The Fujifilm X-E5 is now shipping everywhere so now is a good time to check out some of the new accessories for the X-E5 from SmallRig.

I personally recommend the half case and thumb grip because I own both from SmallRig for my Fujifilm X100VI, and they are great.

OL: Viltrox AF 56mm f/1.2 Pro Review – Excellent

Viltrox AF 56mm f/1.2 Pro: B&H Photo / Amazon

Opical limits posted its full review of the Viltrox AF 56mm f/1.2 Pro, which you can read in full here or check out the excerpt below. Viltrox has established a strong reputation over the years, and its pro lenses are among the best and most affordable options on the market.

Optically, the lens is excellent with a few caveats. The sharpness is generally very good to excellent. Lateral CAs are very low…  lack of auto-correction for image distortions and vignetting… both aspects are reasonably well managed, and removing/reducing this manually shouldn’t be a big deal.. bokeh is very pleasing in terms of background and out-of-focus highlight smoothness. Axial CAs can be visible in certain scenes..

Pro

  1. Sharp
  2. Superb build quality
  3. Snappy and precise AF
  4. Very pleasing bokeh

Cons

  1. Some LoCAs (axial CAs)
  2. Comparatively heavy
  3. No auto-correction (in X-mount)
  4. No de-clickable aperture ring (in X-mount)

New model in the SX series of integrated telephoto cameras

New model in the SX series of integrated telephoto cameras
Equipped with the brightest lens in the SX series, it achieves optical performance that captures subjects clearly even at night
It combines a 32x optical zoom with a focal length of 12.5mm to 400mm in a compact, lightweight body, making it suitable for portable operation.

FUJIFILM Corporation (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Yoshikazu Goto) has developed a new model in its SX Series of integrated telephoto cameras, combining a 32x optical zoom with a compact, lightweight body. This model is scheduled for release in early 2026. This latest telephoto camera in the SX Series features a 1/1.8-inch effective image size *1 , covering a wide focal length range from 12.5mm wide-angle to 400mm telephoto, all while boasting a compact, lightweight body measuring approximately 300mm in length and weighing approximately 3.9kg. Equipped with the series’ brightest F2.8 lens, it captures subjects clearly, even at night. In addition to traditional fixed-mounted applications such as border and port surveillance and infrastructure inspections, the camera is also suitable for a wide range of applications, including on-board use on vehicles and ships, which has become increasingly common in recent years, and as a portable, temporary surveillance camera for live events and construction sites. Fujitsu will exhibit the new model at DSEI UK, one of the world’s largest defense and security exhibitions, which will be held in London, UK from September 9th to 12th, 2025.

Long-distance cameras are widely used for monitoring distant locations such as borders, forests, airports, ports, and highways. Furthermore, due to the aging of social infrastructure and the resulting labor shortages for inspection work, their use for remote inspections is also increasing. Fujifilm has been marketing the SX Series of integrated long-distance cameras since 2019, leveraging its long-standing optical and image processing technologies. The lineup has now been expanded with the release of the FUJIFILM SX800, which features a 40x optical zoom covering focal lengths from 20mm to 800mm, and the FUJIFILM SX1600, which covers a wide angle of 40mm to 1600mm. The SX Series has been well-received for its high-speed, high-precision AF and vibration-reduction system, allowing it to instantly capture clear images of objects several kilometers away.

This newly developed model leverages the optical technology developed for 4K/8K broadcast and cinema camera lenses, featuring a newly developed F2.8 lens—the brightest in the SX Series. It captures subjects with clear, low-noise images even in dark environments, such as at night. Furthermore, by developing the lens and camera as a single unit, we optimized the size, achieving a 32x optical zoom covering a wide range from a 12.5mm wide angle to a 400mm telephoto lens, while maintaining a lightweight, compact body measuring approximately 300mm in length and weighing approximately 3.9kg. In addition to traditional fixed installations, this model offers flexible portability for applications such as mounting on ships and vehicles, which has become increasingly popular, as well as monitoring event venues, disaster and crime scenes, where fixed cameras are not possible.

We will continue to develop groundbreaking products that meet the needs of our customers and the market by leveraging the unique optical technology we have cultivated through the development of a wide range of lenses, including 4K/8K broadcast and cinema camera lenses, and the cutting-edge image processing technology used in our GFX and X Series digital cameras.

Newly developed 4K-compatible broadcast zoom lens “FUJINON UA22x4.8BERD”

Newly developed 4K-compatible broadcast zoom lens “FUJINON UA22x4.8BERD”
A compact and lightweight body measuring 252mm in length and weighing 2.2kg, it offers 4.8mm wide-angle shooting and 22x zoom.
Active in a variety of scenes, including news reporting, studio photography, and sports broadcasting

FUJIFILM Corporation (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Yoshikazu Goto) has developed the FUJINON UA22x4.8BERD (hereinafter “UA22x4.8”), a highly mobile and versatile 4K-compatible broadcast zoom lens that covers a wide range of focal lengths from wide-angle to telephoto. The UA22x4.8 is compatible with broadcast cameras equipped with 2/3-inch sensors, and boasts a 4.8mm wide-angle shooting and a high 22x magnification in a compact and lightweight body measuring approximately 252mm in length and weighing approximately 2.2kg. Its functionality makes it ideal for a variety of scenarios, from news coverage requiring mobility and studio shooting to sports broadcasts where a sense of realism is required. Fujifilm plans to release the UA22x4.8 as a new addition to its lineup of 4K-compatible broadcast zoom lenses in spring 2026. The UA22x4.8 will be exhibited as a reference model at IBC2025, the international broadcasting equipment exhibition to be held in Amsterdam, Netherlands, from September 12th to 15th, 2025.

In professional filming environments such as news reporting, studio photography, and sports broadcasts, there is steady demand for a versatile zoom lens that can cover a wide range of focal lengths from wide-angle to telephoto. In response to this need, Fujifilm released the FUJINON UA18x5.5BERD (hereinafter “UA18x5.5”), a broadcast zoom lens, in 2017. It has been well-received for its compact, lightweight design and versatile focal length coverage. The newly developed UA22x4.8 inherits the UA18x5.5’s distinctive features of compactness and a wide range of focal lengths, including wide-angle, while further enhancing its functionality and expressive power. By utilizing improved lens processing technology and achieving a design that combines robustness and lightness, the new lens achieves a compact, lightweight body weighing just 2.2 kg, while minimizing the weight and size increase compared to the previous UA18x5.5. This reduces the burden of long-term shooting when carrying the camera on your shoulder. Furthermore, while the UA18x5.5 has a focal length of 5.5mm to 100mm, the UA22x4.8 has a wider focal length range of 4.8mm to 106mm. The wider wide-angle range makes it suitable for capturing immersive scenes in small indoor spaces and sports events.

Over the years, we have been developing and providing broadcast lenses that meet the detailed needs of camera operators, and in 2015 we released the world’s first 4K-compatible broadcast lens. We also have a lineup of 8K-compatible broadcast lenses, and have been leading the way in improving video quality. We will continue to develop and provide high-performance lenses and accessories that support comfortable filming to meet the diversifying needs of video production sites. Read More »
