Comparometer Now Includes Fujifilm GFX

Image Resource’s Comparometer now includes the Fujifilm GFX50S, which is in addition to yesterdays post about their GFX vs Pentax645, in which they say the GFX has “the best lab images we’ve ever seen”, but their more accurate statement comes from their overview “Based on this initial First Shots assessment, the Fuji GFX is simply stunning, both at low and high ISOs. This camera produces the best lab shots we’ve ever come across. Detail is fantastic, and high ISO performance is excellent.”

The Fujifilm GFX 50S certainly does well at base ISO in all of their tests, but it does begin to fall behind around 12,800 ISO in their samples. The Sony a7RII is quite a monster, but the Fujifilm GFX50S is a different kind of camera. It’s good to see it holds it’s own, but I doubt many will shoot it this high on a regular bases. I prepared some additional crops, but they didn’t look quite right because of the slight difference in resolution. Maybe when Lightroom support is available ill do another crop comparison like the one above with RAW files or you can spend your weekend playing with the Imaging Resource Comparometer yourself and share your results in our Fujifilm GFX Owners Group.

1.0 beta 3 – March 3, 2017 (Maintenance Release)

  • New Features:
    • Now supports macOS 10.7 or later.
    • Support has been added for the Fujifilm GFX 50S, X-T20 and X100F models.
    • A new option has been added to the DNG settings panel to preserve the original RAF file date in the processed DNG file.
  • Improvements:
    • Eliminated all use of Intel supplemental SSE3 (SSSE3 or SSE3+) instructions. Only a couple of these instructions were used previously and this should allow for a wider range of supported processors. Early versions of the Intel Atom, AMD Phenom II and AMD Athlon II processors should now all be supported. Should now be compatible with Intel “Prescott” or later generations and AMD Athlon 64 rev E or later processors.
    • Added support for per camera body calibration metadata which should now give identical white balance number values in Lightroom for the DNG and the original RAF. Lightroom white balance adjustments now should also match up much more closely between the DNG and RAF when making adjustments in Lightroom.
    • Minor adjustments to the RAW (demosaic) processing for 24MP X-Trans models should reduce the appearance of some digital artifacts, especially when using higher levels of sharpening during DNG conversion or in later processing stages.
    • Initially, by default the main window is now opened with the settings adjustment panel expanded. This should make it more clear to new users that these are adjustments available. The expanded or compact state will still be remembered across application launches so if you prefer it closed it will remain closed on future launches.
  • Bug Fixes:
    • Fixed an issue with handling of automatic lens corrections metadata for chromatic aberration.
    • The open with application after save functionality is now working correctly.
    • Better compatibility in the Log window for some international character sets.
    • The main window size should now take into account changes to the default Windows font size or Aero styles that may impact the height of the menu bar and/or change the size of window borders which could cause the Show Settings button to not show properly or be clipped off the bottom of the main window in some cases.

Cambo ACTUS-GFX For Fujifilm GFX50S Now Available

The ACTUS-GFX is a technical camera platform that enables GFX-50s users to apply movement, swing, tilt, rise and fall capturing the detail required when shooting in or out of the studio. The medium format 33mm x 44mm sensor captures a wider area than current full size DSLR systems.

“Modularity is the keyword – the systems components may be separated and recombined’”

The ACTUS-GFX can be used in combination with the GFX-50s and the full range of Actar lenses 24mm, 60mm, 80mm, 90mm and 120mm Macro. But it doesn’t stop there as there are also lens plates available for Hasselblad, Mamiya, Pentax, Rodenstock and Schneider.

Lenses will work without a built-in shutter, the GFX50s camera shutter operates when the electric lens is detached, enabling the camera body to be used with the ACTUS-GFX. Read More »

Fuji Guys: Fujifilm GFX 50S Top Features and Other GFX Videos From Today

Fuji Guys Top Features video for those that don’t have time for the manual or learn better from videos.

First Unboxing Videos
The first video is very to the point, but the second is long and shows everything including all of the lenses. It even shows the size of the GFX compared to a Leica SL, which makes the GFX look kind of small.

GFX/XT-20/X100F Impressions Video

Zed attended a Fujifilm event and here is a summery of his impressions.

  • The GFX lenses are pretty big.
  • He didn’t expect the mount to be so big.
  • The lenses feel well built and the manual focus rings feel good, but have a rubbery feel and are made out of metal.
  • The camera feels at home like a bigger X-T2.
  • AF felt kind of slow, but he thinks it was because the environment was dim.
  • The camera was final production firmware.
  • The touch AF worked well, but was a little slow and didn’t work in the menus, which they should add.
  • The camera is pretty heavy with the 120mm lens, but feels nice in your hands.
  • It feels like a Canon 5D Mark III
