Fujifilm GFX 50S vs Hasselblad X1D-50c: The Hasselblad Gets in The Way and Roundup

Michaels Camera Video & Digital published their roundup/photo review video (warning low resolution and mono audio) and even thought they weren’t familour with the Fujifilm GFX 50S they said the Hasselblad got in their way taking pictures, while the GFX allowed them to get work done. The shoot was extremely impromptu and they even reset the camera so the GFX files were JPEGs, because they confused some settings on the GFX with the strobes they were using. You can watch the origional videos here.

It seems lots of photographer that are used to opitical view finders have a hard time adjusting to EVF and strobs. I set all my Fujifilm cameras to toggle exposure preview on/off with the front button, which makes it very easy to shoot with/without strobes quickly.

In Brief

  • Fujifilm doesn’t get in your way.
  • Fujifilm could place the playback button better.
  • The Hasselbad took their favorite picture.
  • Both cameras can use HC lenses

Capture One 10.1 Continues to Improve X-Trans Support

Sadly Capture One still doesn’t support the Fujifilm GFX yet, but at least they continue to improve their X-Trans support. Below you can see a list of the improvements that will most benefit Fujifilm fans and you can see the full what’s new here. There is also a what’s new summary available here along with a 10% discount code if you are interested in purchasing a copy.

New Camera Support

  • Fujifilm X-T20
  • Fujifilm X-A10
  • Fujifilm XQ2

Support for Fuji compressed format
Yes, it’s here – Capture One 10.1 finally supports Fuji Compressed RAW files.

X-trans pipeline re-design
What? Another great news for Fuji photographers? With point one release, Capture One 10 delivers support for LCC, Chromatic Aberration Analysis, and Purple Fringing tools for X-trans type sensors Fuji cameras. OpenCL is now also supported by X-trans files, that would significantly increase overall processing speed.

Fujifilm GFX50S: Savings, Cambo Actus GFX Comparison, Impressions and Images

Fauxtaku (Nathan) released another GFX video in our Fujifilm GFX Owners group earlier today comparing the Linhof M679cs and Cambo Actus GFX for focus speed. This is only a best case scenario, which he plans to further expand later, but the Cambo Actus GFX will certainly save you some time under these conditions. You can view Fauxtaku’s earlier videos here if you are interested.

Savings
If you are interested in saving a little money on the Fujifilm GFX system there is still a used 10/10 Fujinon 63mm available at B&H Photo, which is worth picking up if you do not have one already. Used lenses are a pretty safe purchase compared to bodies.

Fujifilm GFX 50S Stories, Capture One, and Coverage

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jz8bGiqOpsk

It always surprises me the variety of people that start covering a camera system without making themselves familour with it first. Eric Kim’s “Initial Impressions” video is a perfect example of this kind of coverage and you can find it below. Lots of photographers have mistaken beliefs about digital medium format stuck in their head and cameras like the Fujifilm GFX 50S are here to fix the mainstream beliefs.

Actually if photographers were really lusting over medium format, cameras like the Leica S corrected a lot of the issues with digital medium format years ago, but it came at a very high price. The Leica S was the first digital medium format camera with decent high ISO performance and fast autofocus. From the start it was quite the camera and the only reason I don’t own one today is because Lecia continues to let me down when they update their cameras. They simply continue to fail to secure the latests and greatest sensors, which I find unaccepable for such an expensive camera. Their is nothing quite like shooting a M or S, but the 50MP Sony sensor bests Leica’s 37.5MP sensor easily.
