Godox AD600Pro II: B&H Photo / Amazon / Adorama

Superior Experience & Reliable Performance
The time has come for Godox to improve one of its most popular flashes by introducing the AD600Pro II All-in-One Outdoor Flash. Designed to enhance your workflow, the long-awaited successor to the AD600Pro provides one-tap sync functionality with the brand’s separately available X3 trigger. This means that synchronization between the devices is quickly achieved without complications. The AD600Pro II is a versatile tool compatible with several TTL systems including Canon, Nikon, Sony, FUJIFILM, Olympus, Panasonic, Pentax, and Leica. Keeping some characteristics of its previous version, such as 600Ws and 0.01-0.9 sec recycling time, the AD600Pro II offers flash durations from 1/220 to 1/11,760 sec, a wider output range from 1/1 to 1/512, and a clear, optimized TFT color screen for intuitive onboard control. One of the upgrades of this second version is the addition of a bi-color LED modeling light that can be used to help aid composition or as an alternative light source. Read More »

DPR: Tamron Interview – Tamron Has a Clear Vision and Believes The Market Has Bottomed Out

DPR sat down for an interview with Tamron. Below is a summary of the interview and you can read the full interview here.

  • Tamron is a small company and that is an advantage when creating unique lens designs
  • Camera sales were 101% of what they were the year before and 104% of the value so Tamron believes there is a positive outlook
  • Lens sales were 99% of last year and 107% increase in value so Tamron thinks we have hit the bottom of the market
  • Tamron’s lineup has been doing well thanks to Sony-E mount and expanding into Fujifilm X mount and Nikon Z mount
  • Tamron has released 5 products a year without delay and every new model has sold well
  • The market is going to be driven by hybrid camera photographers of higher than average photography and videography skills
  • Some segments might need more attention than others
  • Tamron believes it has neglected entry-level users and it hopes to better address that market with good cost in relationship to performance
  • Nonstandard focal length zoom lenses have performed well for Tamron because they offer trade-offs that are different from mainstream designs like being lighter and more compact
  • More than half of Tamron’s mirrorless lenses are unique designs
  • Tamron being small enhances communication within the company
  • The first generation of the 28-75mm f/2.8 was a stand-out lens for Tamron that was controversial at first but people ended up liking it
  • Misawa is excited about technology in photography like AI autofocus and global shutter
  • Tamron is using AI to improve vibration compensation when shooting video which users are likely unaware of
  • Tamron understands why photographers might not want software to correct an imperfect image, but it is done to achieve a specific product vision
  • Tamron focuses on compact lightweight designs, but they would make more optically perfect glass if they targeted users that prefer optical performance over all else
  • It is possible to achieve very high optical quality at a reasonable price when using technology, but there is also a human element
  • It is also important to not rely too much on technology otherwise in house knowledge that has been accumulated over the years could be forgotten

Tamron lenses can be purchased from B&H Photo and Amazon.

Viltrox Large Aperture Lens Patent Found

Viltrox released a roadmap a while ago with a Viltrox AF 135mm f/1.8 LAB that this patent could represent.

overview

  • Application publication number: CN118330863A
  • Application Announcement Date: 2024.07.12
  • Application date: June 12, 2024
  • Applicant: Shenzhen Leijing Photovoltaic Technology Co., Ltd.
  • [0002]
With the development of the photography industry, a large-aperture photographic lens can effectively increase the shutter speed because of the bright image, and is also suitable for night photography.
  • At the same time, the large aperture lens can provide a good background defocus effect due to the shallow depth of field, which can highlight the subject and capture the subject.
  • This effect enhances the subject and allows for more artistic photographs, making this lens an increasingly popular choice in the photography industry.
  • [0003]
However, although there are large aperture lens products in the existing market, each has some limiting characteristics. Some of these lenses are small and portable, but their image quality is relatively poor, making it difficult to meet the needs of modern photographers who demand high image quality.
  • Modern photographers demand high quality photography. Some other lenses have larger apertures, higher sharpness and lower dispersion, which can provide excellent image results.
  • [0005]
The present invention provides a large-aperture autofocus photographic lens, which aims to solve the problems of existing large-aperture photographic lenses, such as large volume, slow focusing speed and unsatisfactory imaging effect.
  • It is possible to achieve a fast and stable focusing process while maintaining a large aperture and high image quality, and to simplify design and manufacturing.
