400MP Teslaquila With The Fujifilm GFX100: Updated

Finally got around to testing the multishot 400MP mode on my GFX100 and all I have to say is wow the detail is out of this world. Above is a 1242 x 1242 crop of Teslaquila which comes from the original 23,296 x 17,472 picture that you can download in full resolution from my Flickr account UPDATE I added 102MP comparison photos. I decided to only upload the JPEG for now because multishot mode seems to darken the exposure by about half a stop so I had to brighten it a little. I might upload some more in the future, but Flickr is the only website that will take a 400MP image that I use.

I photographed the Teslaquila bottle right out of the box and it is interesting to see dried cleaning fluid on the bottle in addition to all the little specks of dust and material that the bottle has on it out of the box. I do not plan to drink this bottle, but I have several Tesla collectibles that I might photograph at 400MP if people want to get a good look at them. Further, I am trying to find the limit of the usefulness of Fujifilm’s pixel shift mode which has been very sensitive. The above photo was taken in a lightbox with a Fujifilm GFX100 + GF110mm lens on an Oben CTT-1000 tripod with an RRS L-Plate at ground level indoors at f/11 and 1/15th second. Capture One 20 Holiday Savings With Capture One 21 Upgrade Included

Capture One has one of the best X-Trans demosaicing engines around and it has very good color reproduction. If you want to give it a try there has never been a better time since the Full version and Fujifilm version are on sale. The Full version will let you use any camera with Capture One, but they also sell a version that just supports Fujifilm cameras, which can save you some money. As a bonus, you will also get a free upgrade to Capture One 21 when it ships.

Fujifilm GFX100 400MP Multishot Mode

Kevin Mullins above posted multiple samples to his dropbox that you can download here. I tried the 400MP multishot mode with my GFX100, but I am yet to get results that I am comfortable sharing yet. The new multi-shot mode is extremely sensitive to even the smallest movement so all of my landscape attempts have failed thanks to the wind and the artifacts that combine the photos creates are very distracting. This mode seems to be more useful for product photography and architecture where there isn’t any vibration.

Below you can see another test of the GFX100’s new multishot mode as well as a video examining what pixel count has to offer using Hasselblad and Phase One cameras. I am looking forward to the wind dying down a little so I can produce some examples for the site, but until then you can check out Kevin Mullins video above and post.

Fujifilm X-S10 vs X-T3 For The $999 Win

The Fujifilm X-S10 has been called a mini X-T4 by many and for good reason, it is an incredible value that brings IBIS to lower end X series cameras, but how does it compare to the X-T4’s predecessor the X-T3 which is now at the same price point as the X-S10?

Image Quality – Tie
Identical if there is no vibration

Weather Sealing – X-T3
Fujifilm X-T3 since X-S10 doesn’t have weather sealing

Styling – Subjective
Similar but I personally prefer the X-T3 to X-S10

Ergonomics – X-T3 unless you must have a large grip
Similar, but the X-S10 might have an edge if you prefer a deeper grip, or the X-T3 might edge it out if the build quality is what you value, also the X-S10 doesn’t have a d-pad just a joystick and the X-T3 does so the X-T3 is best if you do not like to use the touch screen

Usability – X-T3
X-S10 is designed for one-hand use, but the X-T3 is a bit better spaced out with its retro dials, which I prefer

IBIS – X-S10
X-S10 is the only option here, but if you do not want IBIS X-T3 is the way to go

Full Auto Shooting – X-S10
Fujifilm X-S10 is designed for beginners, but X-T3 will help you learn photography and you can set everything to A if you want to shoot automatic

SD Card Backup – X-T3
Fujifilm X-T3 has two card slots, while the X-S10 only has one

Rear screen – X-T3 for photos and X-S10 for video
X-T3 flip-up screen is better for photography, but the X-S10 has a selfy screen

EVF – X-T3
X-T3 wins hands down since it is the same as the X-T4 viewfinder

Video – X-T3 for 4k60p and X-S10 for IBIS
X-T3 has 4k 60p, but X-S10 has IBIS that helps you keep your footage stable

Flash – X-S10
X-S10 has a pop-up flash, but the X-T3 does not

Size – X-S10
Fujifilm X-S10 wins

Overall
X-T3 wins 5 categories hands down while the X-S10 wins 4 and the other categories are a bit more subjective. I personally would pick the X-T3 as a more photographer that doesn’t do much video, but if I were buying for someone getting into photography or someone that might do more run and gun video work I would get them the X-S10, but if you have the money the X-T4 is the best of both worlds and it can’t be beaten.
