iFixit: Fix Your Fujifilm Camera Yourself

X100T dissembled

I first covered iFixit’s Fujifilm disassembly guides seven years ago here, and the selection of disassembly guides has grown some since then, but not as much as I hoped for this invaluable service. iFixit has always been a great resource for technically minded individuals, and they now have a Q&A section on their site that you can use to get answers about how to repair your camera. Maybe you have questions or maybe you have answers, but these kinds of tools matter, and if you are a fan of right to repair you should check out the Q&A section on iFixit’s site to see if you can help or if someone on there can help you.

Voigtlander Nokton 23mm f/1.2 Disassembled

Voigtlander Nokton 23mm f/1.2 ASPH: B&H Photo / Amazon

The Voigtlander Nokton 23mm f/1.2 is a great manual focus lens for X-mount with electronic contacts  that transmit lens data to the camera and yukosteel posted a tear down that you can view here or check out the conclusion below:

I’m very impressed by the mechanics and reliable design of electronics in this Voigtlander 23mm F1.2 Nokton lens. The precise way focusing distance information is collected is one of huge benefits of true manual focusing Voigtlander lens comparing to focus-by-wire most Fujinon lens. All parts are made from metal and precisely machined up to highest Cosina quality standards similar to Leica M mount lenses. For sure this lens can outlast any Fujinon lens with intense use, because it can be effectively operating fully mechanically even if its electronics breaks, while Fujinons are completely dead lens if electronics fails there.

Regarding the optical rendering of Voigtlander 23mm F1.2 – it’s a area of discussion for another articles, and there are tons of them already. I can only add that personally it’s a great experience shooting with this lens and the IQ is high enough to often grabbing this lens for shooting with X-Pro3 instead of using X100V camera.

CineD NAB Best of Show Awards 2023: frame.io & FUJIFILM Recognized

CineD has  its own best-of-show awards for NAB, and this year Fujifilm was one of the winners for their implementation of frame.io, which is an exciting new technology for working professionals that allows for rapid image and video delivery to the cloud. CineD used the technology during NAB and they plan to make a mini-documentary about how it all worked. You can read CineD’s full list of award recipients here or you can check out the excerpt below:

frame.io & FUJIFILM for their implementation of Camera to Cloud directly in camera: CineD NAB 2023 Best of Show recipients
This really is a joint award for Adobe’s frame.io and FUJIFILM on the successful implementation of their camera-to-cloud technology in some of FUJIFILM’s latest cameras. Using the grip for the X-H2 and X-H2S, the cameras upload proxies to frame.io’s cloud while you’re still shooting. We used the system here at the NAB show floor for our show coverage, thanks to the support of FUJIFILM’s WiFi infrastructure that was specifically set up for this purpose. While there were hiccups due to WiFi congestion – a typical problem on a show floor of this size – the system itself worked perfectly. Stay tuned, as we are working on a mini-documentary about the process and how we worked here at NAB. In the meantime, we decided that the collaboration between FUJIFILM and frame.io and how this is implemented deserves an award. Congratulations to FUJIFILM and Adobe/frame.io!

New 7Artisans Photoelectric Autofocus Adapter

7Artisans released a Photoelectric Autofocus Adapter that can now be ordered from B&H Photo.

This Autofocus Adapter from 7artisans Photoelectric allows a Canon EF or EF-S-mount lens to be used on a FUJIFILM X-mount camera. Gold-plated copper electronics provide enhanced performance and support phase detection and contrast detection autofocus. The adapter also supports image stabilization and enables swift aperture control. If an attached lens is capable of generating Exif metadata, this adapter is designed to transfer that information so that it can be saved with image files generated by the lens and camera. Additionally, the adapter includes a tripod foot with 1/4″-20 threads to reduce stress on the camera mount when placed on a tripod.

  • Supports phase detection and contrast detection autofocus
  • Supports eye AF real-time tracking
  • Enables swift aperture control
  • Transfers lens Exif metadata to camera
  • Gold-plated copper electronics for enhanced performance
  • Lens release button and locking mechanism
  • Includes tripod foot with 1/4″-20 threads
