Fujifilm GFX 50S ePhotozine Overall Camera of 2017 and Fujifilm X-T20 is DSLR-Style Mirrorless Camera of 2017

This years picks for camera of the year across a variety of blogs/vlogs has largely been political with many wanting to congratulate Nikon for DSLR’s last hurrah, but ePhotozine had the courage to pick the Fujifilm GFX 50S as their camera of the year for 2017. Honestly, I would have a hard time picking between the Fujifilm GFX 50S and Sony a7RIII, which I have been using a lot lately, but the D850 wouldn’t be in the running for me even though it is the best DSLR yet.

The Sony a7RII and Fujifilm GFX 50S are fantastic and are the beginning of things to come in 2018, because the level the a7RIII is able to perform at without having a stacked sensor like the Sony a9 means that there is still a lot of room for Fujifilm to improve the X-H1 and X-T3. If Sony doesn’t share their stacked sensor technology with Fujifilm in 2018 then the Fujifilm X-T3 and X-H1 could still perform at Sony a9 levels, because the Sony a7RIII performs closely enough to the a9 to negate the need for the a9 for most.

The Fujifilm X-T20 also won best DSLR-Style Mirrorless Camera. The Fujifilm X-T20 has actually been on a few short lists for camera of the year since it performs almost as well as the Fujifilm X-T2 for a few hundred fewer dollars and in a smaller package.
