusion:

The X-T30’s closest competitor is the Sony a6400. The a6400’s biggest advantage over the X-T30 is its autofocus system: its ‘Real-time Tracking’ is as good as it gets: just point the camera at your subject and it follows. Its face/eye detection is far more reliable, and allows you to choose your subject with far more accuracy. The a6400 has a larger EVF and better battery life than the X-T30, but we find its handling to be much less engaging than the Fujifilm. The X-T30’s video is better, with no crop at 4K/30p and far less rolling shutter.

The Panasonic Lumix DC-G95/90 is an impressive beast, with in-body image stabilization (that works in conjunction with IS-equipped lenses), a large EVF and V-LogL support. The X-T30 wins in terms of autofocus, battery life and crop-less 4K video (here’s why that matters). The Fujifilm is also about $200 less costly when both cameras are equipped with their respective kit lenses.

We’ve covered this earlier, but are likely some folks trying to choose between the X-T30 and X-T3. The latter has a sturdier, weather-sealed body, better ergonomics, 4K/60p capture, 10-bit internal recording and a large, ultra-high res EVF. Unless you really need those features, save the $600 and get the X-T30 instead.

The Fujifilm X-T30 is an exceptional value for the money, offering excellent image quality, a (generally) well-designed body with plenty of direct controls, and an autofocus system that handles most situations with ease, with face detection being a weak point. Video is a real highlight, in terms of both quality and controls, and offers features previously found on more expensive cameras. All-in-all, it’s hard to go wrong with the X-T30, one of the best midrange cameras we’ve tested in a long time.

What we likeWhat we don’t
  • Superb out-of-camera JPEGs
  • Malleable Raw files
  • Excellent 4K video quality with no crop
  • Compact and well-built
  • Solid AF speeds and good subject tracking after setting adjustment
  • Tilting touchscreen LCD
  • Burst speeds up to 20 fps using electronic shutter
  • Support for F-Log and 10-bit 4:2:2 output
  • Settings for stills and video can be made independent of one another
  • Full set of Film Simulation modes, including Eterna
  • USB-C port can be used for data transfer, charging and headphones
  • Poor placement of Q.Menu and AF joystick*
  • More flexible LCD would’ve been nice for video use
  • Video autofocus subject tracking only works for faces
  • 10 minute limit for 4K capture
  • EVF a bit small
  • Face detection can lose and rediscover faces rapidly, making it hard to select the desired subject
  • No in-body image stabilization
  • External battery charger not included
